| Dec 16 04:44:00 | King of the hill | Plays really smooth and the controls were pretty intuitive after my first failed attempt. :) Gets a little repetitive; even with the playing field shrinking it was the same idea over and over! | |
| Dec 17 23:20:00 | 42h 36m | One Legged Jonny | I think I "won" since I got to the right of the spikes and could just keep running forever :) There seems to be a problem by the way where spikes would spawn earlier than the jetpack; is it possible to jump over them without a jetpack? |
| Dec 17 23:26:00 | 6m 00s | One minute to see the world | Very inventive! I liked this one and its daring minmalism. The color effects are pretty lovely. |
| Dec 18 00:38:00 | 1h 12m | Process Journey | [SPOILERS] <br/>I enjoyed this one a lot, enough to try to get all the endings. I was completely stymied on getting the "good" ending -- I had clicked everything and thought that I had even figured out what I was supposed to do in order to get the best ending, but it wouldn't acknowledge my input. I got so desperate that I looked at the source code, and then I realized that it has bugs that make it impossible to get the good ending (probably introduced when trying to fix the too-easy good ending). The bug is that you can't say <br/> <br/>if variable == "a" or "b": <br/> <br/>that tests first to see if variable == "a", and if not, tests that "b" is true (which it always will be in Python, I think). So the condition ALWAYS holds. You want to do something like <br/> <br/>if variable == "a" or variable == "b": <br/> <br/>There are a few instances of this in the code; the first at line 260 (and a few after that) and then again later at like 788. Might have been another one somewhere. <br/> <br/>Anyway I guess it's a good review if I'm saying that I liked the game enough to fix bugs in order to win it. :) The sound and graphics were super, in particular. |
| Dec 18 03:25:00 | 2h 47m | You Can Only Win | Cute idea; I'm a sucker for theme puns. Intuitive and pretty fun short game, though there are a few problems: You can jump outside the map! (It's not even that tricky; I did it on my second try because I thought that the corridor was a trap.) You can also get to the first spike by jumping over those two coins. |
| Dec 18 03:52:00 | 27m 00s | Last Squadron | I did have fun killing monsters! Initially I thought the controls were too jerky (specifically the unaccelerated x/y), but after I played for a while I appreciated the speed. Massive coin drops reminded me of Smash TV for some reason. I played enough to explore some of the map (still can't figure out if there's anywhere to go) and upgrade my weapon pretty far, and wreak some havoc! |
| Dec 18 04:05:00 | 13m 00s | The Superior Resolution | Ha ha, very good. I got 77 kills before I felt bored, but it was worth it. :) |
| Dec 18 04:20:00 | 15m 00s | Hot Wife: Belarus | I didn't understand what was going on with the mechanic (most of the time, clicking cleared a huge area of the board) and the game made me uncomfortable (because I wasn't sure I "got" the satire), but I suspect that may be part of the idea. Music did have a Hotline: Miami creep factor! |
| Dec 18 04:26:00 | 6m 00s | The mighty spear | Great idea. The game is so hard though! With a continue feature I would have probably beat my head against it until I finished, but it just got too frustrating for me to start from the beginning. |
| Dec 18 04:30:00 | 4m 00s | This is your last one | Wow, what great animations! Like Dragon's Lair, I also felt like it was fundamentally unfair because I didn't know how to know what I was supposed to do to advance, even though I wanted to. Might be helped by a bit faster restart cycle. Very cool though. |
| Dec 18 04:44:00 | 14m 00s | Dangerous TGA (to go alone) | Wow, that was much better than I was expecting from the screenshots. Good music, cute idea, and just fun and low-stress to try out the different weapons. I kinda wished for a little puzzle (like you needed to actually take the water gun a few rooms deep by avoiding enemies) but still was satisfying. |
| Dec 20 00:27:00 | 43h 43m | Berathen Jam | Good idea (though of course it has been done before), and pretty fun collection of (very) mini games. Liked the soundtrack, though it didn't totally fit with the graphical style? First time I played I got 13. |
| Dec 20 00:30:00 | 3m 00s | You Only Get One Chance to Impress your Girlfriend with a Game You Made | This is cute.. I like the graphics and the pirates drowning. There isn't much point in me moving around, though; basically I just stay in the same spot and jump when the admiral turns around. Right? |
