Not really sure what I did, but somehow I became immortal. Kind of thankful for that bug because I wouldn't have been able to solve the game otherwise - the jumps were a tad too tricky for me. Loved the art style though. Amazing :O

cindys-arcade 2018-12-04 19:53

Great art style and solid controls. Nicely done :)

etdofresh 2018-12-04 19:56

Very cool game. Dark and light all at the same time. I tried my best, but just never seem to have enough hearts to finish the level.

kegnarok 2018-12-04 19:58

Nice game! Amazing that you could pull off nice art and music in 72 hours! I got the same bug as @pavocado on my second try, which also helped me finish the game =D

stephen321 2018-12-04 20:02

Nice, well done! One thing is I think there should be some sort of better feedback when you are sacrificing a life to spawn a platform. Nice artwork and choice of music to make it fit the theme.

vodish 2018-12-04 20:04

Let's start with the problems I had. - Using W doesn't jump as said as in the description, not really a problem as you can jump with space, just thought I'd signal it - I can't finish the game, I end up not having enough lives after having to sacrifice myself.

The art is nice, it's missing a bit of something to make it alive. It would have been nice to have some sound on top of the music.

I couldn't see the end, but it's not a bad game

Music is AMAZING ! Mechanics are not really innovative, but fit the theme. The game generally feels completed - there are no any visible unfinished aspects , so congratulations for planning your time during jam. I always have problems with making core mechanics first - wasting too much time on unnecessary stuff :p

@pavocado @cindys-arcade @etdofresh @kegnarok @stephen321 @vodish @xcvzxc We actually had a feature in plans to make it possible to reach the goal but unfortunately we didn't manage to implement it on time :( So even if it feels kinda finished it lacks some mechanics we wanted to add to make it complete. Despite that we've decided to put the game on LD, as there's still some awesome arts and overall mood there to experience :) Thanks a lot for your feedback!

The music is great, whereas other entries just loop a short sequence, having a basically full track really stands out. Graphics are alright, the little wisp/ghost creatures and the shaman sprites look great which is why it seems strange with the tiles looking a bit lackluster. I wish the gameplay wasn't as tight, maybe decreasing the gravity would work. Overall, it looks nice, sounds nice, has a decent idea and decent gameplay.

rkuhl 2018-12-09 14:45

The graphics are really good, the music is very well done, and the idea is decent, but I felt it could be expanded on. I would love to see a full game with lots of secrets and interesting puzzles. Maybe you could make the sacrificial blocks moveable. I thought the gravity was too high, and I was unable to finish the game.

denzil-gomes 2018-12-19 22:29

I like character design and the music. I feel it could be the start of a good game with added features like moving the block like @rkuhl mentioned. Having the one track continuously play instead of starting and stopping probably made it easier to keep replaying after dying

diego-burgos 2018-12-20 02:44

Nice idea, but it was impossible for me. Very nice music

merpader 2018-12-20 02:47

Nice movement, art and music but I would have really liked a quick restart button rather than find an enemy to damage me repeatedly until I died. I did find a bug where you don't take damage when you sacrifice at the same time an enemy hits you at one heart. I believe this happens b/c you might have if(health == 0) and not if(health <= 0) for finding death in your c# scripts. Other than that, this was really fun to play!

ty-victorson 2018-12-20 08:40

Beautiful graphics and music was a nice touch. I was however unable to finish the game. Great job!

illaks 2018-12-20 17:33

Very good graphics. The music didn't fit well for me, but was cool. The mechanic is interesting but I think it was not a very good idea to match the "sacrificing parts" concept with your HP, specially if you can lose HP from other sources. The game was unwinnable for me. But I must repeat, very cool graphics :D

hitchh1k3r 2018-12-21 06:17

I have found the totem!

 The audio and graphics fit well together to create an atmosphere of ritualistic sacrifice, which really invoked the theme. The idea is really cool, and reminds me a bit of We The Giants:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSG2iYU8vIc

:bug: I noticed you could cancel the sacrifice animation by jumping during it (or jumping and triggering the sacrifice while in the air). I also ran into the invincibility bug, I triggered it by jumping on spikes and sacrificing myself in the air, when I hit them the character died with the spike death animation, and spawned a platform (and all my hearts were gone).

:point_right: I thought it was strange that death triggered the platform, but thing could also hurt you... maybe it would have made more sense if every time you died to had to start over (now with a new platform), and every death would trigger it (not just a sacrifice).

:star: Overall good job, and thank you for making this.

It looks and sound really good !

The idea is a bit too "safe", it fits the theme tho.

I feel like the jumps are too fast for the slow move speed. I think the character could have been a little bit more floaty.

The game kind of freeze a little bit when the character kills himself, I don't know if it's intended or if you are reloading the scene or something, but imo it should be smoother. I think it's important that the main mechanic feels good.

About level design, it looks like you made it so that the second jump is impossible to make, and you have to sacrifice a life to make it. That's great to teach how to use the new mechanic, but if it's indeed the intent, you should make it obvious that you can't simply make the jump and you should find another way. Also I tried jumping on the enemy ghost thingy, maybe it's me being dumb, or it could also be more obvious that you shouldn't jump on it.
