LD33 — You are the Monster

Unawere by Mythalore 2015-08-26T17:53:00

Could definitely do with some sound effects, it was pretty difficult to tell that I was doing any damage at all (or that I was taking damage). Like others said, the camera needs to be done something about, it's annoying to be at the top of the screen the entire time, and it's too easy. I never had more than one enemy on the screen, so all I had to do was spam Z. Mixing a running game with some kind of topdown brawler could probably be expanded on though, might be pretty cool.

The Skullcatcher by CrownCity 2015-08-27T14:03:00

Really enjoyed both graphics and audio, good quality and fit nicely together and felt cohesive. It felt like the mechanic more or less forced me (or incentivised me) to stay very near the drop off point though, it didn't feel like there was much reason to move away from there, as the cats with come towards me anyways. Altogether well done though, I found it fairly easy, but it was an enjoyable experience.

Death of a Lich by managore 2015-08-26T19:49:00

Nice idea overall, reminds me of Hoplite. Might be a bit on the hard side though, and it it's a bit depressing dying at 4-5 souls and getting nothing for it (atleast when there's a mechanic in place like the one there is, like, since it's there I automatically expected I'd get something).

You get a bit unfairly goofed by the rng at times it feels like, but overall I enjoyed it, good work.

KleenEmUp by tanjent 2015-08-26T20:27:00

Pattern mechanic is nice, although it's a bit frustrating at times to lack control over it. Right now it feels like it's pretty chaotic, and you can just click without minding the board much, but I think the general mechanic could be refined and done something pretty neat with!

DRUMSTER by SoulGame 2015-08-27T22:06:00

Music was great, and the animations were amazing! I didn't find it all that hard, but I'm pretty used to rhythm games. I kept getting stuttering issues though where the screen and the music would freeze up for a moment, which made me drop the combo, so that was a bit annoying :/ Overall, nice twist on the theme, and congratulations on managing to create a pretty well polished rhythm game with so little time!

Jenkaiu by PeYMaN 2015-08-29T08:00:00

Looks great, sounds great! My only complaints have already been mentioned, ai of some kind would be nice, powerbar should maybe move down again if you overshoot, and the time between turns is maybe a bit much, but overall it's very fun. The physics also feel really onpoint! Well done!

People Can Be Monsters by amras0000 2015-08-24T20:04:00

Definitely a cool interpretation of the theme! UI wasn't entirely clear (e.g., I had difficulties telling when the game was actually ending (too soon!)), but the theming felt very strong.

Took me a while to figure out that you could actually edit the headlines and not just erase them, but once I found that out it was fun editing even the harmless ones into ones I found more fitting of a person in my position. I also had some issues reading the wiretap in the ordinary graphics mode, but it was fine in the seizure-friendly mode.

Really enjoyed it overall, would like to see it going on for longer and having some progression in it.

Fade by CreamyBacon1 2015-08-26T16:59:00

While not very polished (and with only 7 hours of work I don't blame you!), I feel like there could actually be something to this. You seem to have a pretty good idea of how to use the mechanic in a nice way to create some pretty interesting platforming. I managed to mute in the beginning though, and couldn't unmute :( But I think this could definitely be pretty nice with some more work, I'm getting a slightly metroidvania-like vibe from the level design, maybe that's something that could be expanded on?

Minotough by Knatt 2015-08-26T21:22:00

Neat concept, but like said, it does fall a bit flat on the fact that you can't do much of a strategy really. Maybe if moves had more of a persistant effect of some kind? Definitely a cool idea, and I love the look of the minotaurs themselves. Some audio would've been nice though.

Sanika by Frozen Stick 2015-08-29T08:21:00

The graphics are sort of neat (player's body looks a bit out of place though). Could probably do something more with the tiles, they are a bit plain. Major issue though, atleast for me, is that the boss is just unnecessarily flashy. It doesn't really add anything, I'm sorry, it's just annoying.

Other than that, playerspeed felt a bit low, and it felt like you couldn't really control your jumps (very high arc and no ability to do smaller ones). Audio was pretty well done.

Monster Adventure by pyokoanarogue 2015-08-26T21:02:00

Controls definitely need some tighting up, might want to raise player speed a bit. I also kept bouncing off walls and stuff, which occasionally made me fall several screens.

Monster Mash! by grotewold 2015-08-26T22:06:00

Neat idea, but the keyboard mashing itself isn't all that fun. Could potentially be a bit of fun if there was something like small minigames instead, which gave you more meter the faster you did them. Graphics were pretty funny if a bit basic (I think they fit pretty well), and both the music and the scare sound felt like they worked well.

Pushy Monster by anarbitrarymustache 2015-08-26T17:46:00

Pretty cool! The controls felt a bit unresponsive, and I managed to hit R once after having gone out through the door which made the game lock up (but that was on the second run through), but other than that it was pretty neat.

Only having limitted time to set things up feel like it could create some pretty fun, chaotic moments where you have to set things up as the hero is already walking. A bit short, would love to see a couple of extra levels added :)

Basket Case by Quij 2015-08-26T21:37:00

Simple but pretty unique gameplay idea, and definitely not what I'd associate monster with, so bonus points for that :) Pretty fun (splat splat splat!), but it was very difficult to play with the lack of mouselock.

Creep by Koneke 2015-08-26T17:20:00

Myeah, I might have gone a bit overboard on the fov. I was going for a bit more than usual since you're an alien, but since I'm used to pretty high fov I might not have noticed it going too high. Sorry about that! Hope you could enjoy it anyways :)

Creep by Koneke 2015-08-26T17:33:00

Oh, sorry, missed your comment since we wrote at the same time! That's a very valid comment, I'll keep that in mind for the future (and might put it into a post-jam version once I get some time left over). Thanks! :)

Creep by Koneke 2015-08-26T21:43:00

Yeah, the fov seems to be an issue for quite a lot of people really, I blame it on my excessive amount of Quake-playing: it just seems normal or even low to me :p But it's definitely something I should have thought about.

Was planning on both music and some nice ambient sounds (like some sweet bubbling for the acid), but since I spent almost an entire day just getting my computer working again I unfortunately didn't have the time for that.

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it!

Creep by Koneke 2015-08-27T08:39:00

The wallclimbing has a pretty short range which is probably why it at times feel like you can't grab, that could probably do well with some tweaking.

I haven't noticed any issues with the jumping though, what is it that isn't feeling consistent? Like, the length/height of it, or when you can jump, or?

And yeah, if (when) I do a post-jam version I'm putting line of sight on the humans, I more or less only did it this way to be able to trigger them through walls (like the once coming out of the doors). Since the original idea was more stealthbased I wanted them to walk towards where they last saw you, so it'll probably be something like that. And they could do with some footsteps, I didn't quite get how much they'd sneak up on you since I knew exactly where they were myself (should've gotten people to test it...).

Appreciate the feedback from all of you, thanks! :)

Grimzilla by tomhunt 2015-08-27T13:52:00

Player movement feels very slow (bug? it's like, 5 pixels a second), so you're barely able to move around at all, and the enemies push you around a lot, so it's difficult to get where you want which gets a bit annoying. Your attack hitbox didn't seem to match with the animation either, but that's less of a problem, it still felt pretty easy to hit things.

Look of the main character was nice though, and the music was (if a bit short of a loop) enjoyable. Felt like I couldn't die though? There were eight soldiers shooting me for two minutes straight and I didn't die.
