I like the effect of the light it is cool, but I am missing some feedback to the user like audio when you pick up stuff, or some particles, for example if you pick up plants, spawn some bubbles.
Great work! :D
It looked beautiful, with a particulate system would get even better.
Why no mac?
@ikstreamivo Thanks for your input, I will add a more detailed instruction for the game, basially to win you will have to find your mothership.
@quemagalletas Thanks for your detailed feedback, if we have time after the Jam we'll probably add some of your suggestions. :)
@penguindon I had no Mac to test it, but I'll add the binary now. Link is Up now, I hope it works.
I managed to beat the game! A try again option would be great on the game over screen so I wouldn't have to restart the game. It looks great but I would prefer it a little bit more zoomed out but that's maybe just me.
Also the quit button on the win screen didn't work for me.
I dig that light effect! I was not able to "win".
Gorges design! But still, if you ask me, it lacks a bit on gameplay, aldo it has a fun concept!
@spexxilove Thanks for the feedback and the Bug Report! The Quit Button is now repaired, Thank You :) Unfortunaly we didn't had enough time for a Try-Again-function.
Fun little game. I run out of oxygen most of the times I tried, and got killed by the squid a couple more times. Couldn't find the mothership.
Maybe have the oxygen and power decrease slower or add more resources? I found it really hard to survive more than a couple of minutes.
The game just exits directly after selecting a screen resolution, there is no errors in the terminal to indicate why. This is with the Linux version. Your screenshots are really beautiful and I want to play your game :)
The idea is awesome, the light effect is really cool and gives you the sense you're underwater but with audio would be more immersive maybe, the controls are fine and I missed a restart button Good job!
Great work on the graphics and controls. You should give the player more information on how to play. And also we often die, not knowing why, and I've never found this motorship I have to find.
@rijnswand + @nyri0 Thanks for your feedback, we wanted to keep the playtime as short as possible, but it seems as the game is to hard now. We will try to rebalance it.
@wesley-werner Could you provide me with some more information on your System (distro, arch, version)? As I am not able to reproduce your issue. I would appreciate your help!
@patr Debian Jessie 8.8 64-bit. I only have intel integrated graphics, so that could be an issue? There are no errors, just the sudden exit when I click "OK" on the resolution selection screen. Running via the GNU debugger I see "[Inferior 1 (process 1007) exited with code 01]". Sorry that is not very helpful :p
@wesley-werner Thanks for the information! :) I have noticed crashes/freezes in debian jessie and stretch when trying to play the game in fullscreen mode, however, this seems to be a "Unity + debain thing" and I am not able to fix it. :( Nevertheless thanks for letting us know. I will add some information regarding this issue in the game description.
Epic graphics :scream:! Unfortunately, I don't understand how to play...
As @spexxilove mentioned, a *_Try Again_* Button would be great. And, in macOS, the App icon is missing!
Man, you made a hard game. I tried several time, but couldn't last mora that 10 seconds. As many people have mentioned, the Retry button is a must, specially if the game is that hard.
Some random ideas: - A radar that tells you where are the items, but it consumes more energy, so you have to turn it on and off. - Quick boost of speed that needs recharging - Mini map to see what you have explored.
I played through 5 times and never found the mothership.
Overall, I'd say this is a very promising game. I like how you tied both of the "special abilities" (speed boost, flashlight) to your two resources, which really reinforced the "running out of power" feeling. The graphics look great, and I love how you made easy-to-parse images for the backstory and instructions.
So, the biggest issue I have with this game is that I don't feel like I'm ever making progress, and that whether you win seems to mostly depend on how lucky you are. Right now, I'm just swimming around and collecting energy and oxygen, which is reasonably fun and engaging, but I don't feel like I'm ever getting closer to finding the mothership because it could be anywhere. And if I do eventually find the mothership, it's almost certainly going to be because I randomly picked the right direction, rather than because I found a good strategy or was able to deduce where it was, which feels a little bad. Some potential suggestions: - A minimap that is gradually revealed as you move around would have been great, because it helps you plan your future route. It gives a sense of progress because you gradually eliminate where the mothership can be, and if it showed oxygen/energy pickups, then you could leave some behind to pick them up later, which increases the amount of strategy. (The player can do all of this right now, but it would require an insane amount of memory) - Some way of hinting at the location of the mothership would be great. Some possible ideas: - Increase the number of broken ship parts you see as you get closer. - Maybe have a "sonar" power that uses up a large amount of energy and tells you how close you are to the mothership, or what general direction to move in.
And after writing this, I see that @elmismipancho basically said the same things oops. :P
Finally, in terms of polish, I would have really liked some sound effects for moving, using a speed boost, picking up energy/oxgyen, etc. If you added some sound effects as well as some background sounds, this game would have easily been a 5/5 mood for me, because the visuals are already really good at conveying the feeling of being lost in some giant dark ocean.
All in all, even though I never beat the game, I still had fun moving around and trying to survive. If you added a few more features and polished this up, I could see myself playing this a lot. Great job!
Very good job on graphics, that contributes a lot to the game's mood. Background music would make the mood much better.
I've found a squid for a couple of times, but didn't find a mothership) As it was mentioned earlier a minimap would help a lot
