Nice Game but I find it not very intuitive. It needs some time to find out how it should be played. A game description (how to play) would be nice to spare this time.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD42 → Simple Space RTS

thanks will add
Thanks for the info!
This game had terrible non-standard camera controls making it difficult to move around the map. If I wanted to co-ordinate an attack on the enemy I would have to commit to not seeing my home base for 10 seconds as I slowly panned over to the action and then all the way back.
How to play the game also wasn't explained in any detail. What any of the buttons on the main base did wasn't explained either and you simply had to test each one to see and even then it wasn't very clear.
My harvester drones would also target asteroids that I hadn't discovered yet since they didn't care about the fog of war.
You can't run from enemies as once any of them enter combat they engage in the combat completely making any attempts of strategy or micromanagement impossible.
For your first game jam, this is very well made. I like the autonomy of the workers and the fog of war. There's also a good variety of units. The camera panning was a little difficult for me since my mouse would go beyond the game window, but in general, well done!
thanks, i had trouble with making the camera shift using the arrow keys. i would get horrible visual errors.
I tried playing this a couple times and got absolutely crushed every single time. There simply seems to be no way to keep up with the enemy -- by the time I can afford a single tank, they already have four tanks and ten normal ships.
I have absolutely no idea how in the screenshot you could have gotten 1279 crystals. That's absolutely nuts.
The only other problem I encountered was that sometimes your fighting ships would fly off the screen where you couldn't move your camera (i.e. to the top and to the left), and then there was no way to re-select them. I imagine they got destroyed? But why would they even be allowed to fly off of the map?
It's a solid game otherwise. All the gameplay is there, is just needs more details (like displaying ship stats on screen) and a way to win.
You got a lot of things right, perhaps make this into a full game? A tutorial would be a huge help ;)
The glitch with the enemies flying off screen is an issue with them not having a target that i tried to fix, and then they didn't move at all. We do plan to make this into a full game. just need to work out some kinks.
The 1279 crystals was used for testing purposes but may becoming obtainable in the future as we continue to update the game. But thanks for the info!
It's a great game for your first game jam! As mentioned by @hellspoodles however, the controls aren't really standard. Also the fact that you can't select a unit by clicking on it and that you can't see it's health makes it hard to play. There is some pathfinding issues (which led one some of my units to leave the map).
The controls of the camera is a not conventional. It's really hard to perform action because of that. the Fog of war can be a problem when fighting enemies. I also think that you need to put less enemies for the first encounter. I almost lost all started my ships in one single combat.
Not bad game actually, controls need tweaking tho.
Weird camera control, I would suggest to let the player control it with the keyboard. That aside, its a nice game.
HEY an RTS game! I love seeing any and all RTS games on ludum dare, always really cool to see and play. I really enjoyed the general vibe of the game, easy to manage mining, but there's a long list of issues, like the game being 99% certainly unbeatable, units (both my and enemy) going forever off into the distance, miners trying to attack the enemy and thus getting stuck, and some other minor ones. But with the time given, very good effort, it's definitely playable and worth continuing development.
Thanks for the game!
yah pretty impressive busting out with an RTS for a game jam. I like the idea of the clicking on a base and a wheel coming out. With some effort and a lot of streamlining this could even be good run on mobile.
This is really sweet! Congratulations on completing your first LD Jam! Camera controls on the keyboard would have been super nice for me. It would be really cool to see this polished up a bit and getting a version 1.1! Look forward to seeing more from you in the future!
is a good game, but I think it does not fit the theme well.
@draperdanman, thanks a ton for the feedback! We plan to fix a lot of the errors and make the game more sound in the future. Stay tuned in!
Oh my god! An actual RTS? And it plays well too.
You guys are crazy! The good kind of crazy!
Found a bug. Sometimes ships just keep going in one direction, and will keep moving until they fly out of the map.
@kungkras Thank you so much! We've got a big list of things we are working on now for the next update including the bug. Stay tuned!
i am sorry but the camera and controls are just so hard to deal with it makes the game unplayable - i commend you on trying - use this as a learning experience for the next jam - i have to give you cred for trying to make a rts over a weekend - brave!
