| Dec 12 12:27:00 | As Cancer Grows | Cool. I really liked the "The King is Dead!" picture, that was funny! That said, even though the game wasn't hard, the occasional severe lag made it frustrating. And I'm not entirely sure how it fits the "one room" theme, as it seems like the landscape you play in consists of multiple rooms. Unless you meant them all to be the same room since there are no doors? :P

Anyhow, I also like how all Science, Philosophy, and Religion are presented as all being essentially the same as each other, especially since they all have the bottom line of "slay everyone!". Nice first entry! | |
| Dec 12 12:48:00 | 21m 00s | Studio Castle | Nice, I like the use of the theme here! I was a little confused about what to do at first, but as soon as I pressed the first button I got it. I also liked the foreshadowing of the pictures on the wall. The "ding" and "bung" sound effects for hitting crystals and pushing buttons were a nice detail.

However! I think there's one thing that could be improved from a game design perspective: there isn't a clear distinction between buttons and crystals. I think the game would have been even more easily understood if, for example, a button always advanced to the next level while a crystal always was a subordinate goal.

Also, what was the deal with that guy you had to talk to? That level felt a bit pointless :P

One other thing: the controls are a tiny bit laggy. It's not a big deal as nothing in the game is reaction-based, but it was a little annoying.

Nice game! |
| Dec 12 12:59:00 | 11m 00s | IG/IRL | Haha, nice. This is a cool concept, and it forced some self-reflection :P I like how the phone's audio lines up with the song, and I also liked the "neeneemeemnee" sound of someone telling the guy to stop playing.

But all that said...the game was very laggy! At first it was just a little slow, but by the time I had 35 points I was waiting and waiting for each next frame. It kind of killed the game for me. Was there more, or was it just infinite play? |
| Dec 12 17:55:00 | 4h 56m | Snake: The Gathering | I got it to work pretty easily -- thank you for making it a simple .JAR file!

I had trouble playing it, though. The controls were very unresponsive and the window was too big to fit on the screen, so when food appeared along the bottom I had to try to get it blindly. I never got to the point with "all 5 gathered snakes", but if I understand you correctly, that sounds like a cool idea.

I look forward to your entry in LD38! |
| Dec 12 20:46:00 | 2h 51m | Broken Breakout? | Neat idea! But, I found the physics of the ball kind of annoying. I would have liked if (1) the walls were frictionless, so I can slide the ball around on the floor, and (2) the ball would stick to the ground while I was moving the room upward, and only fly off when I stopped the room (which is how it would work IRL).

But, I liked the sound effects, and the concept was very well introduced -- I was never confused about what to do! |
| Dec 13 22:02:00 | 25h 16m | rotomanor | Nice job! I love the music here -- did you have a dedicated musician? Either way, very nice!

I think the level design could use some work, however. For one thing, I had a lot of trouble understanding why a certain lever would turn the world left or right, and for another, I had a lot of difficulty navigating around the mansion. Plus, I would often re-spawn after touching a bat, only to find myself trapped in the first room because of the way I was facing when I died. That was very frustrating after solving two or three puzzles by trial and error. Perhaps an introduction level, as TheMightyTeam suggests, would be useful? Or something visual about the levers to indicate whether pulling it will turn left or right?

But, I liked the graphics and story! I am definitely not complaining about being left in the dark about what's going on -- that was a good mystery :) |
| Dec 13 22:18:00 | 16m 00s | One Room | Hmm, I had a different experience than mrhill. The game was almost unplayably laggy for me (but I did get two moths once). Sometimes a frame would render partway off the screen, and starting on a ghost did feel unfair to me too.

But there were parts I liked! The graphics were cute, and although the music wasn't original, it really fit the mood of "bat friend comes over to help but the house is full of ghosts"...if that makes any sense :P I wish you had included ratings for graphics! |
| Dec 15 19:51:00 | 45h 33m | Room Rescue | >>> I have no idea if the Mac and Linux ones work if you have a console they might.

