Wonderful experience; Great vibe - even though I beat the actual chess game pretty quickly, the narrative still kept me engaged. Great job!
Interesting visual style. Good!
Really like the style. Modifying pieces and rules is pretty cool. Neat spin on the theme.
Though, it would be nice to have a playable web version.
I really liked the gameplay concept here. I would've liked to have gotten into a sandbox where I could play with it a bit faster, though that would have taken away from the mood you were creating. I really, really, wish there were a web-embedded version. Reminded me a bit of games like 5D Chess With Alternate Universe Time Travel. Would be interested to see more of this gameplay idea.
Attaching Bloodlust to Pawns is OP!
I appeared to softlock the game by beating Wyatt too quickly. It was on the scene where you find out that he is studying religion.
Nice aesthetic.
@hubol Thanks for letting me know! The softlock should hopefully be fixed now.
I didn't know that I like playing chess, before this game.
I love it! When I lose the "at the end of the game", the game continues replay the speech sounds and the next game button doesn't work. Is it a bug or something else?
I thought this was a really lovely way to tell a story! Playing through all of the different boards Wyatt throws you I think made it feel a little more personal than you could get with just a film or short story -- shows how interactive art is kind of its own medium. And the game didn't care whether or not you won or lost the chess game, that was part of the story too (sometimes you'd win against Wyatt, and sometimes not).
Played version 0.6, and I never got to add abilities to my own pieces, all that shows up on my screen between matches were the new powers and "skip" but not my own pieces:

I'm running it via Wine on Linux, so could be a problem on my end. But honestly, it didn't detract from the story at all, so not a big deal, just meant I lost some of the later matches to Wyatt's insane armies.
The subtle art and music changes were lovely, and the narration was really good. The whole experience gave me The Beginner's Guide vibes (one of my favorite games). Thanks for making this!
Awesome art!.
And it's a COMPO??? It feels so polished, personal, interesting and beautiful!! Loved listening to you, really understood your take on the theme, it really felt like a little journey! And your take on chess is amazing too, it felt new! What an amazing entry, can't wait to see your next one!
i love the art! very very cute
Incredible game! I wish I found this earlier when I had more time but I enjoyed it a lot, very creative.
I’m in love with the graphics and congrats on the really nice concept that I felt fresh. Good job
Great entry! I love the art, the music, the voice acting. The piano ending is fun :) Really enjoyed it. Thanks =)
Chrome is flagging the file as suspicious when I try to download it :(
Can you add a web version in the future? I'm curious to try this.
Nice story and I liked the chess :) glad to see this before ratings end! I very much echo what sudocoffee said about this being a way to convey something about a story that words alone couldn't really achieve, I thought it was really great.
(and I also had the issue with the upgrades system they described, and I'm on a normal windows 10 machine, in case you are going to keep bug squashing after the jam)
I really liked your chess piece changing mechanics, it was really good! Paper look of the game really sells it, looks nice! I'm not English native so it was a bit tough to listen without subtitles  Nice entry!
