I normally use a trackball and this game was just way too hard with that. I enjoyed the audio immensely, though, so I dug up an old mouse and played and it was well worth it. The mechanics are repetitive but not to the point of boredom. I really enjoyed paging through the notes to find what to do. I am very satisfied that I now possess the great knowledge of the eye. Well done.

Lol that ending ruled. Best laugh from any game I've played so far.
Mechanics-wise, this would make for a really fun horror game! The stress as you try to get each ingredient would really work well.
I wish there was a better way to scroll to the right work. It got a bit annoying having to scroll down the entire list.
@bentglasstube Greatly appreciate your comments! Thanks for playing and please tell others (but do not reveal the secret of the Eye!)
@jnw Hey, I'm thrilled you liked it :) Thanks so much for giving it a try. I agree, the scrolling and general UI of the ingredient list would be better with a scrollbar.

thank you @pedryx for playing it and your nice comments :)

The atmosphere in the game is great! Also, I love the whole concept. Sadly I was unable to win and after few tries I gave up. For me most of the patterns are just not doable. The focus circle is moving too fast for me to keep up (but I never was good at games of this type). And going through whole list of words is also slowing player down quite a bit, but I get implementing a search function is a bit much to ask for a game jam :D Anyway, good job with the game!
Thanks @zimny11 for playing the game and your comments :)
I couldn't figure out how to play this game after reading all the instructions. I right clicked and got it to say "focus" and then a ball started floating around. The focus bar never grow and I didn't get a word. The instructions say to do something with the left button, but I couldn't figure it out. Is something broken or did I just not figure out the controls?
@tod-semple thanks for trying it out. When you hold right after "FOCUS" appears, you need to get the cursor inside the floating ball. Keep the cursor inside it and the focus bar will grow until the first summoning word appears.

This was cool and quite unique! Very difficult. I was about to give up on my fifth try, when I miraculously made it with five seconds to spare. Truly I was blessed by the Eye.
From the screen ratio I assume this was mainly meant for a touch screen and it must be a lot easier on one. Most of the focus circles were way too fast for me using a regular mouse. But I kept reclicking and hoping for a slower one.
Really nice audio with the chanting. Nice contrast in the graphics. Sprites were a bit mixed, I feel. Nice feedback when you complete an incantation. But the main draw is the gameplay itself :)
This game is definitely one that calls for actual pen and paper. I liked that. I was bamboozled on my second try by the fact that it was randomised, but that's good. I seemed to inevitably take almost two minutes at the beginning every time just to jot down what I needed to do, so that made the actual focussing and chanting all the more stressful.
I would've liked it if I were able to type instead. Flipping through the words was very slow and sometimes I accidentally selected the word when I just wanted to move over to the other arrow and go back because I went too far. But again given this seems to have been mobile/tablet first I get why it is the way it is. But it would've evened things out a bit I feel: easier to focus on mobile, easier to chant on regular computer.
Of course the ending made me laugh! Overall this one was really cool, well done :)
Thanks a lot for your detailed and kind feedback. @ava-skoog :) Great comments and yeah typing would have been probably better. Couldn't try on mobile.

At first I thought the game was too difficult because sometimes the "FOCUS area" was moving too fast (for me); but I am glad I have managed to finish it. I really appreciate that everything was done by you; pretty nice voice acting. The game mechanics were fun and interesting.
There are some good ideas here that I think fumbled on the execution. Focusing is near impossible for me, both due to the difficult patterns of the circle, and the length of the timer you need to fill. I think it's an interesting concept, but I never managed to get more than an object or 2 summoned in the time limit. I think the object summoning is well-implemented, magic words corresponding to each object is a good idea and I didn't mind the alphabetical system. I do think the instructions for where to place the objects on the pentagram would have helped but I mostly figured it out. The graphics, audio, and general atmosphere are wonderful, however, and *really* sell the vibe you were going for. I think with a few tweaks this could be really interesting!
@rugg hey, thanks for your kudos! Nice that you managed to finish it :)
@mathstr0fficial thanks for your comments! I agree focusing was a bit too hard. I think some people managed to finish it given the fact the curves are random (within some parameter ranges) and some of them are slower than others (if you want to give it another try, and there's a pattern that is too hard, simply let go off the RMB and try again).
I was able to barely finish on my second attempt. The first time it took me a few minutes to figure out what I was supposed to do, I thought the circle in the instructions was referring to the summoning circle. Having a bit more visual feedback like particles or a color change when you're inside the focus circle might have helped make that more clear. I actually found the difficulty of focusing to be about right for me. It's difficult enough that I was forced to actually focus to do it and it's almost meditative, especially with the mood set by the sound effects. I'm a (not very good) osu player which maybe helped me a bit with it. The sound design is impressive and I loved the ending. Nice work!
@kaliuresis thanks for your kind comments and suggestions! :)
Incredible game, really enjoyed playing it
Very nice game overall. It's well balanced in general and the explanation is good (although it's a long process to understand in one or two try). For the downside of the game, I think the game have too many words for incantations, I was just spamming to look for the good one. Some tracking patterns are way too hard/fast (it's quicker to skip them for me at least). And last thing, I never found how to use "Vocare", I don't know where it is or how I'm supposed to find it.
But I really enjoyed the game ! The sound desing and the game visuals are great, it was a cool experience.
Great mood on this one! It's definitely a little cryptic, but I think that people tend to have low patience for jam games, since they don't know if it'll end up being 'worth it' in the end. That being said, it does explain a lot, and you can definitely figure the rest out with a little thought. I think the crypticness adds the the atmosphere and experience, personally. The only thing is I didn't see "vocare" as a valid word on the chant list... Is it somewhere else?
@hollowtsun thanks for playing it! Yeah, probably too many words. Also, Vocare will automatically pop up instead of the usual words, when you have all items summoned and correctly placed on the appropriate pentagram spots. Best
@dreamcastgh0st thanks for your comments and playing it! As stated above, Vocare will automatically pop up instead of the usual words, when you have all items summoned and correctly placed.
