Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Thanks, and sure thing!

kawzar 2016-09-01 04:19

This was hilarious! We started thinking "wat is this skid thing" and laughed with the tutorials, had to think the puzzles and the ending was great. Really enjoyable! That squid is certainly powerful! It was the most original and most fun games of the LD36 that we played :) The ending is awesome!!! Made us laugh a lot!!!
I'm surprised this doesn't have more comments :c

@kawzar Aw, thanks, this really means a lot to me! To be honest, I wasn't sure anyone would even get to the end, the level before it is a bit tricky. So, congrats, you made it and were apparently well rewarded! :p

Cool concept. I didn't get very far though, I just got to the area that starts with a wall you levitate, and I got stuck in the pit. It took me a while to figure out how to use the powers, because at first I thought the arrows were telling me to use WASD and then when I finally used the arrow keys, the key block to move was off-screen.

mine10blox 2016-09-03 00:34

Very fun! Probably my favorite, love the graphics, really nice gameplay, and a phenomenal amount of content for 72 hours! but next time, maybe not the level with a thousand falling blocks, too slow to render. overall, 96/100!

mottafier 2016-09-03 00:34

@Dietrich Epp Well thanks for trying :P (And, if you get stuck, R does restart a level)

mottafier 2016-09-03 00:35

@Mine10blox Thanks so much!!! And sorry, I got a bit carried away with the block placing I suppose :D

hellblazer 2016-09-03 02:19

Psychic Squid! Clearly a great game just for the title.

Original and fun concept, and fairly well executed. The only thing is that it would play better if, when you're standing on a block, you could just move the block by telekinesis and the squid would move with the block automatically.

Otherwise, a fun and amusing game. Good work!

kapricornmedia 2016-09-03 04:12

The puzzle mechanics in this game are super fun, I particularly like the one were you control like 60 blocks at the same time. The caveman death farts :)

dpumford 2016-09-03 04:37

@Mine10blox I actually really liked that level!

@Mottafier This is quite well made. I actually want to finish it. Any hints you're willing to give for the level after the level in your third screenshot?

Feedback-wise, it's kind of hard to see the blocks that the squid levitates. They blend in with the background.

Fun game, the mechanics were super satisfying, especially in the one puzzle where you just move a ton of blocks around. Overall, I had a lot of fun, and it was a great standalone experience. The puzzles were challenging, but not unfair meaning it was just the right amount of difficulty. The tie in with the theme and the whole telekinetic squid thing was a bit random, but let's face it, it's a game jam and you can make whatever story you want, even if it stars a blue squid that can move things with its mind.

All in all, great game, lots of fun, good satisfying challenges, nice art. Loved it.

paruthidotexe 2016-09-03 07:07

Good game with cool puzzle levels.. Loved the cave art in between the levels also the main character with its animation.
Less info/help to user but it is enough since this game genre is popular.
BTW Since this is .exe avast caught and send to lab to test and not allowed me play the game for hours.. lol.. finally played the game..

jk5000 2016-09-03 07:39

Thank you for sharing this amazing puzzle/platformer game. The puzzles is great, but I find some them a bit too difficult. But overall well done.

n42k 2016-09-03 08:07

Would love to play this, but I run Linux.

alkrimil 2016-09-03 09:32

Awesome concept! Interesting and simple mechanics that really suits puzzles well. Loved when you could move all those blocks around. Really great game, keep up the good work!

jonathang 2016-09-03 10:38

Wow this was really cool! I didn't know what to expect, but the telekinesis powers were fun and challenging to use, and there was good variety to the puzzles. The ending was just hilarious! Think I might replay it to try and get all the fire :)

jonathang 2016-09-03 10:54

Got all the fire, didn't seem to do anything though - except for a feeling of inner peace I suppose :)

mottafier 2016-09-03 12:28

@dpumford I'm so glad you want to finish it :p That level is a bit tricky, what you need to do is jump down near the caveman on the floor, and use psychic powers in the upwards direction. You'll find a hidden block :D. If that wasn't the problem, then you need to get right next to the green door, lift the block above the button, and as it falls and pushed the button, run through the door. Goodluck!

@ JonathanG My inner peace is now shattered, knowing someone put the work into getting all the secrets, and I couldn't even put the time into making a special ending. Thanks to you though, I think I will for a post-jam version :)

And a big thanks to everyone else too, all the good feedback makes we wish I had put even more into the game during the 72 hours. Now I know for next Ludum Dare :D

insality 2016-09-03 13:41

wow. the graphics is not so good, but level design and puzzles are awesome!
Really got fun from this. You absolutly should try draw more better graphics and sounds and make better game like this!

Live the concept and mechanics
good job, nice entry!

casevse 2016-09-03 13:41

Nice game. The mechanic has a lot of potential. Good work!

kableado 2016-09-03 14:00

Interesting mechanics, moving blocks, for this puzzle-plataformer. When I saw the first human running deeper into the cave I expected them to be a plot device, not simple enemies.

The movile blocks are too plain on the scene, drawing them like other kind of rock might make them stand out.

aaranos 2016-09-03 22:09

I found the game mechanics to be fun, but got stuck at the 3 lever puzzle. I tried for 5 minutes to get past it and just gave up after 40 or so attempts. I couldn't find the pattern for the life of me.

mottafier 2016-09-04 01:57

@Aaranos I'm sorry to hear that :P
If you are curious on the solution, you can fit in the space between the first two doors :D

darthbox1 2016-09-04 21:10

Well done! That was a really fun game. I enjoyed the puzzles and the graphic style. I didn't really have any issues apart from the movable blocks being a similar to the background. Could also have used a little more sound, but really cool!

darthbox1 2016-09-04 22:35

Forgot to mention that I loved the cave art and the sense if humour!

mottafier 2016-09-05 00:49

@darthbox1 Thanks!!!

marfis 2016-09-05 14:33

I really enjoyed this game! The concept is great and the implementation as well: it feels, sounds and looks good to be the telekinetic squid. (The squid sprite is very nice!)
The caverns sadly are too monotonous. Particularly the movable blocks could stand out more instead of everything being grey.

But the ending is genius!

genluck 2016-09-06 01:29

I love this game! It has great gameplay/pacing. However, the moveable blocks need to stand out more, and there were some blocks that were background that I thought were solid, causing me to think at first that the level was unbeatable. You should be able to move and telekinesis at the same time. The squid has a semi-outline around it. You should be able to get rid of that by turning off interpolate colors between pixels in global game settings, if you don't like it or have later issues. Despite all this, the tone was great, and the ending is definitely hilarious!

mottafier 2016-09-06 02:01

@genluck Thanks for the feedback! I'll make the blocks stand out more for sure, or if I ever do a future game with a similar concept. Glad you enjoyed it, and THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TELLING ME HOW TO REMOVE THE OUTLINE!!! This problem has been nagging me for so long but I think you've just saved me from it :)
