The mood for the game was absolutely spot-on. I felt the terror slowly creeping up, and I loved every second of it. The tie-in with the theme was pretty solid as well. Keeping the fire alive was such a compulsion, and I could listen to the story alongside. The story got quite creepy.

On the other hand, the box displaying the story covered the part of the screen I needed to get to the firewood ever so often, so that was a bit annoying. More so, however, I felt hte story had a strong set-up but it didn't really go anywhere. The pay-off was a little drab. Plus, me putting logs into the fire had no real impact on the story. Lily killed me while I was walking around the forest, I'd have hoped she would show me the courtesy of waiting till I came back.

That said, ending on a positive note, the art style and visual direction were amazing. I've never seen this type of art done this well to so much effect. The art style is what brought me here, and it did not disappoint. Even with minimal animation, I was absolutely absorbed.

very cool

Very cool game I just died because I would like to take my time to read and answer a dialog T^T Maybe it could "pause" the game the time the player answer !

Really good game, but the text box was a bit wonky, if the size of the screen was altered. Other than that the mood was spot on and i liked it alot

bjornkri 2020-04-21 08:32

The sounds were spot on for the mood, very nice. Liked the art as well. Slow to start though, and hard to keep up with the story while wandering around. Suddenly the fire was extinguished while I was out looking for wood... would be great if you could skip the intro for a second playthrough!

kevin-meissner 2020-04-21 08:34

Really nice mood but a bit boring to be honest^^. Also a bit hard to do what you actually have to do.

antonis-koutsouradis 2020-04-21 08:36

Loved the mood ! The sound were also beautiful. Great job !!

shayan-ebz78 2020-04-21 08:38

liked the art and sound, it was fun to play tho.

The idea is Really cool ! I felt the friendship-horror mood. Congratulation, it's a very good submission

jasonsumm1 2020-04-21 08:40

Yeah, really solid mood here and good graphics, I like it :)

The game looks really good, I'm a bit unsure of why the game is 144 MB though. You also nailed the sound and mood but I found that I really had to concentrate to keep up with the dialogue and the story, in my first playthrough I didn't even realise that I could move and it should have been clearer when you were allowed to move. I did feel as it was clear what you were supposed to do but I was a bit unsure of the controls and after putting my first piece of wood in the fire I didn't manage to add another, maybe you should have added some sort of UI text that tells you what to do and what controlls to use.

Nice graphics, but could not keep the fire alive because of a bug. I have tried to pick up wood while already having one in hands. Something went wrong and I could not put any wood into the fire but I have got 'auto pickup' each time I was near other wood piece.

The light! oh the light! Fantastic artstyle! The start was a bit slow, but otherwise cool game!

Nice SFX, nice music, cool graphics, the dialog box position was a little bit annoying and i couldn't skip it after reading what's in it.

Pretty good. I didn't know I was supposed to be keeping the fire going during my first play through, and so let fire die. Then the second time I had no choice but to let the fire die because it wouldn't let me drop the fire wood. I'm also getting an error in the command prompt when the fire dies for some reason...

But the graphics were neat, and from what I could tell reading through some of the other comments the story ended up making a pretty neat turn. Definitely makes me want to keep trying to get to it. The music kind of gives me Hello Neighbor vibes. Which is a good thing - I personally liked that game.

EDIT: I played it again to the end. Really neat! I think the issue I had with the wood previously had something to do with trying to pick up wood while I was already holding wood. But when I wasn't having that issue, it was neat wandering around. I might have liked to get a chance to walk around sooner, but it was neat when I got to it. Did anyone else notice the car?

Really moody entry! My only problem is the UI scales weird with fullscreen, which is a shame, cause playing fullscreen really adds to the mood. I'll definitely save this one, and play it fully just to see the story end.

simansimon 2020-04-21 08:57

The mood is pretty spot on, the overall vibe is really chilling and familiar. There is quite a lot of content, which is rare in the jam. I was a little bit baffled by the fact that the text doesn't wait until you press something, and you can't skip it. Otherwise, very good!

curtis-pelissier 2020-04-21 08:58

This game is really intersting. You have made a good story based on friends around a campfire, with dark elements in the wood that made the story creepy.

The graphics are good, I love the "hand paint" style, the parallax forest, the details in the woods (that I will not spoil here). With the musics and audio mix, you made an incredible game.

But it's really hard to follow the story and collect wood at the same time. I tried to follow the story but died because the fire stopped. Maybe the solution was to collect wood between dialogues?

Nevermind, really nice work with Godot, I really like the game.

nosfer 2020-04-21 09:04

Cool. Great graphics and audio. But I got a bug twice that I couldn't drop the wood into the fire. Also speeding up the text with some key could be good and this would really be nice with narrator :)

diinki 2020-04-21 09:04

I liked the art, and the idea of the game was also quite interesting. However some things felt a little unpolished such as picking up wood and giving it to the fire, that didn't work once caused me to lose. Saving/loading would make it more re-playable in my opinion. But great atmosphere.

endytroll 2020-04-21 09:39

Great guitar music, love it! And also the character’s animation is really good. nice job!

duke 2020-04-21 10:19

Interesting entry. Took me a while until I noteced that the dialog was the gameplay and that the fire was fading during the dialoge choices.

Pro: + Music (great guitar stuff!) + Atmosphere (lighting effects, great use of ambient sound, good job)

Things that bugged me a little: - The text crawls were too slow. I'm a fast reader and had to wait for each sentence to switch to the next. A button to manually progress the dialoge would've been nice. - The characters had names, but it wasn't clear who was who. For immersions sake, it would've been cool to have speech bubbles at the characters or something :)

All in all a cool little text adventure

harry-alissavakis 2020-04-21 10:24

Really nice and unique art style, and you managed to create quite the scary atmosphere! Really like it, good job!!

pusheeneiro 2020-04-21 16:44

Wow, this game has amazing graphics.

rlods 2020-04-22 10:52

love the atmosphere !
