Simple mechanics but works fine. There is a little lack in graphics and the music is little annoying in long term, but good job.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD46 → War of the Flies

Could not even get passed the instructions screen, not sure what happened. Tried pressing lots of buttons
This is a great idea that fits the theme very well! I found that I often had water spawn quite far away, which gave flies a lot of time to eat the flower before I could get rid of them. But it was good fun, great job!
menu screen was bugged
The menu screen is I think functional, but it just lasts for about 900 frames (at 30 fps), I didn't know how intuitive the instructions were.
Takes very long until the menu disappears but then it works ok. I liked the incentive to get away from the plant to collect water. But the water could be placed closer to the plant, otherwise the bugs have plenty of time to eat it. Nice!
Cute sprites. Needed a press any key at the beginning and background pictures so you knew you character was still moving when there was nothing on the screen.
Out of curiosity, how was the difficulty? Did you finish the game? @itskdog @zondarg @ben-toosey @bgamedev
I like the mechanic of dragging back the water, gave it a feeling of danger that I couldn't shoot while fetching water. I finished the game and saved the plant, thought difficulty was fine. I'd really like to have the shooting as just a hold the button down instead of constantly clicking, as I found that a bit hard to keep up for the whole game. I'd also make the bullets much bigger, could bearly see them. For your first LD game there solid mechanics and fun game, well done.
Can't pass through tutorial screen. Pressed a lot of buttons but it seemed to be frozen.
Menu works but just takes ages. Sorry.
pretty buggy, cant play further than the tutorial...
Also stuck on the intro screen. Using Chrome on Windows 10.
Congrats on finishing your first Ludum Dare. You created an impressively complex game considering that it was your first time. I think the most important thing is to remember to make your game accessible. It wasn't clear what I was supposed to do to advance past the how-to-play screen. There were also some stylistic choices that could've been better, like the background being the same color as the bullets, making them invisible. That being said, this game clearly has a lot of heart. If you had fun, you should keep making games and entering jams. You can only get better.
Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare (it's my first too! and we have similar games)! I'm not gonna lie, this music is kinda annoying. I also lost for no reason apparently like 5 times. By the way, (besides the problem with the tutorial and lost screen) the game is working fine! Hope you can get better and better on making games! Good luck!
I am having trouble starting the game, as in, it takes a long time to start? Also using chrome on win 10. What engine are you using? the the water is pretty bugged, it splashes and stops following while i'm retrieving it back to base, and it's not possible to shoot through it either wich made gathering pretty hard without sacrificing quality time with your flower haha, some sort of sprint ability would be appreciated, maybe not an infinite sprint but, like, if you had a stamina bar or something
The water splashing is intentional, it stops camping with water ready at the flower. Sorry about the loading screen, it just takes ages
Congrats on finishing your first LD!
I had a lot of fun with your game!
Here are my comments: * As others had mentioned, the instructions screen takes a lot of time to go away. But I think the real issue is that they're not clear enough. For example: you're mentioning that you can grab the water drop with the mouse, but you also need to hold down the left mouse button. * The color of the projectiles does not contrast enough with the background. At first I thought shooting was not working. * The Goliath bug should have a different color. When you're focused on the enemies and finding water, you don't really notice there's another threat to the plant. If you use a different color, the play can spot him even if he's not really looking. * There's no sound, right? If so, you can opt-out for votes on that category
Great work!
I have to say it's a pretty good one for your first LD. Some issues mentioned here make it really hard to keep playing after the first death. Shooting and moving worked well. The water splashing was cool idea, but you should keep the "move water" and "shoot" buttons separate. I ended up shooting a lot of the drops because of that. I liked the characters and how the flower lost its petals. Good job!
