It was made well, but i didnt find i very fun. I did not quite understand the point of the game.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD43 → A Heart of Light

@kenn50games Thanks for the honest feedback. Yeah I only just got to actually play the game and I realized it wasn't really fun either aha. I really just wanted to make a game with shaders and a bit of mystery, but I think I got too occupied with it that I forgot to properly test the game as I was making it
I liked the title screen, the idea itself and the mood! :) One problem I have found is somehow I could move around and interact with a dead monk. It's kinda spooky walking around in the dark with such a small light radius. Might have been even more dreadful if the radius was bigger but the darkness would completely cover the worms... and if you could overtake the worms, while knowing they would be always coming for you! :D
I really liked the guiding light mechanic. Nice ui too. A little hard to figure out how to effectively use sacrifice.
The mood of the game is nice, but a bit of explanation how characters follow you when light is around is kind of important (I was sacrificing like mad before that).
The concept seems interesting, but it needs something other to keep pace of the game (like monsters hunting you in dark? That could do) - of course it is a jam game, so time to create it isn't unlimited.
Congratulations on making the game anyways!
@zgragselus Hey cheers mate. Sorry I completely forgot to mention how characters follow you! It seems obvious that it should have been included in the description. Also there are monsters that hunt you in the dark, but I didn't get enough time to give them much other functionality.
Thanks for the comments anyways!
I understood the concept of the game it's ok. I think the graphics work fine but you should think of changer the blue parts at the sides of the map somethink more related with style of the rest of the game.
@pedro-rosa Cheers. Yeah I tried drawing some water sprites but I couldn't get it to match the art style of the game, so I just left it as a plain blue
Played a lot of times ... love the concept, light look good and figured out that if my light is going out and I get close to a light source from a sacrifice I get my light back.
Worms are too fast and it was hard for me to escape. Managed to get past the bridge and explored most of the second section. I get where the "sacrifice" part is coming from and I actually had bits of fun here and there exploring the map and killing NPCs. Not a bad entry overall :P
@mordokay Hey thanks mate, really appreciate it. Makes me happy that you said you had a little bit of fun. As I mentioned above I was afraid I had completely sacrificed (pun intended) a fun game for a moody game.
Really enjoyable Game, really had a cool time playing and I played for a while... Definitely something to come back to !!!!!
Interesting concept and very enjoyable game. Couldn't assume this when I looked at the screenshots
Hey thanks @azayiah and @supr for your comments! I'll try and check out your games when I get a chance
Really cool mechanical setup. Great mood created with the simple sprites and shadow. Would love to play something more fleshed out using this mechanic. A simple goal, maybe with collecting an item and getting to a location would add a lot to the setup. Adding in some enemies that lurk in the dark would really add tension as well.
edit: just saw another comment about some worms, must have not explored as thoroughly as I thought.
@dwemthy Hey thanks for the feedback mate! Yeah the worms don't get activated till after you pass the bridge out of the starting area :sunglasses:
Hi, nice job, very atmospheric. I think that from this you can do something very useful, I have never seen such a concept in real games, try to develop it if you want! Good luck to you.
Cheers @syrok, appreciate it
Wasn't quite sure where the game was going, but the look was good, the mechanic was interesting, and the aesthetic was nice. Could have done with some nice background music though.
It is a cool game, but the worms are confusing and the world is too big to explore with the amount of light you have. Very nice atmosphere though.
@huf0001 Thanks for the comment
@plagueofminds Yeah, looking back at the game I realize I made the world to big given the resources you have. If I make a post jam version, one of the first things I'll do is make the map shorter
A really interesting idea. The concept was pretty orginal and I loved the grim, mysterious atmosphere. I definitely think you should keep working on it after the jam, with this setting you could easily make a great backstory. Awesome job !
I liked the mood o the game, and the pace. That I could walk around and find out what was happening without running out of time or life or light too quickly. I agree with the other that perhaps the game would have benefited from concentrating on those pieces and not making the world overly large.
@whismirk & @local-minimum, thanks guys! :sunglasses:
I thought this was a really awesome idea! I loved that there were added abilities you could unlock later too! I struggled a bit with just navigation, I couldn't figure out which was my light and if it was supposed to be guiding the direction to go or following me. All in all though it was really fun!
Thanks @riyroo
Interesting idea, and I liked that the sacrificed characters had names (made it feel more personal). Pretty good mood & use of theme!
Cheers @sorlok!
