Hi, nice game and congratulations !an ascii game :D We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Very impressive!
I enjoyed every minute of it (even when there wasn't much left to do for me ^^)

This is really cool! The art style is very innovative and original. An overall great game!

Really nice game :) Love the music and the art style fits the theme and the game. Only Problem I see is it's seems like you can't put fields to close to each other ;P ( I would have like to do like 1 big field )

Holy crap he made an ascii game in Unity.

It even looks really nice, that's not too common in ascii games.

In the beginning it was okay because it was something new graphics wise but it got dull and boring really fast. Just a repetitive cycle of building a house, building a farm then waiting and building a ship maybe. You could have broken that cycle really easy by adding some events that require player reaction like for example a house going on fire and the player has to get rid of it by spamming click or maybe let the player put together the pyramid in a mini game so you don't just sit there and wait doing nothing really. Game-Design 101! Also the selection sound was too loud for being that high of a pitch. I almost had a heart attack when I first clicked a building, , and that is so easy to fix in Unity.

This is so amazing that I don't even know where to begin.. On a level of it's own. Good job!!!

Wow, looks really cool! It does lack some kind of challenge though.

I really enjoyed playing this game. The art and details (two people transporting blocks faster, people hanging out at the beach) are impressive! The music is great.
Amazing!

Catchy gameplay, although lack of any depth or challenge. This would be nothing of interest, but that Primal Power of the ASCII... Just watching sun and moon moving in the sky, or that nice perspective view on village fills my heart with warmth. I'd love to see days still changing after the game over, just to enjoy it a bit more.
Thank you!

Thanks for all the criticism, feedback and bug reports! Uploaded a new build with lots of issues fixed. Not going to revise the footprint on the farms for this LD, but probably will do that if the game moves forward. Still one audio issue to fix, when too many sfx play at the same time.

This is pretty awesome. I love the simplistic nature of it yet it looks great. This is super solid for a LD game. If I had to nitpick there was a lot of space I couldn't use due to the shapes, and bad placement at the start. Maybe a next day button as well instead of losing your night cycle by watching the people on 4x.

Wow, I am really impressed by the graphics engine! It looks really nice to me.
It would be nice to be able to demolish buildings. After my first playthrough I wanted to squeeze in as many farms as possible and ended up with 2 or 3 pyramid workers, because there was no more room for houses.
Bugs:
-After you win the game, you are transported back to the credits. I assumed, that you could start a new game, but clicking shows the old game state with the workers cheering (maybe this isn't a bug at all :D )
-I maximized the game, won, closed it, startet again and it started maximized the second time. It also didn't resize back down (not an issue, but may be interesting in some way)
Everything refers to the windows version.

An ascii game? Impressive artwork. Well done ++

sararycow 2016-09-05 02:10

Even if pyramids is perhaps the most used subject of this LD the use of so well made ascii art makes this entry quite refreshing. Really impressive.

franklins-ghost 2016-09-06 13:31

Always impressed at your ascii art and how much you get across with it. Congrats on your first LD was a nice game if a bit simple, although definitely understandable with the time limits. Something I always have issues with in my entries.

Very interesting art style with the ascii art. I have no clue how the heck you managed to do that but the art itself is very very impressive. Good work!

Type text symbols until it looks correct! That's how I do it.
