404 not found itch

jk5000 2025-04-07 10:54

Remember to make the itch page public.

iluvatar 2025-04-07 10:57

Yep, sorry the Itch isn't working.

dios 2025-04-07 11:15

The game seemed quite complicated, BUT the mechanics of controlling the squads are very interesting!

kukatoo 2025-04-07 12:16

As others have said, fix the itch link!

lintfordpickle 2025-04-07 12:57

@onngd, @jk5000 , @dios, @kukatoo, @iluvatar - sorry, went straight to bed after finishing yesterday and didn't realize I had to make the page public :S - thanks for the heads-up!

palerus7 2025-04-07 13:29

pretty buggy, you can still place blocks with left click; and you can get yourself softlocked way too easy... But i really like the idea and i think it would be fire if you polished some stuff! ^^

jk5000 2025-04-07 13:31

The game feels a bit unfinished, but the idea is super fun, and I had fun trying it. And I love the games visual style.

lintfordpickle 2025-04-07 13:38

@palerus7 thanks for the heads-up, I uploaded the wrong version (with debug level builder). As syou guessed, you shouldn't be able to change the levels as you go :D I'll update the page now

iluvatar 2025-04-07 13:58

I like the idea and the design is REALLY GOOD, honestly. But I understand it is hard to finish something like this in 2 days, so no hate for that. It's a compo so natually not easy to do from scratch :)

Even though I experienced a few bugs, like walking into walls, and Im not sure if me clicking/building walls was part of the gameplay or it was left by you for testing purposes, but it was still fun.

The soldiers were fighting really well, and that mechanic worked good. I think the only problem I encountered was that miners didn't really mine, they were just walking into my character.

Don't worry my friend, it's still a great game for a jam!

lintfordpickle 2025-04-07 14:26

@iluvatar Thanks for playing. Yeah, placing blocks was not supposed to be in the game (that was my 'level-editor') and I had a few hiccups last night uploading - uploaded the wrong build and forgot to make the page public :D

I enjoyed the process of making this game, but the actual gameplay is not really enjoyable. The lack of direct controls of the units make playing this game a pain. But this is why I do the ludum dare, to try new things.

Have fun with the rest of the event.

iluvatar 2025-04-07 14:31

@lintfordpickle Don't worry about that! And exactly like you said, it's about the process and learning new things. There is nothing to win, it's just about the experience :)

bnwcreator 2025-04-07 22:37

The game didn't launch, sadly

ibandurist 2025-04-07 23:04

This game has a lot of potential, and I really like the idea behind it! The concept of managing a band of dwarves to collect gold while dealing with enemies and various challenges is engaging. The different dwarf types—melee, archers, and diggers—add a nice layer of strategy, and I can see how this could evolve into something really fun with more polish.

However, there are some issues that need attention. The game feels a bit buggy, especially with the miner dwarves, who don't seem to mine properly and instead just walk into the commander. I also experienced a few moments of softlocking and the ability to place blocks, which I assume wasn’t intended.

I understand the time constraints of a jam, so I’m not holding these bugs against the game, but I think with a bit more time, fixing these issues and fine-tuning the mechanics would make this a really enjoyable experience. The visual style is great, and the idea is solid—just needs some polishing! Keep it up!

The mechanic of controlling a colony is interesting, it's fun. This game have a good potential and you've done a good work in these 2 days. Good job !

lintfordpickle 2025-04-08 19:47

@ibandurist I was aware of a couple of those problems, and made a post jam update to fix some of them: placing blocks should not be allowed and there were errors in my coordinate calculations.

_"I also experienced a few moments of softlocking"_

I'm not sure what causes the soft locking - I will have to check this.

thanks for playing, and giving a detailed write up. p.s. your game looks great from the screenshots, I'm off to play it now

shiheuan 2025-04-09 02:21

It's really hard to make the AI of the troops run smoothly within such a short period of time. I think you must have put in a lot of work. I like your idea, very good.

lintfordpickle 2025-04-09 05:38

@shiheuan The 'ai' was a little finnicky to get working, and it'S quite annoying sometimes, but it kinda works.

Thanks for playing and leaving a comment!

Cool little game reminded me of the golden age of flash games. Graphics, sfx and idea are very good :100: I think if ally AI cared more about my input then their will it'd be more fun. Now the melee dudes just go berserk when they see an enemy, and die. Also smaller collision with allies would be nice, it's a lot of time loss when you have a crowded group. Very good entry overall

I really like the concept , very ambitious for a compo game! I struggled a fair bit trying to avoid the gobbos , who insisted on following me to the shop / gold-storage area. Would be cool if that part had a door or something you could hide the dwarfs away in, and the enemy would then lose interest and return to the caves. Would then be a bit easier to build up the numbers of the dwarf party before tackling the deeper recesses of the cave.

Great job, the sounds were authentic
