Very fun game. The aestetics are on point. Good job !
This is a good idea and the art it great. I found the whole UI hard to understand. There is a meter on the side when you are filling the oil but I don't see it moving and then suddenly it's game over.
Five minutes to get an unreliable old car ready for a trip sounds painfully familar. I like the view from the back seat, with the air fresheners hanging over the dashboard. Makes the car feel like somebody actually owns it.
I left my ratings! If you get a chance, please check out and rate our game too: [Robot Workshop](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/60/trashfight).
@stalemeat first of all thanks a ton for your feedback! :D for the oil you have to pull the meter (dipstick) up every now and then so you can see how much oil you filled up. ✌️ really appreciate the feedback tho, so we can make stuff more clear in future projects! :D
@youpz thank you for your feedback and for playing! as one of the artist for the game i am really appreciate that you enjoyed little details like this! ✌️ PS: you're project looks so sick! will play once i have time!
@divarium thanks so much for the feedback and praise! you made the artists happy hehe. :P
That was quite a cool idea! :) Kinda reminds me some games like my summer car, the whole concept of fixing stuff in the car is quite interesting. I felt kinda lost learning how to navigate in the car to be honest, felt that if I went right, like when I looked at the window, I should come back clicking left, and in some points that really confused my mind.
Some of the ideas had a good sense of tactile gameplay, which is always good, specially for an interactive fiction. I wish I could rewind the tape using a pen or something! Like, that thing was so slow XD, but was a really cool moment of the gameplay to me, made me laugh hard! The artstyle is really interesting and has a nice sense of identity, I just wish it avoided a little more the presence of the mixels but thats a matter of personal taste :) Overall a nice work in an interesting concept, cool game!
Cool idea! This has potential to be a really relaxing and fun experience. I have several suggestions:
* Have a consistent way to get "back" - some screens used the edge of the screen (not consistent which side), others have no visible way to get out (escape closes full screen and also closes what's on your screen, sometimes), others have a visible "back" button. * Make it more clear what can be interacted with vs what can't - even when things are interactive (e.g. tape rewind, window rolldown), and make it more clear how close you are to "done" * The 5 minute time limit honestly seems unnecessary - I hit it twice, both times when trying to figure out the last thing on the list, and it didn't add anything to the experience * Tone down or skip the CRT effect - a more subtle version could be a good default, but this is way too much * (minor) make the shifter moves the opposite way the mouse does, for maximum tactile effect
I did really like the art, and having driven an old hatchback as my first car, the nostalgia is real.
Nice one! Got confused with what side cassette needs to be rewinded to, so took me a longer time (kept thinking I didn't do it fully for like 4 rewinds - didn't help that it wasn't saving how much I rewinded for). Also Still confused how I got into trunk. I randomly found it, but I don't know how!
Lost game once since didn't check oil and thought it was automatically updated, like the rest of them... guess its a bit tricky to actually point that you HAVE to use it to check, not wait for it to fill.
Thanks for sharing :)
Cute. I got it in 4:40 on my first try! But I kept trying to rewind the tape using the tape deck like I would have in reality. Rewinding a tape all the way by hand like that takes forever!
I'm under the impression I interacted with everything I could? Potentially nicer interaction points / consistency would go far for this! Cool concept tho and reminds me of some Xbox 360 indie titles!!
Great game, love your take on the theme. Graphics and audio are good. Took me a bit to figure out the tape part part though, I think on my first try I might have somehow missed it in my trunk, and then on my next 2 I stupidly took a while to realize I had to manually rewind the tape and not do so using the tape player haha. Also what was the point of the jack?
