Looks cool, but it's made on UE4, so it doesn't run on my computer... I guess that would be nice to watch a gameplay of it...

dreamlesshero 2018-12-03 21:44

Really nice atmosphere. Great concept. One of a kind

kaiagan 2018-12-04 17:54

@dreamlesshero Thanks!

@PxLucasF Sorry to hear that. There is a HTML5 version, I did not know some systems were incompatible. I will make a video if I have time...

captaincorgistan 2018-12-04 21:12

Nice GUI and gameplan, that's start of a real good game!

kathlar 2018-12-04 21:59

Looks great, you should continue this project :D

blacklambert 2018-12-05 00:22

Easy to learn and pleasantly hard to master. But it isn't easy to tell the freezing and the warm people apart.

kaiagan 2018-12-05 07:51

@captaincorgistan @kathlar Thanks!

@blacklambert Thank you! Yeah, I definitively agree with you. I will have to think about another way to do it, but it shouldn't be too hard.

jdelaay025johnd1788 2018-12-06 19:47

I love how it looks. I honestly don't think you need the 3D assets for the people. LOL the trees maybe, but people should just use their imagination. lol I think the objective is to assign people to a specific task and then they take it from there. and eventually you'll need to kill someone off because they are not being helpful? Is that true. I honestly didn't get it. Ill try again when i'm not at work LUL

kaiagan 2018-12-06 20:23

@jdelaay025johnd1788 Thanks :) Yeah, I was thinking about environment for the 3D assets (trees, doors, beds, walls, etc), not characters!

The objective is indeed to assign people to tasks. You decide who you feed and keep warm. When a character dies, you can have a large amount of meat and cloth (warmth) but you lose manpower in the long run. In some cases, it is actually critical to get resources immeditaley and thus sacrificing someone. In other cases, a character can get a disease or a wound and they will cost more food/warmth. If you don't have the medicine to heal them, actually making them die faster is beneficial. But I have to admit that right now, the game isn't the most balanced game ever and generally you want people to survive.

This was really fleshed out and well presented! What were the nails for?

kaiagan 2018-12-07 20:54

@pogo Thank you. The tools (nails icon) were supposed to repair damaged parts of the house after the storms (broken windows/doors making the rooms colder) and to allow the player to disassemble furnitures (beds, shelves, etc) in order to get wood. As you may have noticed, these events are not implemented so they are completely useless right now :D

emmatw 2018-12-07 23:07

Well done, the concept is really nice and has a lot of potential, the core mechanics are pretty much there! It's really too bad that you couldn't work more on it, you should keep it as a project and see how far you can go with it!

idinakloppstock 2018-12-09 19:23

Very nice idea, I only managed 4 days. I had the feeling to burn wood to warm up my people has no effect at all? Can you see somewhere how many maximum action points each survivor can have? Anyway, I enjoyed playing it! :)

kaiagan 2018-12-10 10:39

@idinakloppstock Thank you! The thing is that the fire has 50% chance of losing power every hour. Basically when your fire is below half its maximum power, every rooms in the house are cold and characters lose warmth. If you don't want to consume 1000 clothes, you have to sustain the fire above 50% power. Notice also that rooms like bathroom and kitchen are cold even with a 100% fire.

Unfortunately you can't see the fire power or the max actions of a character. I hadn't time to implement it.

A haunting and super difficult game. It was a lot of fun, though. In the end I had way too much food from all the corpses, haha.

Congratulations!

(oh, hey, this genre is right up my alley. guess this review is biased as heck...)

This is a good game. Reminds me of an easier-to-parse version of *Zafehouse Diaries* ;) I like how you managed (maybe even prioritised?) to make the controls and basic gameplay feel all slick and polished even though there were some bugs and weirdness behind the curtain. That's a thing I seem to be constantly struggling with myself, so kudos for making it look easy as anything.

To be honest I could probably have played this for hours if there were some more random events popping up.

kaiagan 2018-12-12 18:44

@emmatw @krylos Thank you very much!

@widdershinscrustacean Thank you! I didn't know Zafehouse Diaries but it looks good! Reminds me of a flash game I played a long time ago, which inspired me this ld game (I don't remember the name) :)

To be honest I knew I was not going to have a lot of time and I lowered my ambition. This was my first game jam and I am actually surprised of how much things you can do when you feel "pressured". This is why I quickly finished the base mechanics. I took the time to polish a little bit the UI and I made a tutorial because my priority was to have something playable. There are a lot of bugs of course but this was the spaghettiest code I've ever seen in my life. Adding little features just before posting (new survivors, fire extinguished by the storm) was so much faster than trying to put my nose into this mess again. :D

I am currently developping this game "seriously" and it is so much cleaner now! There will be a lot more random events indeed. As I said earlier, I added the events (fire extinguished by storm and new survivor) at the very end and it upgraded the game from "very boring" to "boring".

Anyway, I'm glad some people enjoyed it! Thank you! ;)

Bug :(

cigsandflowers 2018-12-13 20:29

Really great game overall! i really had fun playing it, i found it to be quite complex at the start but then realized that it is actually pretty simple :) really liked the simple graphics and the music

andrazg 2018-12-18 20:47

this is really unique proto.. really nice... though there is a bug, the iu screen stays and cannot move

tpamir 2018-12-19 18:56

Loved the concept! It's a bit hard yet great approach. Keep up the good work.

riyroo 2018-12-22 21:40

Quite a cool game, amazing you managed to make this in the time allotted! My only issue with it is that I'd like it if it maybe went day by day or half day by day. Some of the changes with the people seemed extreme for one day. The amount of resources you went through just to finish one day felt like a lot. I like being able to choose all the different places to put my people, and I thought the names were funny. Vladimir Putin was my first to die! I loved being able to see the changing of time with the shadows and light though I thought that was a really cool aspect to have. Thanks for the game!
