Nice to see a full on 3rd person game, when it is in Ludum Dare 3d it is almost always locked camera!
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD55 → Book of the Ghosts

Nice to see a full on 3rd person game, when it is in Ludum Dare 3d it is almost always locked camera!
The ambiance is pretty cool and the first scream really got me. At a moment I had a lot of screams happening at the same time and had to remove my headset because of the sound :(
I like the game. The emptiness adds to the atmosphere, the constant chase adds to the horror, and the menu music is really nice to listen to. But it can be a bit hard to remember the spell colors before casting. But still, overall a nice game
I liked that the character almost looked like a ghost themselves, made me wonder about their backround. When I ran on my second try I didn't encounter any ghosts on the way which was a bummer.
@etwu Yes, I noticed this bug lately, there is a reload button which is also not so reliable at the moment but after pressing the reload and then start it is supposed to work (or reloading the page is a solution). I was so out of time (and I made it alone), I focused on the main logic to work and this bug just slipped in the code. Anyway thanks for noticing!
It is hard to play without mouse, because I can't see around
Interressing approach, could be further expanded on.
The sounds can get repetitive realy fast, but for a LdJam they are good.
You do not have to fight any ghosts, at least on normal. I wanted to test more, but somehow the mouse is no longer captured properly. I can no longer turn around. If you have the time to do some changes, I would recommend a stamina system. As of now you can simply run the entire time and scale all vallies with spamming jump.
But what bugged me the most, was strangly, that there is no start button in the home tab
i love the visuals! the game felt a little easy, the ghosts were way slower than my running speed so i just ignored them and headed for the book. also i noticed if you spam jump while running into a steep slope you can just keep jumping all the way to the top
I really liked the visuals and the sound effects. But I had a lot of issues rotating the player, and this made the game nearly impossible to play.
I was just chillin minding my own business, then like 487 ghosts rolled up and were like EEEYYAAARRRRGGGHHHHHRRRRLLLGGGHHHHBBBLLLKKKTHHHGGGPPTT!!!!!!!!!
I eventually found the book and won, but I didn't register what "the beam" was at first. Maybe some type of HUD marker to let people know what they're looking for. I kept trying to follow the bridges and ran in a circle about 10 times before I figured out where I was going.
As for repeating sounds, look into pitch shifting them randomly, it can help a lot in a jam to break up everything sounding exactly the same.
Pretty fun little game, has a lot of potential for improvements! Good job!
The shading was really cool. Reminded me a bit of Borderlands. Having to deal with a group of ghosts that is changing color after every spell was challenging so good job! ^^
Atmospheric with a haunting vibe, enhanced by effective use of sound and visuals. However, the game struggles with some mechanics and control issues that can frustrate players. Ghost interactions and mobility mechanics need refining for smoother gameplay.
the movement was very smooth and I really liked the artstyle, especially since there aren't so many 3D games in the jam. I only found it a bit too easy, but otherwise that's a very nice game!
I love the cartoon effect :D The background sounds also add a lot to the atmosphere!
I don't really understand how spells are shooting (seems to explode just in front of me). So just ran to the book and come back.
Good work anyway. Souls world renders well. It's the start to something.
The shaders look fantastic. Despite some camera issues, gameplay is quite nice. Also the color based attack concept is a nice touch. Good job!
I love how the shaders were made, I like the artistic choices that feel extremely intentional, which is hard to do in 3D and in this short time frame.
Ghosts was surprisingly not that common in a summoning jam, it baffles me. The atmosphere is interesting, the movement is smooth and interesting and the camera is trustworthy. I also found that same bug discussed in the comments, but managed to beat it regardless.
Also the sounds and music just make the mood work, it is hard to see an entry where I see myself saying that a mood was achived, but this is exactly what you guys nailed here. It should have a warning to be played with headphones, it is worth it!
