I won! This game can be finished really fast but that's not bad. I really had fun playing it. Its simple and with a clear objective I am sure many people used in this LD ... "escape the room".
Graphics were not the best but enough for the experience and the controls were simple and straight to the point.
NOTE: I found it a bit easy so my suggestion would be to increase enemy size (or colliders) or maybe remove some of the player lives ... I just think 10 lives is too much.
Great first game! Didn't see any bugs, so kudos for that. Objective was clear and easy to follow, especially since the keys shined so nicely. I appreciated the variety in enemies, too (though the gates doing 8 damage was a little harsh!) I managed to beat the game on my first play through with 2 lives remaining.
The difficulty seemed reversed; it was hard at the beginning and then was super easy at the end. Adding sounds would be a simple way to make the game feel so much better.
Can't wait to see your next game!
Fun little idea. Works just fine. I liked it.
I was knocked back by the big blue enemy in the upper left corner and was stuck in the wall. I couldn't move anymore. I liked the game but you could make a small screen which explains the controls first and pauses the game. The first time i spawned, din't find me on the screen instantly and got shot by the tower. But overall the game look nice.
I've Won! Really good entry guys, especially considering your ages and the fact that you did this in Java, it's particularly impressive. Good jam game all around.
I think one time the life counter glitched out on me (said I had more life than I did). Also the hit box on the green/red deathpits is too big (you hit them when you're clearly not on them).
I enjoyed the feeling of helplessness from not having any weapons but I do wish I could have used the turrets to hurt the enemies. Overall nice work. Keep it up.

I think you guys did a great job in your first game. It's a very straightforward game and it has potential! Congratulations and keep making games!

Decent challenge, could be completet superfasy but not by me. Took me quite a while, good job
Great first entry guys! Hope you take part in more in the future. I found the game quite difficult, so maybe a future addition to it could be maybe a dodge button or something? I feel like that could work well.
Overall I enjoyed it, even if I did get stuck in walls a couple of times (but hey it's a game jam, bugs are expected)

Not bad for a first game, but there is a lot of things to you could do better: graphics, adding some music and sound effects, etc.
Not bad! Congrats on your first game. Nice glow effect on the keys.
The game idea is nice and the difficulty of the game makes the gameplay atractive. With some musics and FX it would be nice. IT's a great job if it is your first game in a jam!
Nice game and I wanted to say if you are able to compile my game then please send me download link to youre jar file in my comments or on youtube ()
Thank you very much for helping me with my error.
I haven't got your message on youtube but I found it on LudumDare.
Thanks bro.
PS: Very cool game I like the style of it.

Good:
- The game is easy to understand.
- The controls works super great.
- The game is not too easy or too hard.
Could have been better:
- The game needs some music/sound effects.
- When you win the game, make a victory screen, instead of used quitting the game.
This is overall a great game. And by the way welcome to LD.

I made a point of playing your game because you helped out that 14-year-old by fixing his bug and building a jar version of his game so others could play it. Very nice of you!!
I enjoyed your game and I thought it was fun for such a simple set of interactions. I beat it after maybe 4 retries I think. My strategy in the final run was to get the tricky keys in the center first, and only after I did that successfully I went back for the early keys.
If I wanted to advise you on a few easy ways to make small improvements, here are some:
1. I found the color contrast between your background and foreground elements was not great, and so it wasn't super-clear to my eye. It's better when you can make important elements "pop" to my eye. The part that needed this the most here was the fireball from the turret guy. A common strategy for this in video games is to use a "de-saturated" background, so that is you have high-saturation colors for your foreground, and low-saturation colors for the background. Most programs allow HSL (hue, saturation, lightness) as well as RGB color picking, so try some experiments.
2. Since you have learned to draw and code your logic, you are ready to start adding more "juice" to your game! I liked how you make the character bounce backward when hit by the fireball, for example. There is a fantastic video on youtube called "The Art of Screenshake" which has just a ton of really fantastic tips for tiny things that you can do to improve your game feel.
Great job!
Thanks at all for your feedbacks !
Especially @pkenney, your advices are really useful, thx !

First of all, congrats on your first LD! Sometimes it can get pretty difficult to finish your first ideas, but you got past that! :)
I felt, though, that the game lacks a bit of challenge, since all mobs follow a predefined path, it kinda takes of the challenge of the game, though it still feels challenging to finish!
I had some really tough time with the blinking doors, where I'd die every single time I got close to them. It feels kinda frustrating, so checking the player's hitbox for this collision might help.
The graphics are nicely done, having that 8-bit style, remembered me of some DOS games I played when I was a kid (and some from Ultima on GB :P). The key's lighting effect is great and it add a nice touch to the game. :)
Controls work perfectly, are simple and pretty accessible, so it's pretty good! :D
Missing on the audio dept., though, as it could help give the game a better mood and feeling.
But really, great work to You! And, again, Congratz on your first LD! :3
Challeng
Opps! Challenging game. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 37 games, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/7yEaPmt36yU