| Dec 20 00:41:00 | 11m 00s | Title Goes Here | Hmm, I really tried to make progress in this one, but every time I showed an item to one of the companions it ended the game! Maybe I was winning. :) The control scheme was pretty awkward to me, as I kept forgetting which one was which. |
| Dec 21 20:03:00 | 43h 22m | Fountain | Very good, especially the sound. But I only got two.. :( |
| Dec 21 20:12:00 | 9m 00s | The Visitor | You had me at muffin gun :) Some of the triggers will fire over and over, like if you talk to the Shaman after talking to the mayor, he'll warp in a second time... |
| Dec 21 20:21:00 | 9m 00s | Byte's Socks | Cute idea, I played it all the way through. Art and music are great. The sock mechanic was basically just a timer with save points; I thought the puzzles could have been much more interesting. (For example, I don't feel like my socks should get any dirtier when in the air or standing on clean-looking concrete?) |
| Dec 21 20:28:00 | 7m 00s | Take one thing with you. | Good job for a first LD! I appreciated the speed of my player and of the respawn, though I thought the spiders were a bit unfair (they can easily trap you and make it impossible to proceed). Lots is up to luck. But I did play until I got some good loot. :) |
| Dec 25 22:08:00 | 97h 40m | One | A cute and uplifting little game! I found it strange that I couldn't move around while on the ground, and the controls were generally kind of weird, but the music was super and it was the right length. :) |
| Dec 25 22:24:00 | 16m 00s | One Chance | I was confused for a while about how to move at all (spoiler: shift turns up the throttle) and then I had a hell of a time finding the asteroid (the green dotted square is very useful but I thought you were talking about the large green rectangle on the screen always!). But then I found it and blew it up with a few seconds to spare. :) Nice graphics and music! |
| Dec 25 22:47:00 | 23m 00s | Unibrow | I enjoyed it and I made it to the conference (though pretty late!). The dimension shifting mechanic is cool, though there was hardly ever any penalty to having the third dimension available, so I always just did it as soon as I saw a battery. The respawning batteries made this pretty easy. The game ran pretty slow for me and the controls were a bit soft, which made some of the jumping needlessly hard. Did you know you can beat the final boss without heading to the left? Nice music, though it didn't seem to fit with the levity and graphical style to me? |
| Dec 25 23:41:00 | 54m 00s | Wilhelm's Escape | Great! Awesome graphics, sound, humor ("no time for sex" really made me laugh). The progression was a little illogical although some of the steps on the way to the sex card were intuitive. I think I explored all the deaths. The main downside for this game was that I'm now worried it's impossible to actually escape, which makes me not want to continue exploring... |
| Dec 25 23:43:00 | 2m 00s | The 9th Life | (for me the OS/X version just said "this is damaged and should be moved to trash" on Mavericks) |
| Dec 25 23:54:00 | 11m 00s | 0RBITALIS | This is cool, though it runs pretty slowly on my laptop, which makes it really hard. I got past a few levels with extra patience!! |
| Dec 26 00:15:00 | 21m 00s | Lumen | Excellent sound design and mood. I liked following my light sphere through the dark for a while, but it eventually got pretty tedious to guess and then have to track it down and then die on some spikes and start over. I wish it was a bit more forgiving or a bit more arcadey? |
| Dec 26 00:24:00 | 9m 00s | You Only Get One Wish | I enjoyed this one. The the casual writing style was funny and on the mark. Played through for a couple of different endings. :) |
| Dec 26 00:37:00 | 13m 00s | You Are The One | I got to the third level but I think it's too slow on my computer, because the controls seem really laggy, and I'm not even close to being able to do those precise jumps. Is it possible it's even getting slower each time I die? But, good concept! |
| Dec 26 01:00:00 | 23m 00s | The Last Seconds Of Earth | This is a cool looking world, and for an unfinished game it was pretty fun to explore. I did activate some of the buttons, though it seemed finnicky whether it would acknowledge that I had pressed them -- like maybe I had to be a specific distance away? Very ambitious! |
| Dec 27 01:29:00 | 24h 29m | You Only Get One Limb | I think this idea is hilarious and the graphics are great. I had a hell of a time getting anywhere though. The 'x' key doesn't seem to do anything on my mac. ctrl kind of holds onto the floor, maybe, but if I press ctrl-left then it switches desktops. I was able to make it a bit down the way to the right, but a rope blocked my progress. Am I missing something? |
