| Oct 6 17:59:52 | Trivia Hart in "The Case of the Porcelain Tricorn" | ♥ 3 | This was delightful; I love a good point and click. A few bugs popped up (most notably, the arrow above the stool seems to hate me) but nothing got in the way of beating the game. The Game&Watch part makes the game stand out without feeling too gimmicky, and although it kinda demands a redraw of each room, you managed to include a lot of rooms. The amount of spoken dialogue is crazy for a compo game, even for you. I imagine a quick post-compo with subtitles for my fellow ESLs could be a good idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjlkSQFEShI | |
| Oct 6 22:01:52 | 4h 02m | Invasive Spectral Projectiles | ♥ 1 | 1cc: Screenshot_20251006_235002.png Everything about the presentation is amazing and I had a ton of fun playing the game. The difficulty curve is too harsh; stage 1/3 feels like stage 3/5. The difference in difficulty between the stages isn't that substantial, unless you want to farm the "heart bats" in stage 3 I guess. The player sprite is huge and I still don't know where the hitbox is, and I definitely took a few hits that seemed to have come from nowhere. No iframes in a lives-based game with contact damage feels rough (would have been different if it was health-based). Pressing "Z" to advance to the next stage also triggers a bullet, which activates a red heart bat in stage 3; I don't know if that's intended but it is pretty funny. I really like those hearts in general for punishing spamming. The "continue" button not continuing in an arcade way is whatever for me, but will probably lose you some players. I almost didn't use the X key since it was too gimmicky/unpredictable and thus too likely to activate "heart bats". |
| Oct 8 16:45:21 | 42h 43m | The Grande Concoction | ♥ 2 | ydi.png Movement is way too floaty and unintended falling through a floor gap stopped being funny after the 20th time. It's not immediately obvious that you have to feed the cauldron in order. Good visuals. |
| Oct 8 17:46:43 | 1h 01m | 1 of 8,031,810,176 | ♥ 1 | I don't have much to say about the game, but it's definitely an experience. This cute collector probably has the largest collection out of all the collectors at this event. |
| Oct 8 20:17:40 | 2h 30m | Far Fetch | ♥ 1 | I usually loathe FPSes but had fun with this, especially stage 2 which was a solid puzzle. Love the pacing and the arcadiness. My only suggestion is, the timer should start with the first input, not immediately after restart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNvdeCTBM74 |
| Oct 8 21:36:20 | 1h 18m | Trash Catchers | ♥ 2 | Collected 10k before feeding a ship to a dragon: Screenshot_20251008_230529-1.png Cute game. Loved how the ships could "hug" each other though I think the rope should have had a limited length. |
| Oct 9 21:43:06 | 24h 06m | Crumbs | ♥ 2 | It took like 30 seconds to beat, but I had a lot of fun! I've played something like this before so I totally expected the color swap. Nice touch with showing fingerprint data. |
| Oct 9 22:02:27 | 19m 21s | Collect-o-maniac | ♥ 4 | Screenshot_20251009_235425.png Impeccable sound design and tons of fun. Reminds me of Dumb Ways To Die without the dying part. The amount of content is staggering. I can see every team member had a hand at the graphics, and I think that brought a lot of charm and positive chaos. |
| Oct 9 22:19:43 | 17m 16s | Biblio-Worm | ♥ 1 | Screenshot_20251010_001546.png Very pleasant game. A nice and unique play on the Donkey Kong formula. I have nothing constructive to say, though at the end I yearned for more levels. |
| Oct 9 23:13:13 | 53m 30s | Witch Solar | ♥ 2 | Screenshot_20251010_011035.png Reminiscent of WitchDelivr. Standing in one spot on the right kind of breaks the game but in a fun way. Good job given the indisposition. |
| Oct 9 23:27:45 | 14m 32s | Meowlloween | ♥ 1 | Audiovisuals are amazing. The gameplay loop is quite fun although I think the punishment aspect is too strong and I wish there was a better way to mitigate it, or iframes. |
| Oct 10 10:55:14 | 11h 27m | Collector of Souls | ♥ 1 | Funny, funny |
| Oct 10 19:16:48 | 8h 21m | Quit Stalin | ♥ 25 | Don't give this guy any more attention, and don't bestow heart karma on him. You may have come here because he commented under your game, or because he has 285 karma at the time of writing–but he didn't play your game, and I'm half-convinced he has never played a single Ludum Dare game other than his own. When he's active, his "ratings given" counter increases by about one every 4 minutes, which is nowhere near enough time to download and play a game, leave a rating and comment–and comment he does: Screenshot_20251010_203314.png image.png image.png image.png Screenshot_20251010_204515.png Screenshot_20251010_204446.png Screenshot_20251010_204718.png Screenshot_20251010_204811.png Screenshot_20251010_204900.png Screenshot_20251010_204911.png These comments weren't selected. They were the first 10 comments I encountered, and that didn't take long. You'd be hard-pressed to find a comment of his that doesn't look like that; I've never seen one personally. Leaving one-liner comments isn't inherently bad, but if someone collects (!! is this a Ludum Dare 58 meta-game?) almost 300 karma in a few days, and every. single. comment is so insubstantial, so empty that it could have been written after merely glancing at a screenshot, or not even–then something doesn't seem right. My game can take less than a minute to complete if you aren't particularly committed to it, and the end screen has a little request to the commenter, a request which obviously hasn't been honored by Eugenik who only commented "Amazing art!!!." under an experimental mini-game where art is the weakest link. Opportunists who game the system show up at every Ludum Dare, but Eugenik is a repeat offender that has done this for years. In fact, if you've been around here for some time, you probably recognize him. Perhaps his most egregious comment was "nice humor" under a tearjerker game about playing the piano: Screenshot_20251010_204050.png I will repost this comment every semi-annum until this guy gets in line or leaves the community. Fake rating spammers are a net negative and hurt the spirit of the event. |
| Oct 10 20:29:13 | 1h 12m | Fallen Leaves | ♥ 1 | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F1g8jiD5Bo Very cute, and a pretty unique take on the theme. I enjoyed this game a lot. I think each bag should have had a capacity slightly larger than "100%" so it wouldn't feel so meticulous (and therefore unrealistic); in real life, one would move the bags around, and there would be no need to blow a single leaf across the entire plot just because the closest bag is "full". |
| Oct 10 21:53:05 | 1h 23m | The Headpatting Cat Collector | ♥ 1 | The cat models are very cute. There isn't much gameplay, but there is some potential for an idle/incremental game. |
| Oct 11 00:26:40 | 2h 33m | [blank] | ♥ 2 | Not sure if I beat the game. I got a "05102025.txt" on the virtual desktop, and the source code is 404. I love the music and the tone it gives, still somewhat whimsical and fittingly out-of-place, and yet dissonant. I wish the static mode actually did anything (maybe I missed something?) but I dig this type of horror metagame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UL4di7zq8U |
