LD39 — Running out of Power

[Web] Apocalyptic Gamer by Linver 2017-08-09T22:01:40Z

This is a really smart way to integrate the power theme. The juxtaposition between the slick pixel art screen and realistic hands is neat, too.

The puzzle design is also pretty clever -- though the game does have one major underlying flaw: The mechanic can be wholly avoided through memorization or simple trial / error. Despite this, its still a great idea that could certainly be expanded upon.

Space Is Dark by Peter Jonsson 2017-08-09T22:58:55Z

This game is greasy smooth! The controls and presentation are both really solid -- you did a great job on making the blocky aesthetic work. The brief tutorial that summarizes the controls and general goal is also much appreciated.

Probably my largest recommendation would simply be to expand on the existing features. More enemy types, maybe some sort of ship upgrade system, etc. Space Is Dark is a great framework that could and should certainly be expanded upon.

I do have my doubts about the algorithmically generated music, though. The sound design is otherwise solid.

Nicely done game! The score-bonuses and multipliers really help solidify this is an arcade-y "for points" type of game. I don't mind the game's blistering difficulty -- though a more forgiving health system might help alleviate the game's crazy pace.

I would recommend taking a bit of time to remove all the crashes, though -- such things can be a huge turnoff.

Light It Up by yawoada 2017-08-09T22:10:25Z

The simplistic presentation is both charming and helps to emphasize just how well both the character and enemies move -- I find that the player controls pretty well aside from their extremely "floaty" jump arc.

The "light's out!" mechanic is pretty solid -- though it would definitely be a huge improvement to the game's overall feel and re-playability if there was some heavier payment for turning the lights back on rather than an arbitrary point loss.

Overall, v. cute game.
