I really liked the writing and atmosphere!
The writing did get repetitive after awhile though, and I wasn't sure if there was a win/lose condition, I kept going through choices.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD37 → The Eternal Empire

It's hard to be the Emperor. Texts are well written, and thee music is also very nice, graphics are OK.
I had popups showing the outcome of each decision which makes the game easier, I reached a score of 128 before stopping.
At some point I had multiple musics playing at the same time.
Maybe you should give a try to bare HTML + JS (or so) for this management games; it would help you to reach a wider audience.
It would be so nice to have the sources, so that we can see how you made it. Thanks for making this game!
A very enjoyable management-game, filled with interesting trade-offs. It was particularly hard to balance income vs. stability.
An interesting take on the theme, and the setting and presentation was quite atmospheric (I started dreading the musical piece playing during cutback-decisions)
It would be helpful to have the current balance displayed on the screen as well, to see how far above/below budget the empire is.
Really like the writing and music. The gameplay got a bit boring and I didn't feel that my choices had a major influences on the people. Overall nice work though.
very well written, and a neat design with smart loops that forced me to make tough calls.
Also a very clever use of the theme.
I quite well managed to reduce religion and army while building a welfare state. That was all that mattered.
The tool-tip kept hiding under text and was even simply hiding entirely at points. In a way I don't know if getting to know beforehand the outcome of the actions in exact detail was good dramatically though.
After a while the tasks were repeated without variation, and I get very well the problem with content in the context of Ludum, but I think it would have been beneficial to limit the length of the game a bit with respect to this.
Never liked text based game much, but this game was cool. The music is nice. Didn't last long, too much disorder...
Not my kind of game but seems well done, good job. The background picture is a nice touch.
I really like how throughout the whole game, I only get a view out of that one window. It hammers home the point that maybe this emperor isn't fit to rule.
However, there are a couple of things that I think could have been better. The first one is that I don't think there needs to be 2-3 different musics; in fact, it's a little jarring when it switches from one to another. I think it would have been easier to stay immersed with only the one song (which was really good btw!)
The other thing is that I think there was a little bit too much to process on the screen -- the text seemed a bit "fluffy", and the numbers on the side were a little hard to keep track of. Then again, having nothing but numbers for the statistics emphasizes the ignorance of the king. I am not quite sure what I'd change there, if anything :P
Nice game!
Intriguing game! Interesting take on the theme, the overall scenario is great, the writing is very engaging, and the music fits well with the atmosphere. A had a great experience watching my empire slowly descend into chaos and anarchy, you created the feeling of helplessness perfectly! One complaint that I had, it's that it gets boring after a while and the same options keep popping up, a little more variety will help the game a lot and will keep players engaged for longer.