Just so you know, the Linux one will NOT work as you can't run a .exe on Linux without special software. |
| Dec 15 20:20:00 | 29m 00s | Grounded | I also couldn't run the game because the "web" link is just a download link to a .zip with a .exe inside. I recommend changing that to a "Windows" link. |
| Dec 15 20:30:00 | 10m 00s | (One Room) the Hunt :D | Congrats on your first Ludum Dare! This is a really solid first game. Here are some thoughts, in no particular order:

+ The collision detection is a little off -- sometimes it would give me a square even if I wasn't quite touching it yet, or not give it to me even when I was touching it.
+ I like the colors you chose to use. The graphics are very simple, but the colors still give a good indication of what is what.
+ A little BG audio would go a long way here...even simple little loop would make the game a lot more engaging. To see what I mean, try playing without the "pick up item" sound effect, then add it back in and see how much it does for the game :)
+ I like how the squares seem to move around randomly, like they have minds of their own. That made the game different each time!
+ I was a little confused about the controls at first. I might have put something like "Use arrow keys to move" right under the "Collect the red rectangles" dialog at the beginning.
+ The controls were very smooth! A lot of games on here lagged for me, but yours was fine.

Again, nice job! I can't wait to see how much you've improved for next time :) |
| Dec 15 20:42:00 | 12m 00s | Gymmy Boy | Linux link is also 404. |
| Dec 16 20:23:00 | 23h 41m | Cocoa Catastrophe | Haha, I like this! The Santa faces were really funny. One complaint I have is that for some reason I have to middle-click in order to use the buttons. Is that intentional? Also, it took me a minute to figure out that the feedback scene was over and I had to click "return". Still, the music wasn't that bad -- it was a short game, so although it was repetitive, it wasn't annoying.

Nice! |
| Dec 16 20:36:00 | 13m 00s | Cockroach Reaction | Cool idea! I really liked the tic-tac-toe-esque gameplay here, and the fact that I'm playing against the computer makes it even cooler. Although, I wish it would pause for a second or two when it's the computer's turn: I didn't know what was going on at first, and seeing the "Cockroach's Turn" text would have helped.

Can I ask what the AI is here? Does it have a strategy or just play randomly?

Also, side note: the game window does not fit entirely on my screen as it is too tall, so I didn't see the "2 in the corner, 3 on the edge" thing at first, and I got a little confused while I was playing.

Nice game! I look forward to playing what you make next time :) |
| Dec 16 20:46:00 | 10m 00s | The Murder | Running Linux and I couldn't play because of a NullPointerException (the same one p1x3lruckus got). I would guess that you are trying to use some font that isn't installed by default on Linux of Mac OS. If you want to change the font to something more default (like Times New Roman or whatever) I'd be happy to come back and try again.

Sorry! |
| Dec 16 20:50:00 | 4m 00s | Welcome Back | "You butt looks as good as ever." Haha :)

But in all seriousness, I think this game was a little too hard. There didn't seem to be much indication as to which item I should use one what, and one mistake meant a restart. I think the restarting is fair, but maybe only from a certain checkpoint? Then again, I wanted checkpoints in my game too, but 48 hours pass quickly... ;) |
| Dec 17 13:40:00 | 16h 50m | One RestRoom, Please!!! | Haha, nice. I like how the camera zooms in and out depending on your speed. But the first few times, I never found the restroom because the sign wasn't clear enough (or because I never got to it -- that timer is strict!)

The music was all right, but it didn't really match the mood. However, I really liked the horn honking :) |
| Dec 17 13:52:00 | 12m 00s | Tim in Time | Nice. I really wasn't expecting that I'd shoot somebody, that was a nice touch, especially since the music stopped right afterward. I think the music was nice, but not really fitting to the overall mood of the game.

From a game design perspective, I think the controls would be easier if you combined interact/advance/jump all into one control: you never need two at the same time, and it's confusing to remember which is which, especially since so many of these LD games have simple controls with Z or X to jump :D |
| Dec 17 14:26:00 | 34m 00s | Little Machine | Cute! I like the little chomping sound he makes when you feed him. That said, I partly agree with others in that I think the pace is too slow. However, I don't think it should be fast-slow-fast-slow-fast-slow as cynicalmonkey suggests; I think a slow take-off is appropriate as long as it isn't frustratingly slow (see "A Dark Room" for an example of what I consider good pacing in this genre).

Some notes on the details:
+ The robot runs into generators, and food can get dropped behind them, making him just run at the food until it disappears.
+ The coins can be seen even when I'm on the "buy screen".
+ The coins can be "tossed around" if you click it mid-air. I actually like this one -- was it on purpose or is it an accidental feature? ;) |
| Dec 18 20:50:00 | 30h 24m | Your first room | Neat-o! I think the graphics are really good here -- the colorful strokes of both the background and the baby are nice to look at. The heartbeat was a nice touch. Although, the way the baby grew *very* fast from medium-small to large (after growing from tiny to medium-small at a steady pace) was a little unsettling. Is that a bug?

