Just got the notification from Ludum Dare that you published the game and the first thing that went to my mind is: "can't wait for the video on this one!". Well done, Phil. I'll play here and have some fun now. πŸ˜ƒ

Great effort Phil! Creating an FMV game in a 48 hour jam is an ambitious task. The lack of content is not surprising.

philstrahl 2026-10-20 01:15 ♥ 1

@unidaystudio: I recorded some clips at key moments in the making of this game, so you're good haha! Thank you so much!

@lomna: Thank you so much! Yeah, somehow I over-scoped. At last this time I didn't switch engines midway (but I was very close!) πŸ™ˆ

PHIL... No Linux or web build? I want to play this!

- Sadness fills my mind. A dream shattered, never to come true. I hope someone will post a play-through for the enjoyment of us windo-phobes.

Hope you had fun creating it! πŸ¦„

The opening sax music sets the tone right away. Hard to find the tape without hints, but this idea made me want to shoot real video for my next jam project too. Great concept!

@incd021 I am so sorry! I really tried to get a HTML5 build ready after finishing the Windows submission but I keep having insurmountable problems because the browsers won't play the videos 😒 The format is correct but the autoplay protection somehow makes it impossible to queue them up like on desktop. I never thought that this would be such a problem, but I've been burned so many times by CORS and other protections... I'll keep playing around with it but I can't make any promises...

@chef Thank you for playing! And you definitely should, it was a lot of fun and it was much faster than drawing everything πŸ˜…

oadt 2026-10-21 14:21 ♥ 0

I got lucky: It took me 3 minutes to find the tape, so I was able to enjoy the game a bit longer πŸ˜„

You did a great job at capturing the feel of 90s point and click adventures and I like that the game itself and its content reflect the theme. Also the saxophone music at the start was super fitting! Short but cool entry!

beareye 2026-10-21 19:32 ♥ 0

I didn't expect cinematic videos in this game, but it was cool. Artstyle was really nice and I enjoyed the vibe. I wish there was more of this game! Well done

philstrahl 2026-10-22 14:29 ♥ 1

@oadt Thank you for playing! Yeah, the pixel hunt element was a last minute attempt to stretch the playtime somewhat. I wanted to have lots of funny descriptions of all the things you could find in the shelf at least, but you know how it goes. I'm relieved that the other aspects of the game worked for you at least πŸ˜…

@beareye Thank you so much! I want to keep working on it and make it a more complete little experience with more puzzles involving old tech (and videos); already started refactoring the horrible gamejam code into something more manageable 😊

kwetka 2026-10-22 18:58 ♥ 1

Yes, it’s not much. But I enjoy it.

philstrahl 2026-10-23 18:45 ♥ 0

Thank you for enjoying it nonetheless, @kwetka ❀️

roroto-sic 2026-10-23 21:09 ♥ 0

The video compression, the atmosphere, everything was excellent. Very short but i loved it !

digital-bacon 2026-10-24 10:01 ♥ 0

Was very excited to try this when I saw your YT short, but the I can't get it to run 😭 I get the Pixel Prophecy logo playing, the it goes to a blank window and stubbornly refuses to do anything else.

Loved the concept and the screenshots, and I could at least watch the video clips from disk. 🀞 Hoping there'll be a post-mortem and/or BTS video for this!

philstrahl 2026-10-24 13:20 ♥ 1

@roroto-sic Thank you so much! I hope to finish a longer and better post-jam version!

@digital-bacon Oh noes! I have been refactoring the shoddy gamejam code this past week and compiled you a post-jam version. Content-wise it's almost identical to the jam version (there's now voice over and some fade-out effects) but the underlying code has been rewritten. Hopefully that solves the problem! 🀞

ludumdaredevil 2026-10-24 16:23 ♥ 1

Pretty cool game even though it was pretty short. I really enjoyed the art style and those sounds. So satisfying!

philstrahl 2026-10-25 01:34 ♥ 0

@ludumdaredevil Thank you for playing and I am happy that I've hit the right game feel then! I am currently expanding the game to its original scope which is quite a project haha 😊

digital-bacon 2026-10-25 05:56 ♥ 0

Thanks @philstrahl , the new version plays perfectly. Absolutely adore it, will you keep working on it?

jiri-hysek 2026-10-25 14:59 ♥ 1

Finally finished! That wasn't that hard to find after all :) Anyway, very cool 90's aesthetic and even cooler video sequences. Nothing you can usually see in game jams. And that whole noir mood... It was short but intense! If it's a demo, I'm looking forward to longer version! :)

fifut 2026-10-25 19:31 ♥ 1

It's short, but it's good.

I've always thought about making a point-and-click FMV game for Ludum Dare. You did itβ€”it's amazing. πŸ‘

philstrahl 2026-10-26 01:22 ♥ 1

@digital-bacon Wonderful, thanks for letting me know! And yes, I already drafted a design document for an expanded version 🀫

@jiri-hysek Yay, glad you found that pesky pixel! It makes me very happy that you enjoyed it. I am refactoring my framework and adding stuff to it for a longer and more complete version.

@fifut I guess someone had to make it πŸ˜… And it fit the theme so well, presentation-wise, so I thought I give it a shot. I am currently working on an expanded version!
