I really liked it and feel like this has potential! But the unfortunately i didnt get to the end, it became a bit annoying that tthe bugs started without seemingly no indication, when i didnt have a clear path. Then again im not the greatest at these types of puzzle games :)

dropmania 2024-10-07 09:51

Really cool idea! I think it would have been good for the player being able to control when the bugs start running. I didnt beat it. But I'm also really bad at these type of games :D

grut607 2024-10-07 16:11

The game is pretty good but the sounds are very loud, if they could be adjusted it would be great

wren-erickson 2024-10-07 17:36

Really liked it, however I found myself getting a little annoyed that I couldn't move pieces well after the beetles came out, that made it feel quite clunky. Overall I love the idea, art, and music

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I wanted to add many balancing features around the bugs spawning but the as always the deadline came before I could.

Nice game. Visually looking good and the music gives a nice bright upbeat mood (it is quite loud though). Didn't really know what "start" button was mapped to but figured it out pretty quickly.

I am not a fan of the automatic deployment of ladybugs because that means I lose control and can't take my time to think and try. Instead, if you wanted to force them and limit player action, one way could be to trigger them after X player action or by increasing the deployment time.

I did not finish the first level. Probably could have with enough time but patience wasn't with me today.

Good work.

The concept here is really cool, like a cross between pipe mania and a rubik's cube. The early levels were a bit harder than the later levels, just because they were less likely to have the ideal pieces I needed. And the game could have been a lot shorter (for a game jam environment). But it was cool getting the hang of shifting pieces around to build my setup.

My strategy for each level:

- Step one, block the entrance so the beetles don't get in my way while I'm configuring the map.

- Step two, locate all the straight horizontal pieces. If there aren't enough to fill the width of the map, then I'll have to add 4 corners for every two spaces I'm missing. There were a couple times I had a three-space-gap, and had to use 6 corners plus a vertical piece to fill it.

- Step three, build the structure I need, but offset by one so that it's easy to shift it in place, but still keeps the beetles out.

- Step four, shift everything in place, and put on my sunglasses, because my beetles are going home for dinner tonight. (⌐■_■)

Would be very nice to either have a certain "move" limit before the bugs start going out or a nice start button to tell the buttons to go out. Cute games with the bugs

rufenerd 2024-10-12 22:23

Hard, but fun!

loveapplegames 2024-10-12 22:27

Pretty addictive slide puzzle game. Graphics are cute, controls are effective. The way the bugs interrupt gameplay seems a little pointless though. As soon as the bugs appear, you cannot slide properly, and sometimes you have to wait until they all die until you can continue. Once you get the path right, you get 3 stars, even though you let the bugs die 10 times. I've never had some of the bugs stay alive. Either they all die or they all live.

This was quite hard, but was pretty fun to play! well done!

The best jam game I've played today, it is well-polished, the puzzle is self-explained and easy to start with. I enjoy this game.

sdcorpse 2024-10-14 00:52

Its difficult but is very nice too!

sasha20 2024-10-14 00:53

It’s an exciting game with a unique take on the topic and good visuals to match. God Job!

thaprofesional 2024-10-14 11:34

Clean and consistent graphics, really solid game-play and tons of levels. This was amazing.

Not being able to spawn the bugs / try out a level on demand was a bit rough. 'Cause of this I got stuck with them running around a lot and it took me AGES to beat it (but I did). Luckily the music is an absolute certified banger so it was really easy to jam out and keep playing.

albionbrown 2024-10-14 12:42

I had fun with this one! Stretched my brain hard on a monday! I agree with being able to respawn bugs faster. But it gave a bit more urgency this way to get blocks sorted before they started.

desibragg 2024-10-14 13:25

This puzzle game is amazing. The graphics are simple and vibrant. The game play is fun engaging. I enjoyed playing your game. Great job!

ruthiepee 2024-10-15 14:13

This is the most polished compo game I've seen this LD. Very beautifully executed -- I especially like the fonts and would love to know what they are if you're willing to share. :) I am really bad at these types of games so I wish you could configure the board and then press play on the ladybugs but I guess that takes away the challenge haha

bentglasstube 2024-10-15 16:00

@ruthiepee the font is bubblegum from DamienG - https://damieng.com/typography/zx-origins/bubblegum/

Hey! You created your game engine too. That's great!

It reminds me of the board game "Labyrinth", I love the idea. It's just a little annoying to have to hit Enter every time my beetles die while I was building the path. I wonder if the game would have been the same with no beetle at all. There would just be a timer, telling the player how long it took to create the path (then, if you want, you can add a nice animation with beetles taking the finished path).

Are there levels where we are obliged to change the path while the beetles are moving? It happened to me a couple of times (especially the level 12 which doesn't have enough horizontal tiles). But maybe I could have been smarter and could have created a "static" path.

By the way, here is my victory screenshot.

bentglasstube 2024-10-15 23:42

@loveapplegames It is possible to save only some of the bugs if you keep moving the tiles after they are walking around. You only get three stars for saving all the bugs.

@recher it is always possible to build a static path, but it can be faster and/or simpler on the bigger levels to destroy the start of the path to finish the end.

I agree with all the feedback about the bugs being annoying and coming too quickly. Initially, the entire level was regenerated if the bugs died, but that made the game very difficult. I planned to fix this by having a longer delay before the bugs appeared but I wanted to implement a "fast forward" button before I did that. In the interest of making the game somewhat approachable, I changed it to not regenerate the level when you lost which gives the strange experience of having to press enter.

I love the concept for this game, and the music and visuals are all top-notch, but I couldn't get past the second level. Like a lot of other people, I felt the difficulty was just too high. I agree with loveapplegames above, the marching beetles made my controls get locked up in ways I couldn't anticipate, but since the board didn't reset or randomize, it felt like my goal was just to make a straight path from the start to the end, while being interrupted at the most inopportune time by the marching beetles.

stmate03 2024-10-23 12:35

The concept is clean and fun, I love puzzle games so I had much fun, like how the game doesn't hard reset but let you keep thinking on your previous failure, actively forcing you to evolve it till you win, graphics are simple, charming, and clean, and this game might have 1 music but it's an absolute banger! Awesome game!