Also, I don't want to start an argument, but seeing as this topic hasn't been mentioned in the comments yet, I'd like to open an idea for discussion: should this perhaps be protected as "inappropriate for children" or "possibly offensive content"? |
| Dec 18 23:46:00 | 2h 56m | Concierge | Hello! First of all, this definitely should be labeled as "possibly offensive content" because of the suicide guy :(

That said, I really liked the concept! It's a lovely puzzle to try and figure out, and after I finish writing this I'm gonna give it a few more goes. I also liked the character graphics. They're really simple, yet very expressive of personality, and the animations enhance them well.

I have yet to get 6 survivors, especially since I haven't figured out how to keep that one guy from killing himself. Perhaps I need someone to take his gun?

Good game! |
| Dec 19 20:15:00 | 20h 29m | Prison Inspector | Not bad, I really like the music! I think this is a pretty good idea for a game, but I have two qualms with the execution. One, it's a little hard to tell what's what (especially the poster -- I can't figure out when it's a problem and when it isn't). Maybe the signs could be a little clearer? The other thing is that there's a bug where you can "find" the same flaw many times and it counts as finding all of them :P

Nice job! |
| Dec 19 20:31:00 | 16m 00s | Don't Touch It, Cat! | Some thoughts:
+ I love that cat. Its face and arm make the game.
+ There's a bit of a graphical glitch when the prof goes from angry to normal -- there's no smooth animation.
+ I liked the music, but...there was no category for it!
+ Is there a goal to the game? My record is 63 taps...does something happen at 100?
+ I appreciate the little animation of the candle -- that adds a lot of visual depth to an otherwise flat scene.

Nice job! |
| Dec 20 21:08:00 | 24h 37m | The Eternal Empire | I really like how throughout the whole game, I only get a view out of that one window. It hammers home the point that maybe this emperor isn't fit to rule.

However, there are a couple of things that I think could have been better. The first one is that I don't think there needs to be 2-3 different musics; in fact, it's a little jarring when it switches from one to another. I think it would have been easier to stay immersed with only the one song (which was really good btw!)

The other thing is that I think there was a little bit too much to process on the screen -- the text seemed a bit "fluffy", and the numbers on the side were a little hard to keep track of. Then again, having nothing but numbers for the statistics emphasizes the ignorance of the king. I am not quite sure what I'd change there, if anything :P

Nice game! |
| Dec 20 23:17:00 | 2h 09m | Mr Farmer | Two things made this game frustrating to me: the window size (too big to fit on my screen, not resizable) and the sheer number of buttons that control the game. I like the concept of walking around growing a farm in various ways, but I couldn't get into it because of that. |
| Dec 26 00:54:00 | 121h 37m | Mighty Lints | Very cool! I really like the pretense here, that the lints are bored and are fighting just to occupy themselves :) I also liked the audio -- the "ringing" sound when a score is made is very satisfying, and the background beat was engaging but not distracting. I also liked the museum backdrop, especially how there were shadows of people -- that was a nice detail.

As for the gameplay itself, though, I found it to be quite laggy and even a little glitchy. The large lints would sometimes seem to disappear without reason. Also, I am not sure there is any difference between the weaponized lint and the regular lint...did the regular one have more health? I think perhaps weaponized lints should not have the ability to collide with big lints :P However, overall I thought the different "game pieces" were well constructed. |
| Dec 29 20:13:00 | 91h 19m | Fear and Freedom | Nice. I like the story here, it was simple yet not underwhelming, and compelling. The art kind of took away from the game, though, as the background was very simple (but in-focus) while the character's icon while talking was blurry and out of focus (did you perhaps scale it up with the wrong scale tool in GIMP?) One other issue was that, when I am racing the beast out of the tower, the camera doesn't scroll up enough for me to get out unless the beast is up far enough as well. But still, this was good overall and I look forward to what you come up with next time! |
| Dec 29 20:34:00 | 21m 00s | Tomb of the Glitch King | Nice game! I really liked the audio, it was simple, but not repetitive, and moody, but not cheesy. I also liked the animation of the floor changing, and the sense of progression as the levels got harder and harder, while also getting more and more "epic". |
| Jan 1 20:13:00 | 71h 39m | My room is too fucking small | Nice, I like the weed icon. Although, as others are saying, it was a little unclear at first what you're supposed to do. I had to read a couple of comments to understand that each piece of paper was a thing I had to do. I also would have liked some BG music, but I did like the sounds you had in there :) |
