LD26 — Minimalism

Fight The Minimalism by Cyboot 2013-04-29T03:58:00

For some reason, it started wayyy off the side of my monitor so I couldn't see it, had to open task manager and right-click it to maximize it. I see others had this problem too so just thought I'd say how I fixed it.

On to the actual game, it's neat how the graphics improved as you progressed. Directly opposing the theme is certainly a different take on it ;). That said, the rest of it is kinda meh; there weren't really any distinguishing features or mechanics to set it apart from other puzzle platformers. The music was quite polished, though, very pleasant to listen to especially in the later levels.

There isn't very much of a game here. It's got objectives but no obstacles to those objectives, so there's no challenge. As part of a larger system, I could see it being interesting though. The visuals and sound effects work well together to produce a relaxing mood at least. It is minimal but it doesn't feel like a complete experience.

Our games share a name! Of course I had try yours :)
It's a neat concept, but once you introduce the filters I'm completely lost. I passed level 6 through trial and error but level 7 is just way beyond me at the moment.

Coin Collector by anbreizh 2013-04-29T03:44:00

For some reason I couldn't stop playing. The fact that the "coin magnet" power was so strong made me want to strategize about where to position myself on the screen so I could collect the power-ups most efficiently, although it does kind of disincentivise going after the coins themselves. Music is very good, has that Tetris feel to it and I never got tired of it.

Phase Shft by nickusername1 2013-04-29T05:58:00

Neat mechanic and concept, I'd like to see it once you've fleshed it out some more. This version could use some polish.

Oh, and I managed to get it stuck on level 2 by throwing the box when flush against the wall: http://imgur.com/ZduznQc

Arcane Siphon by justin35f 2013-04-29T05:27:00

The resource-gathering idea is interesting, but the difficulty is off the chart. Especially due to there being little to no communication in-game about the enemies' aggro mechanics. It seems some (most) of the cubes are docile? And aggro is partially based on line of sight? It'd be nice to have some explanation instead of just getting blindsided constantly. And you are so fragile! If a cube sneaks up behind you even once, you're toast. Forget it if several happen to spawn nearby to you. Very frustrating. I know how hard it can be to communicate mechanics to players, but it would be much better if it were a bit more forgiving.

The Minimalism Quest by Pol 2013-04-29T07:00:00

Very well polished and quite fun to try to get the best rank! Feels very responsive and everything comes together well. Not much replay value but now I feel like I'm asking a lot of something that was made in 48 hours. Nicely done all around.

Farmworld by svenardo 2013-04-29T06:53:00

It's ok. Battles are pretty simple and don't require much decision making. It seems kind of mindless hunting each square for a random event, I don't feel very motivated to keep trying. Especially after I found you can get infinite gold by spamming the 'E' key on an empty space :0 then it's just a matter of buying hundreds of health and stamina pots.

OZE by BigBlackBeard 2013-04-29T04:50:00

I don't think I've seen a game with this exact mechanic before, and there were some clever parts that make good use of it. However, the music drove me freaking nuts. Not sure why exactly but I found it irritating beyond belief. Nice game other than that.

Bipolar Bradley by cason 2013-04-30T05:07:00

Nice atmosphere, very bizarre. Once I figured out what the pickups do and found the "field of plenty" I was able to get over 2 million points, and I know there's more optimal routes than what I did. Good job on this.

I was hoping it would be self explanatory :< guess I failed since you're not the first person to say that. Hover over the buttons at the bottom to change the background color.

Abyss by SomeNetworkGuy 2013-04-29T05:44:00

Overall not a bad game, after a little practice I managed to get 43000. The block exploding mechanic encourages movement through the center when you'd otherwise avoid it, which is good. The perspective takes some getting used to, it can be hard to tell how far away things are. It also feels a little "flat," you might think about ramping up the difficulty over time to keep it interesting.

Ming Imah Lism the Wizard ! by Gustera 2013-04-30T04:29:00

Not sure anyone else here actually beat the boss, it took forever and seems to require knowledge of two non-obvious game mechanics: you move twice as fast going diagonally and your mana kind of recharges in the background, letting you just tap space occasionally instead of sitting and concentrating. It's also really mean that you have to kill all the little goblins before the king will go down D:. Still I suppose I have to give you credit for making me want to beat it.

Save the potato! by loxo 2013-04-29T06:37:00

Not bad, reminds me of a game I used to have on the TI-89. Drifter, I think it was called. Fits the theme and shows you can make a game with only one input :). Felt a little unresponsive though, it seemed like you switch direction when the spacebar comes back up. Might feel a bit better if it happened when you push it down.

ColorMeld by ThreeUp 2013-04-29T06:15:00

It's not a bad physics simulation, but I don't really understand what's going on with the color combining and the balls breaking off. I played it twice, the first time it stopped at 71 seconds then started again (?) and looked like it would never end. The second run got to 200 seconds before the Unity player crashed, it looked like it tried to join too many little balls simultaneously or something.

I Want To Go To Space Today! by exoticorn 2013-04-29T03:41:00

Very fun, though I only got to the yellow cubes once. Pretty impressive for using exclusively cubes (even the UI!). Occasionally annoying due to having nowhere to jump to.

Spark by CNIAngel 2013-04-29T05:03:00

This isn't really a game, more of a "hold right to read a few sentences." The music was nice at least, and I suppose it has a decent message, though it's not delivered very powerfully.
