Great little soundtrack for this and the animations were hella smooth. Critique would be that the jump didn't feel super responsive and slightly floaty. GG

@osh-studio Thanks! A lot of people told me about the unresponsive jump. There was no time to solve the problems with the jump because of the time spent on music and visual, but in places where it was difficult to jump, I added additional blocks for acceleration (except for places where the hard-long-jump is a player challenge). :v:
Really cool and fun, and i like the graphics style (and the small movement of camera). Maybe you can add a restart button when we are lost or block in the level, this can be add a dynamic.
@robowarrior1982 Thanks for the feedback. I made the **restart** button in the **upper right corner**. "The customer is always right!"
This is a great entry. It looks great and the music was well placed. Great sound and stage design. The jump was kind of wonky when it came to edges and stair-like platforms though. All in all I enjoyed it.
@stalemeat Thank you for your comment! The jump is really **unstable**. :smirk:
@osh-studio and @stalemeat I rewrote the **ground detection system** a bit and now it's much easier to jump from the edges. :cookie:
The game is super, quite difficult. Beautifully decorated)
Amazing soundtrack for this and the animations quite nice. My only gripe as mentioned before would be that the jump didn’t feel responsive and enough. But good game overall!
Love the visuals. Is it a reference to the old ZX Saboteur game? изображение_2021-10-05_191842.png
Could not find the third flask on the level with thre flasks. Some kind of tps to flask whereabouts would be great. Also, why force gameover when you touch the door without enough flasks? Maybe you still can return and get them.
Nice sound and graphics looks nice together :)
@baturinsky Thank you for your feed back  No, this is not a reference to the "ZX Saboteur" game. I tried to arrange the flasks in such a way that their location was obvious or noticeable when passing through the level linearly. :v:
@bassilij @biku Thanks! :smile:
The overall presentation here is spot-on. Great animations, art, music, sound. It felt great to run and jump around. Gameplay-wise I think this is really thematic. It did get a little frustrating how randomly the flask would pop out, like sometimes I would grab it and drop it the same instant. A nice addition if you keep going might be some kind of "drop risk" meter that increases as you run/jump/etc--just a thought. It took me awhile to find the third flask on the second level, a little strange having to jump over the level exit door to get to it. I'm sure that was intentional on your part but a lot of players might not make that intuitive leap, haha. Anyway, this is a really cool and thematic game and it's very polished and well-done. Kudos!
@polymathld Thank you for such a great review. Now I will make a small level edit so that the flask can be seen near the door
Nice graphics, pretty good controls. Took a while for me to find the reset button. Was not too clear if it is bad to loose the flasks or not. Sometimes it felt a little annoying that they would slip out somewhere I couldn't reach and thus had to restart.
@surfa Thank you for your feedback. I changed the **labels of the tutorial** on the first level to make it clearer to understand the rules. I moved the restart button to the **upper left corner** and **highlighted** it. Loss of flasks is a **key mechanic** (for the jam theme) and if it is annoying then my idea has failed.
I think they idea is rather interesting, it's just a bit too easy to cheese for it to be super compelling but I was still entertained enough to make it through the levels and then through harder mode. I feel like the lil nugget of design where a flask breaking turns the game from a slow exploration into a manic run for the exit is really fun and could certainly be further explored but there's just a couple of quality of life things that hold it back at the moment.
I think the big one for me is that the jump is really unforgiving considering how tight and blind some of the jumps you have to make are. I'd just extend the grace period after you leave a platform but can still jump so that it feels a bit more responsive. And also the way the door works is really frustrating. There were times a flask dropped as I landed next to the door, and since it's automatic I'd lose the level right as I was about to win. And finally I think the difficulty curve is really uneven, and without a score I don't have a good reason to try and keep a flask alive when I'm right next to the door, so the levels that were just a long hallway with 10-20 flasks were actually the easiest despite being some of the last.
All that aside tho, the aesthetic and presentation are all on point. The retro PS1 graphics, the rock soundtrack and the echoy footsteps and sound effects all add to the experience, this game is definitely a looker. And also bonus point for that effect that happens when you click outside the window, where a faint echo of the song plays before stopping so it's not an abrupt end. Real nice polish.
A real nice entry for the jam, lots of polish and a bold experiment for the theme.
@achehex This is a very cool review. Thanks! I liked your game more than mine
@achehex My mistake (probably) was that I took on too much range of work and spent a lot of time on music and graphics. This jam was the first time I made handmade graphics and my own music (with real Guitar). Because of this, the gameplay suffered :v:
I enjoyed it! I hope you expand on it post-jam, I'd like to see what you would add to this core, the premise is solid and interesting. :) Also congratulations for your first time making handmade graphics (it was my first time as well in this jam) and for the music!
@iacopo Thanks. Probably this project will **not be continued**, because people did **not like** the mechanic of "**constant loss of flasks from the backpack**" at all. And the graphics were made with **special cunning**, but that didn't make it any easier for me. The graphics is converted from **3D to 2D**, but with additional manual processing... in Photoshop... each frame of the animation... I described in the comment above how this eventually affected the gameplay.
Your game is excellent, it gave me a lot of unforgettable emotions!
