LD55 — Summoning

FRIED AWAY by Kyrios 2024-04-17T01:36:33Z

The stylistic polish here is top notch: intro cutscene, a hilarious running animation, great sound all around, death screen with tragic music, love it! Huge fan.

As a minor gripe though, the play experience is a bit janky at the moment. It seems too easy to fail at drawing because your cursor is slightly colliding with something, and there's no audio cue for that. Once you realize that, you start dropping the platforms from above, which is fun! But, then the chicken seems to randomly die when reaching an incline you're certain you've seen him jump over before. But when your own chicken-bridge is too high, he just gets stuck waiting until it despawns.

Overall, I think this is great. The behavioural quirks hurt my experience, but these things happen in short jams like this. Just something to keep in mind for next time!

Good stuff!

This was great! I like how the early game has you figuring out what the items do and how they're best used, then the mid game has you trying to optimize your team for one of the available fights.

The minimalistic tutorial told me just enough to get me going, and I was able to figure out the rest. Pretty polished too!

Tower Of Madness by Chiara Sanviti 2024-04-16T19:28:05Z

This is good!

I like incremental games, and hard-capping the time limit to turn it into more of an efficiency race was a great idea. Also clever to have some units add chaos while others cleanse it, resulting in a bit more strategic thinking than just "click biggest guy as soon as available". Would've been nice to be able to swap demons by dropping one on another, otherwise you can't take advantage of the bonuses once the rooms are full. Or perhaps that's another small avenue of strategy!

I like the music a lot too! Couldn't find a credit for it though.

Well done overall :)

Saturna's Hand by parkuhrmd 2024-04-18T02:00:17Z

I think the tutorial text could've sacrificed some flavour to become more clear. I made it through quite a few summonings before I finally understood what the goal was. I don't think "Sigils combine to form a protection rune, trap the daemon by creating the binding sigil" actually means anything to someone playing the game for the first time. (But it makes sense in retrospect!)

That being said, this is an **excellent** jam game. The lighting and animation polish is great, and I loved the card burning mechanic! That in particular felt so "discovered". The core gameplay is a very neat idea, and once I understood the larger goal, it was fun to solve each puzzle.

Really good stuff here. Well done!

Demonic Panic by Guilloteam 2024-04-22T11:21:56Z

This is a fun idea! This jam version of the game is held back by there being only shoot-straight-at-you-slow-projectile enemies, making it almost impossible to ever lose. But obviously with more time, more interesting enemies could be added, and I could see this getting super tight and panicked! Having to plan out circles to draw while dodging complex projectile patterns could be really rewarding. Music's a good vibe too.

Not sure why there are two tutorials. Also, souls and chalices can spawn out of bounds, and the blood trail resetting when you pick up a chalice feels weird and emergency-bugfixish. All-in-all, just polish issues really. Cool stuff!

Dry Season by HolyPerceval 2024-04-18T03:15:13Z

The lightning got a good laugh out of me. The brutality of it caught me completely off guard lol

It would've been nice to see a bit more design work on the UI, or even some colours on the QWER destinations to help differentiate them.

Fun interpretation!

WOW. Crushed it.

Nothin' beats the Big Boyyyyyyy (and bonus points for Zane Little)!

Summon Squad by roman_hyacinths 2024-04-16T21:28:33Z

Cute!

Very clear visual presentation. The game was easy to intuit, too. And, I liked having to discover the extra functionality of the skeleton on my own. That was a great "what am I missing here..." moment.

The jam-prototype of the game doesn't quite feel "puzzley" until that 6th room, but it's a great demonstration of the concept, and I can imagine it really exploding out with new summons and all sorts of head-scratchin' moments! I think the most exciting aspect of this design is the potential for more emergent mechanics between the summons, having to experiment to discover synergies between them. Very cool.

I couldn't figure out why I had 3 spiders in the 5th puzzle, or 4 in the 6th. Only 2 were needed in both, and I couldn't see any potential "intended solutions" that required more, but I didn't spend too long thinking about it.

Good stuff!

Burger Ritual by meylish 2024-04-18T03:01:19Z

As far as the presentation goes, your team knocked it out of the park. You have good sound, a really nice, cohesive visual style, and a fun universe to set the game in. Working at a fast food restaurant that serves disgusting food to evil characters is funny, and I was drawn in immediately!

From a gameplay perspective, this submission is missing its core mechanic, in my opinion. I'm not quite sure it's a game yet. The current loop is following simple instructions under no time pressure or compounding mechanic of any kind, which I think is a shame since every other aspect of this project is fantastic.

Cat Summon Simulator by mayitbeeld 2024-04-17T02:35:28Z

Hey, that was great! Fun little logic puzzles to work through. I appreciate that you added a reset button and allowed for swapping ingredients by dragging them over each other. Did all 8 cats and was actually disappointed there weren't more! I was really enjoying the process.

Extending the play area to introduce more complexity was a good idea.

Tiny bit of a visual bug, I think, in that the items can be dragged underneath the recipes.
