LD52 — Harvest

Revengetables by adam-gould 2023-01-09T00:34:13Z

This game has more character than any other I've played this jam; the character voices and catch phrases are all top-notch! The voiced-over tutorial was nice, too.

I liked the idea of switching characters, although I sometimes felt stuck with one when I hadn't known what was coming next. There were also some things I didn't see coming (I died when I shot one of the red things the drones dropped and it shifted over to the right and landed on me), but overall I really enjoyed the experience, with some fun enemy variety and player control variety.

Thanks for a fun submission!

This was such a fun play! I'm very impressed with how many puzzles and how much variety you were able to put together; the different mechanics interacted in very interesting ways. The last level felt like a very satisfying combination of all that I had learned along the way—it was trickier, too, taking me more tries than any previous puzzle. Bravo!

Who's been leaving all those scythes around? 😂 I hope I'm a green shirt guy and not marked for imminent doom haha.

Thanks for the submission, and keep up the great developing!

What a fun play! Great visuals and music all around, very cohesive and enjoyable.

Only a couple small things—I didn't notice much feedback when I crashed into asteroids, so I thought it was safe (yes, despite familiarity with the original... maybe I'm just dumb haha). A little more knockback, a particle spray, or a more pronounced sound effect would probably clarify this just fine, since I didn't even notice my "shield" text (maybe better represented a a bar?) until it was down to 20/100.

That's all first-playthrough stuff, as I knew what to watch for after that, but it's what came to mind to comment on.

Thanks for sharing, and happy developing!

Such a fun play, thank you!!

There is a lot that's working super well here already—my favorites include the audio feedback and the delivery/survival genre mashing. It's like the Overcooked on the set of Vampire Survivors or 20 Minutes Til Dawn! Amazing—would be cool to see iterations like moving delivery trucks that change location during the level, although the level designs already give some great variety!

There are some small technical things that I think could make the feel even more enjoyable. As someone else already mentioned, character movement is probably the big one—the character sometimes keeps moving for a while after the player releases the keys, and often gets stuck on fences (probably just a collider that is too big to feel intuitive to players like me). A couple of smaller gripes you might consider is switching to a "press-and-hold" delivery system instead of button mashing and something weird where carrots delivered at the bottom of the screen fly up way fast. But overall, I had a lot of fun.

The yam puns are a 10/10! 😂

Alien Fruit Harvest by kossnocorp 2023-01-08T23:25:56Z

A fun play! The audio is great, and the feedback when the player character bounces against things, both its visual jiggling and its cute squeaking sounds, are top-notch.

I did find playing a bit strange—I liked how powerful the jumps were, but using the arrow keys instead of the mouse felt unintuitive for a game in this genre (which I would usually expect to have a drag-down, release-to-launch-up control mechanic). The result was that I felt I didn't have much control of my character, something that felt especially unforgiving when you can fall so far back down! I didn't know I was signing up for a sequel to "Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy!" 🤣

Thank you for the submission, and happy developing!
