LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Quinx by Joshua Weggartner 2022-10-03T14:31:11Z

Controls feels responsive and hitboxes are pretty good. The difficulty ramps up nicely and visually it looks solid enough. The music was a bit grating after the first minute haha. It'd be nice if the spawn counter counted down instead of up until an arbitrary value when it spawns the next ball. Also, I think it would be more fun to play if the collectibles spawned faster and enemy spawn was tied to the timer.

Also the game could benefit from some borders around the play area.

I don't really know how the minigames are supposed to work? On my PC the game just pauses for a while, doesn't respond to any input and the shooting commences.

Very solid game. Love the visual aesthetics and the game play idea as well! Random game modifiers are always fun. I think I ended up with a combo of modifiers that made it impossible to survive haha. Great game!

What a fun and wonky game haha. Lovely humor, solid execution of the simple visual style. It's effective and I especially loved the backstory.

Visually a very stunning game and everything from the soundtrack to the pieces to the gameplay contributed to a very polished and stressful mood.

I'm not 100% sold on the idea of flipping controls, it didn't feel much of a mechanic I could learn to get better at. I mainly just ran away and focused on shooting behind me, which meant that a most of the levels were too easy.

If your game area would've been a more of an enclosed arena, I would've felt like I should do more than just run and do damage. It's a very solid game nonetheless and very impressive for a jam game :)

10 Second Defence by ZLuca 2022-10-05T22:34:39Z

Lots of good in the game and some bad. Obviously, the time to make the game was very limited so considering that, it's very impressive what you put out. The game feels like the start of an actual proper indie TD game rather than "just" a jam game. In its current state I think the scope should've been narrowed down and the main gameplay loop should've been kept simpler.

I do appreciate that you made a moveable and zoomable play area, there's something akin to the Civ series in your entry. All in all, I think you guys made good effort.

Woah, this game was so much fun. The gameplay loop is simple and effective, keeps you engaged while not being overly complex.

The general polish of the mood, aesthetics and fun is top notch! Well done, guys!

@PeachTreeMcGee Thank you! I agree that if we ever choose to do a voice acting heavy game in the future, we'll definitely have to figure out subtitles!

We played around with different options for verifying the correct pattern and while I agree that other options could add to the joy of discovery, we ended up wanting to simplify as we didn't want to leave any players stuck on the first level :)

what a fun game!

looks wise it was super polished and the gameplay was well thought out. the game was maybe a tad easy to clear, it would've been cool to see more levels or have the difficulty ramp up and maybe some other mechanics to add or swap the spells.

but I really loved the theme and the polish of it all! The soundtrack was the perfect mood for the game as well.
