LD44 — Your life is currency

Overburnt by Ithildin 2019-05-06T20:50:34Z

Like others have said before, the fatigue mechanic seems kind of redundant, because it never reaches dangerous enough levels. Anyways, the game is surprisingly fun. The pacing is really good, you're always doing something and it doesn't give you time to breathe. The graphics are good, though the characters' art is rather simple compared to the other objects. Good job!

Your game is funny. Good music, fitting art and really good dialogues. Although, as Penny pointed out, it has nothing to do with the theme. Not that it matters, I still had fun.

Does Money Grow on Trees by Antti Haavikko 2019-05-04T14:11:56Z

Played the html5 version. It's really really good, though I failed to reach $300 in two weeks. It's really incredible what you could do in two days. It feels really "juicy", the text, the sounds, the movement, the effects when you plant stuff. And you even had the time to add all those little emails! If I had something to criticize, it would be the outside background looks a bit off. Maybe it's the fences or the perspective of the house or the bushes, I don't really know. Apart from that, I didn't know that the plants followed the game of life rules, so they just kept dying and I thought it was random. Anyways, incredible job!

It's incredible you could make a multiplayer game in three days. The idea is interesting, but playing alone is boring. The music is fitting and the gameplay is an original implementation of the theme, I think. Alas, there wasn't much to do. I ended up just making a wall and letting every circle just kill themselves forever.

The idea is good, but the game doesn't feel very good to play. I mean, flying feels heavy? Conversely, attacking doesn't have any impact. The dash is too long and takes too much time on cooldown. I found the game a bit hard because of that, but I guess that after a few plays I'd do better. The sounds are weird, but go well with the overall mood. The graphics... I don't really know. It's not that it's ugly but maybe it looks kind of amateurish? I don't mean Squita and their boss, those are great, but overall things look kind of disconnected. Maybe it's just me. Art is subjective, after all. Anyways, the game really fits the theme like gameplay-wise and on a narrative level, and I didn't find bugs or anything wrong, so good job! Also, since it's a Unity game, you could easily make builds for Mac and Linux. That way you could reach more people.

I've Got A Second Chance At Life But Now I'm An Axolotl And In Massive Debt by remruts 2019-05-02T16:03:20Z

Hahaha, yeah it wasn't on purpose, though. Just wrote whatever to try to convey the story that I didn't have the time to put into the game. This is my first time participating, so I couldn't manage my time very well. Anyways, thanks for playing! :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'm aware of most of those problems. The level generation didn't take that long, though I didn't really mess with it to make interesting levels. I just didn't want to make things by hand since I take too long designing levels and the end result wouldn't have been much better. There were other little things that sucked my time, like I spent almost two hours on the numbers that come out when you get hearts or lose lives and they weren't really necessary. But I guess these things happen your first time on a game jam. The music was made by my brother on a whim in 10 minutes, so I guess it's natural that it doesn't fit. And I'm sad that I couldn't get some sound effects in. I didn't think about the aiming reticule, so thanks for mentioning it! The Mac and Linux builds were made after the submission deadline so I forgot to update this page. Will do it in a bit. Again, thanks for playing!

@ithildin Yeah, it seems that it's broken for a lot of resolutions. I think the best fix is drawing everything to a quad and then render the quad to screen (with bars when it doesn't fit). If I fix that, I'd probably want to fix A LOT of other stuff, so I won't be doing it quite yet. So, not this month, but maybe the next one when I'm not so busy and the voting has ended? I'm glad you liked it and thanks for playing.

@minibobbo Yeah, balancing was not part of the design process, hahaha. Thanks for playing and the nice words. Since there are some people who liked it, I'll try to finish it some time in the future.

@rufia Thanks! I think choosing a limited color palette worked well with the simple art. The hearts jumped around when spawned, which I think was more fun, but there was some kind of bug and they don't jump anymore.
