I dug up all the blocks and they didn't give me a single resource. But I did notice that the blocks were not hanging in the air, they were collapsing.
Simple, but very neat. Cave collapsing is indeed fun
Fun, love some good game physics!
There surely were resources and the cave did collapse, but so far it feels like 20% of some core game loop. It would somewhat work if the player's ability to interact was limited to the blocks accessible from the outside but right now you can interact with anything anywhere and completely avoid the challenge
Not really sure how the collapse mechanic works, so there was not much planning to do 🤔 I just went and mined every resource block, and the top of the mountain was still there.
I happened to mine a full row and then I saw how the collapsing goes. But maybe it's missing a lose condition. Perhaps having a "height marker" and if your mountain gets smaller than that, then you lose? Maybe that was the idea all along, but we all know how time constraints can affect our games! 😅
I would've loved to mine many blocks by holding the mouse click, that would make it more easy for things to collapse as well.
Could use shop, but looks interesting. I see there is some system where you automatically get blocks that you mined around so I think I mined out whole map by removing bottom blocks.
Cool idea and I really like the cave collapsing mechanic, but I definitely agree with @aurelius and feel like the game is a bit too easy and lacks a goal. However, I believe this game could be very easily expanded upon and you have discovered a very interesting core mechanic. Great effort and I hope you continue to work on this!
You can make a great game out of this, work on improving the mechanics of collapses so that not all the ore disappears, and there is a point and possibility to avoid them) for example, the area would be flooded and it would be necessary to scoop it out with a bucket) something like that, in short. And so your game is essentially a toy from which you can make a good game simply by adding rules!
Pretty nice concept but I did not understand where was the challenge of the game. Is there a success end or game over ?
Hello guys! @aurelius @deadcode @maybeagoose @jacky-san @broco you are all absolutely right, the game does not feel complete, this was due to me losing all my progress for technical reasons mid-way through the game jam and having to start over and due to my lack of experience but since this was my first Ludum Dare I really wanted to get something out no matter what. My initial idea was to have you buy structures to give stability to the ground and add a more strategic element to the game, but since the time was short I ended up just making it so you play for a high score where you must get all the ores while collapsing the least dirt possible, and if you collapse an ore you do not get it. Either way, thank you all very much for the feedback that is much appreciated since I plan on expanding this into a full game!
Impressive graphics and style!.
First of all, I think the color palette for this was very well made. I also found the core loop to be more fun than I expected. I do think the cave in system would benefit from a visual cue. Additionally, I think implementing audial cues would make the game feel more lively. You've got a good base of a game down, though. Good job!
