Fantastic entry, and a surprisingly difficult boss fight. Loved the dave the diver/souls references. Had to keep playing until I beat him! Great artwork and sfx/music
I had a nice time playing! The beginning reminded me a bit about Ecco (the dolphin), with all the protagonists' friends kidnapped. I also needed a few tries to defeat the boss (which is good, since it's most of the playable part). It was fun trying to find the right timing and distance to attack and dodge. Nice job! :)
(side note: the windows version works well on debian linux using wine staging)
Funny game! I liked it!
Fun game! hard boss fight but still cool
Fun game! Dave the Diver has competition... Nice job
The vibrant underwater world immediately drew me in, with its stunning visuals and immersive atmosphere. πβ¨ The unique mechanics really set it apart, making gameplay both engaging and enjoyable. I loved the references to "Dave the Diver" and "Souls," which added an extra layer of depth to the experience.
The boss fight was surprisingly challenging! π I found myself fully invested, needing several attempts to conquer it, which only added to the thrill. The combination of strategy and timing in attacking and dodging made each attempt rewarding. π―
Additionally, the artwork and sound effects complemented the gameplay perfectly, enhancing the overall experience. πΆ I couldn't help but feel nostalgic, especially when the story unfolded, reminiscent of classic titles like "Ecco the Dolphin." π¬
Overall, this game is a fantastic entry for the Ludum Dare, showcasing impressive creativity and skill. Keep up the great work! ππ
@sviborg I'm sensing feedback from chatgpt. Did YOU play the game? (I played and liked your Flea Patrol)
Hey there, nice submission! Agree with a lot of the previous comments. One major thing I'd add for Quality of life: Having some kind of delay on when you can take damage. Having the boss slowly waddle in to you and you die from full health cause you're stuck in an attack animation is brutal. Canceling the attack, damaging you once, and giving you some immunity so you can flee would certainly make the times you do make mistakes feel better. Also found it humorous that you could still attack on the You Died screen  But I thought the references to the other games were great, the sound and music added to the amusement and overall feel you were going with on the game, so it came together really well. Good work!
Wow. Surprisingly good! It had an engaging story with fun writing. I have to imagine the weapon attack delay was intentional, considering the dark souls expert! One had to be precise with each attack, picking the right timing, distance and angle! Impressive stuff.
Love that you encourage younger ones to create! We also had some younger ones on our team! 16 and 18 year old artists. We also made an underwater game like you! :D How fun!
@t-c Thank you! Agree on the boss mechanism/hit registration. Simply ran out of time to do it in a way we would have liked to. The boss fight is full rng and the hit mechanism is not great. But it works, so "ship it" :D (Opted to spend the last hour to make the music for the win and lose screens instead.)
@langotriel Thank you so much. Your underwater adventure was amazing!
I am always a fan of funny writing! Really heartwarming to see this was a family project :) Kudos!
Nice short game. The intro isn't necessary IMO and it's best to be replaced by regular levels to let player get used to controls and the blade.
This game is SO dramatic!
