Ha Ha .. When the ' you got x ' I thought I understood. Played it again and made different (now well thought I guessed) actions and failed again! ha ha .. my brain does not work anymore after this weekend. Interesting game since it really differs (I don't say that is bad or good ) I might be trying later when I'm more rested to figure it out!
That was hilarious! I loved the sounds effects. I tried writing notes down, but really had no idea what was going on, so I just guessed at the end (3 out of 6). It certainly nailed the feeling of cramming for a test and knowing none of the material.
This felt very real. Trying to understand somethink, and then failing the test spectacularly  The video could use some sound when the little man in the corner was talking. Just some muffled sims-speak could do just as well. That would give the game a bit more polish I think :-)
Congratz on your first LD entry btw!
@wouter52 There is sound! I mumbled into my headset with a fishtank buzzing in the background. I wonder why you didn't hear it? Did you hear the clock ticking?
Oooh yea I cranked up the volume and then I heard faint mumbling! I think the ticking of the clock drowned it out a bit then. I turned the volume down because of that the first time
What just happened...
After drawing everywhere on the menu and passing the test, I got the wonderful note of... 0! I guess I had all the right answers but in the wrong order.
Good job! I tried to understand something by exploring the source code but you exported the scenes to binary!
i was a bad student! quite hard to decipher the underlying puzzle, but an interesting idea : )
This gave me some unpleasantly accurate flashbacks to college. This was a really unique take on the theme. I managed to get 4/6, but I don't know that my scrawled notes were all that helpful. It still felt like I was kind of guessing. I suppose I still don't understand the Voynich language. Thanks for making me feel like an unprepared student again!
Oh my goodness, a great simulation of how short/long 2 minutes can feel when trying to cram in some gibberish with no chance of remotely understanding what's going on :D I love what you put together here, very different from what I'd expect from a jam game :D
I had to play through it several times in order to figure it out. Very tricky!
- try1: I picked cat picture as left category as it was left in video, and I got 0 legs and 4 legs correct - try2: I noticed that the video had the not-down category for cat and plant, so I picked cat as not-down category - try3: I noticed that the teacher said the sequence did NOT go 1 2 3 4 5, and instead goes 1 2 3 4 10 11 and I got beetle correct - try4: I realized that the picture section was defining a general category of alive, and I got that part correct
It's a nice short game, and I like that by replaying it I am able to better understand the language, including the fact that this is the 101 version of the course, and that we don't know if eggs are alive or not.
My only suggestion would be to maybe add the ability to rewind or skip ahead in the video to let the player re-watch part of it.
@almost Wow, I didn't expect anyone to go through that many times! Congratulations on figuring it all out!
I was implementing scrubbing in the video just as my time ran out. I was going to add in a buffering period that got longer and longer the more the player skipped around, lightly penalising them for re-watching the same scenes multiple times. There was also going to be a third part in the lecture about colours and the curious way the Voynich used them, but again, time.
