Was stuck and could not buy a farm. Is this only for me ? Will try again later, seems promising

An interesting idea, and very calming gameplay. The issue is, after the first asteroid impact, I couldn't seem to take most actions, and could not understand why. For example, I could not build a farm, and it was not clear why. I'm not sure the mood of the music suits the narrative framing of the game, although it did match the calm experience of the gameplay.

I too was stuck when having to build the farm. Maybe a lack of resources? The tutorial tells me I have 100 steel, but I only started with 20. Is time supposed to pass, or is it paused because I was still in the tutorial. May check back later, in case the above are bugs :-) . Thanks for sharing.

Sorry, but I didn't understand how to play :) The atmosphere is nice, the music too, the graphics... well, it's there)

I think that a bug results in only the oil put into storage being transferred between loops, making the game basically impossible to win. Also, about half of my runs result in me being unable to create anything, even if I have the resources necessary. (I think you guys over-scoped a bit.) I really appreciate the tutorial though, and the concept is worth exploring.

Hi, thanks for everyone leaving feedback on our game. We really did run out of time towards the end, some bugs with our version control didn't help. People who can't buy a farm, if you feel like giving the game a second chance, make sure you are buying a mine, not an oil rig. Time will stop during the tutorial.

I like the idea. The interface could really use some work though. More info on costs and item numbers would be useful. The steel button to switch mine types was not obvious. Managed to bug out the colonist count so it ended up negative and ticking down rather than up. Also the storage seems broken. Sometimes the stored food value doesn't change, and I have had loads of stored stuff but none of some resources at the start of the next loop. If you build stuff before skipping through the tutorial the game wont start properly.

Such a nice idea. I like this kind of resource management games. Sadly, there are a lot of bugs that take away from the experience. For example: - it is completely possible not to be able to proceed with a tutorial because you won't have enough resources to buy a farm (if you buy an oil rig and a mine for example). - during the tutorial, game claims you get 100 steel but I got only 20. Later it claims you have 10 people but I had 5 (and 15 on my second playthrough) at that moment. Seems like the tutorial doesn't really know what I have  - storage doesn't work properly which is the biggest game-breaker. In my attempted playthroughs steel was never stored properly - e.g. I stored several thousands of steel and got back 20 after the impact. Food just disappeared when I was attempting to put it into storage. People were also not being stored properly at all (e.g. put in about 700, get back 15).

If you'd like to keep working on the game, it would also be nice if you wouldn't have to stare at the stuff you ordered to build. In other words, I would like to just order my 40 infantry, and they can be built in the background while I do other stuff. Currently, the progress is halted if I close the window and not stare at the progress bar. Maybe it's a bug?

Graphics could do with some improvement as well. But hey, it's a jam game

I really hope you will keep working on the game, as the concept is nice and it can potentially be really fun if it works properly!

Interesting game that was pretty fun to play for a while. Shame about the glitches but its a game jam and stuff like that happens.

etrealjunior 2020-10-07 10:25

I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection

I seem to have gotten stuck in the tutorial as well. I'm not sure what happened, but I was unable to build the structures the tutorial was prompting me to. Seems like an interesting concept though! Hopefully the bugs can get worked out.

guimoliveira 2020-10-07 18:35

It seems to be a good game, but I couldn't understand how to play it.

I like the base idea. But I could not build a farm after the first impact. I was unable to stock food on my previosu attempt, the food was deleted from my stock but not added in storage when I uses thestorage option. Also my stored populatoin was nto transfered after the impact. I only got steel and oil and not as much as I stored

The core game loop is sound. The idea is there, and it was honestly fun. That being said...

The game is difficult to begin and impossible to finish. As has been pointed out by many other commenters, there are quite a few problems with the game:

- The amount of resources you are told you have during the tutorial is not reflected by reality. - Tutorial suffers from poor mining menu layout. Allowing the player to purchase an oil rig and waste their ability to even begin playing the game without even realizing that's what's happened is poor design (A simple fix to this is to have steel be the default ore type). - The quantum storage does not work for any resource besides oil, making it impossible to complete the game. I really tried. - You can give yourself a negative amount of a resource by moving the slider in quantum storage up and not pressing [Store]. When the asteroid hits, the window will remain open and the slider will still have the number in it. Pressing [Store] at this point will subtract the number in the slider from your current amount, giving you negative resources.

Some things that were not brought up by other users:

- Oil - You can only have 1 mine on any patch of ore, but you can have as many oil rigs on the starter patch as you want. Additionally, oil rigs do not reset to zero when the asteroid hits, making oil the single least valuable resource in the game. - Mine number 6 - The 6th patch does not liberate visually in the mining screen, but can have a mine placed on it. However, in the next round, this spot does not allow you to place a mine, making it a waste of military.

I also don't really understand what exactly food *does*? It just seems like an extra resource that has no real function (At least with the game in the current state it's in). If I missed something with that, then my bad.

The menus do not update in real time - you have to close and reopen them to update them, leading one to perhaps sit on a screen for several minutes expecting it to update as their resources increase. Admittedly, that's a bit of a luxury that people like me don't *immediately* appreciate as being difficult to implement, so I don't count that as anything more than a minour annoyance, and one that is easily worked around with experience.

Amusingly, if you had split the three bugs around oil (that you can stack rigs, that you can keep rigs after the impact, and that you can only store oil), and put any single one of those on steel, the game might have been able to be beaten. As it stands, though, it cannot.

I will also point out that, because oil is the single most plentiful resource in the game, I have no problems with only getting helicopters - they're cheaper in steel and manpower and have a greater effect on military. I only ever bought like ten tanks total throughout multiple attempts, and only ever bought infantry on my first proper run. I don't see this as a detraction per se, but this is my reason for assuming that stacking rigs is not what you are expected to be able to do.

That all being said, I do still like this game. It's surprisingly fun, and I keep thinking that maybe it's not actually entirely impossible to beat. If I do ever beat it, I'll let you know I guess.

I will add one more thing to my previous comment: This game has promise. The premise is good, it's relatively unique, and the gameplay shows the makings of a fun game. It just lacks polish and has a few bugs. If you kept working on this, you could potentially make this a full-fledged game. It definitely could use more things, and it might not sell well on steam, but you could probably make this a phone app. Free, but with advertisements after every impact, as proper punishment for the failure of saving everyone in the colony.

I urge you to work on this more. Just because you only spent three days on this doesn't mean you can't build off what you have. Hell, even with nothing more than bugfixes this could be a very good game.

It's like an idle game with an interesting twist, love the idea!
