Nice you deserve my ratings!
Wow I really love your take on the theme! It's super interesting and unique! I had fun playing it! The "End Turn" button took me a while to find. The semi-transparent wall can be a bit hard to tell unless zooming in enough.
It's funny that the drill ability confused me for quite some time until the underneath floor is revealed. But that twist is such a highlight of this game! Also great execution since there're quite many systems to be in place in order to make this "drilling" mechanic shine.
I really enjoyed the game. I liked the upgrading system and the overall feel of the turn-based combat. Sadly, the game would freeze for me completely around the 4th floor (I've tried a few times, always leaading to the same result), completely unresponsive, with no way to progress, which is unfortunate, because that was the part where it started to get challenging. The art and music were very solid though, and besides these crashes, the gameplay was engaging as well.
Pretty fun tactics game. The units offered a good range of abilities, especially once you start getting the upgrades. Thought the drilling down mechanic was a super cool twist on the theme, I liked how it let me position my units in anticipation of the next floor. Although, it was sorta annoying to move my units around at the end of each floor since the paladin and mage have such low movement. Feels like you might as well get infinite movement range once all the enemies on the floor are dead. Also, ran into a crash twice after a few floors which prevented me from progressing. But overall really enjoyed this one. Nice work!
@aizomon Thanks - are you playing on a high resolution screen by any chance? (UI scaling is hard :P)
@pauldee427 Huh, I hadn't seen that... although I think the game crashes when you win (by clearing the 5th level - with the 4 exploding barrels), So congrats for beating the game! I'll try and fix that bug, it didn't happen when I cheated my way to victory for testing :P
@superpokeunicorn Thanks, the abilities were quite the feature creep! Good idea with the increased movement upon level clearing. You are also able to buy more 'movement points' in the upgrade menu, but I appreciate that's not very clear!
Thank you everyone for playing & giving feedback!
@ciaranw Aha yes. I'm using 3840x2160.
Very intereting strategy game,it was a bit confusing to play at first but it started to get fun later once I figured it out. also really really like the drawings for some reason lol Great job making the game, looking forward for your next work!
Wow, there are so much great ideas in this one, the whole drilling down to go to next level is very innovative and great use of the theme! And destructible environment is also a nice touch. I like the whole mspaint aesthetic with cool wizard in sunglasses.And the gameplay is fun. But the game is also lack polish unfortunately. The player onboarding is almost non-existent, the upgrade menu is confusing and it's difficult to buy new abilities sometimes. The multi-level map can be quite disorienting and the squad health is not displayed when some of the members are wounded. 2 characters have quite low movement range initially. And game crashed for me on a 4th level (i think). I tried to decent the whole group at once. And i found an animal noises? in soundtrack a bit annoying.
I think it is very ambitious that the team created a whole tactical RPG strategy for the game jam, with update mechanics and interesting twist on the formula, but i also feel that the scope maybe was just too much for the timeframe and that resulted in game being unfocused and unpolished somewhat. I really hope the team will not be discouraged by my feedback (and the fact that they may potential not get 20 ratings, but i hope they will) and will create more projects in the future!
@livelypersimmon Thanks! We have a mish-mash of drawings in there, given the time constraints! Glad you liked it
@mod-wiz Thanks very much for the detailed feedback! We definitely went too big on scope for this one, and I was trying a new tool for writing the code (Cursor + Claude LLM AI), which was very tricky to use well, and made it very difficult to polish at the end since the codebase was such an unfamiliar mess. This is an 'extra' game, so I don't think we get ranked even if we do get 20 ratings - we're just doing this for the feedback, so thank you very much for your comment!
Interesting game. Nice to see an XCOM-like game in the jam. Good effort.