| Dec 29 23:23:00 | 69h 54m | A Precious Arrow | [SPOILERS] <br/> <br/>A beautiful knot! You always make great games and this is one of my favorites. I got both endings, though I was way off track on the crown one, and had to peek at the source to figure out where. The sequencing is great, and I had several occasions where I gave up because I thought something was too hard, but then couldn't stop thinking about the game, and then figured out a thing to try and it worked. :) (And thank you for the hint in the screen shot.) <br/> <br/>Some sequence breaks: <br/> - You can get past the scorpion and keep your antidote, if you make it off the screen before it runs out. This means that you can go back to the right and survive the scorpion a second time (or arbitrary number of times). Moreover, you can escape the super strawberry like this: After entering the room, immediately move to the right and then to the left to position most of your body off-screen (go as far as you can). Supa Fraise will usually attack low, breaking through the wall, then quickly again high. During his second attack it's possible to jump over him and escape. I only did it once, and then stepped on a frog, but I think it's possible to beat the game without fighting the cyclop this way, or have an arrow when fighting him?? <br/> - I'm pretty sure it's possible to get the antidote without giving up your arrow, though I never succeeded (such a long hike!). But I did jump over the monkey from the right, which should require the same clearance. If you did this you could reach the cyclops the normal way with an arrow, or it'd make the previous sequence break much easier cuz you could just shoot supa fraise. You could also avoid picking up the bow and arrow at all, which I thought would be the 2nd ending for a long time. <br/> <br/>Another bug: If you die while supa fraise is breaking a wall (earthquake), the window can stay horizontally offset until you reload. <br/> <br/>Some flaws IMO: I think the starting part of the game could use an additional save point (maybe near the monkey), as I think many people will be turned off by how hard this part is. I also thought the second group of strawberries was very frustrating to get by, since as far as I know you just need to wait for them to randomly move somewhere in order to get over them. The cyclops fight was really hard but ultimately satisfying. The fact that 'R' restarts (and saves) without prompting was frustrating when I tried to press ctrl-r to fix some graphic bugs! <br/> <br/>This game was really hard but totally worth the challenge. Thanks for making it! Top marks. :) |
| Jan 2 00:14:00 | 72h 51m | Constrained | Really quite impressive for three hours! It is a bit hard to keep track of what I have active when executing, though maybe that is part of the point. On the second puzzle I was just doing trial and error until I found a path that worked. It's a clever idea, though and I had fun! |
| Jan 2 00:52:00 | 38m 00s | Touch | A great little statement! I guessed what it was "about" by the end but it was still well executed, especially the music. |
| Jan 2 02:59:00 | 2h 07m | Underbyte | This one was really fun! The physics and enemy behavior are not that tight, but the glitchfest made it make sense. I loved the music too. It was maybe a little too cruel to make your score persist between rooms, because I entered the last one with like 60 health, which made it extra hard. But I completed the game. :) |
| Jan 2 03:30:00 | 31m 00s | You Are Disabled | Man, that was frustrating, but I'm pretty sure that's the point. I would sure hate to have the movement disorder I had in a world where there are spikes on the ceiling, and it was especially bad when I'd spontaneously go back to the previous room and kill myself. I won, though I think I (unintentionally?) bypassed the last few rooms by going above the level starting on the one with "they are made from the devil". I think this one will stick with me. |
| Jan 2 04:26:00 | 56m 00s | Prime Mover | It's great! I found it really difficult, and it's a strange kind of difficulty because it's only the first 5 seconds or so of a level that matter, while you get everything under control. The frantic mousing is a harder than it should be because clicking to set the direction often just selects another circle -- I would have preferred to use a modifier or right click or something. I beat it and I thought it was the right length. Graphical style looks awesome. I love how each level becomes a colorful googly-eyed monster when you beat it. <br/>Music and sound reminds me a lot of Hotline Miami. |
