Good game and fun puzzle! I like puzzles :)
After finishing the game (going to the last elevator) I got a weird error, but I close the error pop-up before I thought about taking a screenshot :/
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD48 → Bunker

good idea
Btw guys this is my first ever game jam and I am doing this with only 4 months of prior Unity experience, so any constructive feedback would be great.
@zimny11 I set it such that when you get to the last elevator it performs Application.Quit() (basically it is supposed to quit the application). Could that be what was causing the error?
Hm, I have no idea how to get past the biometric scanner.
@thejonu Just click and hold on the green thing long enough
@escapade Ah good to know. Got held up on the biometric scanner too.
Hey that was really fun! You got creative with those puzzle and each time I was surprised about how you managed to come up with something different from the time before. My only bit of feedback is that some sort of game-feel and user responsiveness would be nice. For example when clicking on things there could be a colour change (like the biometric scanner, it took reading your comment above to understand what was going on). Anyway keep up the good work.
I had to come back to the comments for help on the scanner and that last one almost got me. No worries though, I'm a confirmed human! I'm clearly not the smartest human because it took me until the third floor before I realized I could rotate my camera by holding the mouse button down. Although learning the controls was half the battle, this was an interesting take on the theme. Nice game!
Thanks all for the positive comments!
nice puzzle game, good idea, nice job!
@escapade Yes, I guess that was it.
Enjoyed that puzzle! Hope I'll see you next LD!
Very good puzzle approach! Well made too!
Thanks everyone!
Love the concept of the different puzzle on the different floors. Nice work!
I like puzzle games. This is good puzzle game. I like this game. Good job!
Congrats on your first game jam!
Some feedback/suggestions: 1. The drag-and-drop view controls are kinda painful if you're not on a touch-screen device. I think you should use the same mouse-movement based aiming system that every other FPS uses 2. The controls on the wire connection puzzle felt pretty janky. They would just freeze if I moved my mouse too quickly. 3. I think some sound effects could really liven up the game: elevator doors open/close, button presses, toggling black/white squares, scanner scanning, etc. You might be surprised how easy it is to make some of these yourself. 4. I almost quit on the biometric scanner puzzle. I only kept going because I looked in the comments and saw the solution. 5. The final puzzle was definitely the best puzzle.
Neat concept. However, there is bug where you can open doors much wider by clicking many times on the button. As a result the doors will not close in the next levels and you can complete the game in one minute without solving any puzzles. I would also suggest some changes to controls - looking by dragging the screen might get quite annoying. Also last elevator in the bunker didn't go down. I guess I'll die. :/ Overall interesting concept. Good job! :D
Thanks everyone for the feedback.
@simonbw I don't play FPS games so I didn't know about their control system, will definitely keep in mind for future games. I also realised the wire puzzle was problematic, but couldn't figure out how to resolve it. Also, this was my first game jam so I didn't really think about polishing my game that much, which meant my expectations for things like audio were really really low, especially since I had never used audio in Unity before. My focus was more on finishing the floor ideas I had in mind.
@rewzu Thanks for spotting the bug, I will fix it. Also if you download the Windows/Mac version the game would quit if you entered the last elevator, but in the web version it would cause an error (see the first comment), so I simply removed it since rules said I couldn't add any new features.
I really liked the dark humor and the "cold" atmosphere. I think some of controls and feedbacks could be slightly improved, like the biometric scan that would need some early feedback. The last was puzzle was the most interesting.
In my opinion music and sound fx would add much more intensity to the game for a relatively "cheap" development cost, like synthesized voice reading the instructions or mocking the player. You can maybe try this in a post jam version ?
Good entry for your first jam !
Congrats on your first entry. Loved the puzzles. The non conventional first person controler drove me insane.
Thanks for the feedback.
@oddarock I finally got around to shortening the biometric scanner time since a lot of people mentioned it. Other than that, I would definitely modify the controls and add some sound effects but unfortunately the rules said no new features. Given it is my first jam I also didn't have polishing the game at the top of my mind.
@ping78 Sorry for that, I don't play FPS games so I guess I should just keep that in mind for future games.
I actually took my real phone and scanned the qr code :face_palm: But then I thought, huh, how is he able to say that I did that? :face_palm: I like the puzzles, but wires seem to be a little buggy? Or maybe you wanted me to do it "not so fast" :smirk: I love the mood. It gaves me vibes like I'm really trying to enter the bunker and the goverment thought of oh-so-great ways to recognize if I really should be there. Black wall defeated me.
Great submission!
@sandra-jasionowska Nice, I hope you liked what was behind the QR code :smirk: . Anyway, the wires wasn't intended to be like that, but I couldn't figure out how to fix it so I had to leave it at that. Thanks for playing! As for the black wall, the solution is simpler than you think, so keep trying!
This was really fun! The controls are a little weird to get used to, it's pretty much inverted from what most people (I'd assume) are used to. And some sound (maybe just footsteps) would add a lot too. But it's still cool, and pretty funny. I liked it! Gj!
Pretty good game! I don't think that controlling camera rotation by holding a mouse is the best solution (i think better to create switch between look and interact modes). Overall cool game, i enjoyed playing it.
@crispybun Thanks for playing! I inverted the controls now so it should be better.
@zevsehg Thanks for playing! Don't worry you are not the first person to have trouble with the first person controls, I will need to think of something for future games.
Loved it, the humor reminds me of Portal. Ambient background music and sound effects would have helped a little, but since it's in a browser window I just put on my own music
Sometimes interactive elements just wouldn't work for me. It's quite hard to read both walls, there must be a better narrative solution. Interesting entry, anyway.
The part where you need to turn the wall black was really frustrasting, and I couldn't pass that section. Also, the character movement felt too slow. Although, it was a nice game with some interesting puzzles.
Really nice suite of puzzles. :D They were kind of random, but the atmosphere you created with the narrative really tied them together in a way that none of them really felt awkward/out of place. I especially liked the lights out-esque puzzle at the end, though I can see people getting frustrated when coupled with the countdown timer. It might be more accessible to instead have a generic in-game timer as some end score where faster is better- this would reward speedy people without taking away from people who want to appreciate each puzzle. :)
Alright guys, I finally managed to fix the wires problem in Floor 3, now you can move the wires as fast as you wish, probably should have tried to fix it earlier but whatever.
