Nice Art
This is super pretty and I love the animation especially (idle one is so fluid, and when she disappears under the floor after using up all the moves). The design and colour palette are masterful, it's such a pleasure to look at!
However, I felt confused right in the beginning; I've tried bringing everything and checking if items can combine, but nothing seemed to work :( Maybe some hints would be helpful (you can put them into description, not game itself), some more explanation on the gameplay/concept, and I would love to give it another try then!
@kanity Yeah, I get it. I've already added a short description on itch.io. I also think I should make the interactive objects easier to spot. They already have green outlines, but they're a bit too thin to notice.
Clear 'where the budget went' :) nice fluid animation. Good mechanics. The combinations were a bit unclear. Perhaps because I didn't recognize all items? Did I get paper from a bucket of water? More future levels would be fun
@strong99 There's a combination (papyrus plant + water = paper). Yeah, I should've labeled all the items, but I just ran out of time. There are also a couple of bugs when picking up items, but I only noticed them after the compo ended. Luckily, they don't prevent you from finishing the game!
@dreamerkaj
Oh I think I musunderstood the assignment, now I got it and swiftly completed the game! It's so neat, every time I finished the level using up all my "steps". It feels rather satisfying :)
The drawings on the walls are cute too!
Combinations are a bit of guesswork, but most of them made sense.
I guess we got a typewriter by the end? With the artstyle as well, I think it ties well into the theme!
The graphics Is beautiful! But I just can’t get past the first level. I brought everything I could find to the campfire, but I still couldn’t figure out which item is supposed to be highlighted in green. Sorry!
@sanechekz Objects outlined in green (sorry, the green outline is a bit hard to see. My bad): 1 scene - a campfire 2 scene - a bucket of water 3 scene - a campfire 4 scene - tools
The graphics are beautiful, and I think there's an interesting game mechanic here, but I couldn't quite figure out what it was. I know that I was combining items to make new ones, but I had a hard time figuring which items combined. I finished the game, but by the end, I was resorting to trial and error. I think it could be a really fun game though if the rules were a little clearer.
couldnt personally figure it out past the second level but I really dig the art and concept!
@shimmerscale Yeah, you're right! Quite a few people have mentioned this, so I'll definitely work on it after the jam results are out.
My idea was to show the evolution of information-sharing technology, starting with cave paintings, then moving on to paper, clay tablets used for printing, and eventually the typewriter.
The idea is to combine the correct item with the green-outlined objects.
@walk thank you! Yeah, I know the green outlines on the objects are a bit hard to see. I'll make sure to fix that later! Objects outlined in green: 1 scene - a campfire, 2 scene - a bucket of water, 3 scene - a campfire, 4 scene - tools. Сombine the correct item with the green-outlined objects.
the art and animation here are gorgeous, the idle motion is so smooth and the color palette is lovely, it feels like a hand crafted little storybook. i also like how the character sinks under the floor when the moves run out, it's a small detail but it gives the whole thing personality. was the move limit the core puzzle idea from the start, or did it come in later? really charming work.
Loved the sprites and the music was also really good.
Was a bit confusing to find the right items, did i miss some hints or was it intended to be trial and error?
@perrarancino Thank you, that really means a lot to me! Yeah, the move limit was planned from the very beginning. There is a small bug with picking up items, though, which causes some moves to be left over after crafting an item. I'll fix it after the jam.
@thoastbot Thanks! That's my bad. I added a green outline around the item, but it's a bit hard to notice. Also, the hints on the walls aren't very clear, so I'll have to rethink them after the jam.
Congrats! Gorgeous pixel art with a tight purple and green palette, and I love how the wall fills up with cave drawings, papyrus and paper as you solve each level. Planning a route down to the very last move is so satisfying. Great job!
The concept of tracing the evolution from a simple charcoal sketch to a sophisticated machine is really creative. Watching that progression across the levels provides a great sense of narrative and really rewards players for figuring out the item flow.
@milq Thank you, I'm really happy to hear that!
@eugenik Thanks. I'm glad you didn't run into any issues while playing the game!
Really nice entry... took me a while to figure out tho 😄 Good job 👍
@purpledartfrog Thanks!
Very cute pixel art !! a bit hard to understand the puzzles
I'm absolutely in love with the art style! It's genuinely breathtaking. The step limit made me think twice (or four times hahaha) before every move, which added a really nice strategic element to the gameplay. Fantastic game design all around!
And it's the first time I've ever seen someone include the actual sheet music for the game's melody! What a wonderful touch! Absolutely loved it. Amazing work, congratulations!
@roroto-sic thank you!
@ethernal-tech Thank you so much! It really means a lot to me to hear that! I just thought that the sheet music is part of the game too, but it's something most people would probably never see. So I figured, why not turn it into an image? At least that way people can see it!
Nice puzzle game! Really reminds me of those old Java mobile games I used to play. Love that nostalgic feeling!
Such a cute lil game! :) Honestly, i got quite confused with the gameplay in the beginning, but reading the page instructions made it more clear to me. Maybe here and there some more feedback when you catch the right item could have helped, but thats a detail after all. Is a very simple one but the very charming art and the overall mood makes it worth a lot to me! :) I have not catch the meaning of the item transformations till I read some of the comments, and that made the game even more interesting! Overall a cool entry with some really nice art and animation! :) Keep up the good work and Thank you for the game!
Edit: Oh, I almost forgot to mention but I think you might want to add a fullscreen button through your itch.io page. Its just a single click there and I think this might solve a bunch of the readability problems that I got (playing it in such a tiny screen was kinda sad)
@alexandru-barbanoua thank you!
@hinamarina Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, I'll definitely fix that.
The game is confusing because sometimes you can't grab some of the visible objects, also the movement is too slow since you must wait for the animation to finish and then also it only detects the intent of moving on an edge of a key press transition instead of the key being held down. The pixel art is cute, fullscreen mode would help and the music was good enough but a bit repetitive.
