LD44 — Your life is currency

Signal by HitchH1k3r 2019-05-07T22:49:21Z

I can't believe this doesn't have more ratings than this. This isn't exactly my genre of choice (I'm a sword boy for life), but the polish is great.

I will say the audio mix is a little harsh sometimes, and there was occasional Z-fighting between some of the sprites, like that little alligator guy occasionally goes behind the shop. probably an order-in-layer issue. Another thought is to perhaps make it so you only receive signal when near enemy robots, since otherwise you can just sit in front of the shop and just buy everything immediately without playing the game. Perhaps in story the shop area is shielded from the signal and thats why you didn't go crazy.

Either way, the music is great, the graphics are very nice, and I'm sure the gameplay is fun. Also, your dialog system is nice and solid.

The Garden of Life by Sarah 2019-05-09T20:37:47Z

So the visuals and audio are quite solid. My only issue with the game was that it wasn't always clear what was happening. I'm still not totally sure why the flowers would disappear, or whatever raises or lowers your score, or what even determines why you can plant one flower over another, or why even one should. I've seen other games like this for this LD, I just feel like people are having trouble expressing their goals to the player for the most part. If you can figure out how to make feedback to the player a little more clear about what the goal of the game is, it could be an interesting experience.

A very polished experience. Very Gauntlet-esque. Amazing that you pulled this off in the Compo timeframe by yourself!

I'd love to know how you did the show effect for the sprites, I'm trying to do a similar effect in my own game outside of LD. I love this aesthetic.

@detectivelosos Sorry, that was a typo, I meant the shadow effect, like how you got your sprites to cast a realtime shadow

@detectivelosos Oh hey, that debug menu thing was all I really needed, my shader I was already using seems to work fine! Thanks so much! Good luck if you intend to take this project further, or anything else you might do

Super cool concept. I liked the art (where it was), the music was great, an the concept itself was super interesting. I found the controls for switching between forms slightly difficult, especially on the thing where you had to switch from Spider to Bunny on a wall, and the friend collection sound is way loud compared to everything else. Very good though
