| Apr 5 23:44:22 | Necropocalypse | ♥ 3 | I was able to figure out the traps pretty quickly. It looks like a ton of the items people have mentioned here are likely fixed in the post-jam edition, so I won't mention those. I enjoyed myself a lot but found a pretty simple solution. I created kind of a 5 shape and littered it with fire traps. The enemies didn't really handle the corners well and the cooldowns were short enough to leave them bloody. As for other bugs, I did notice that my bones went above 300, up to about 1640 by the time I stopped. My suggestions would be to try to improve the cornering (though I know pathing is a nightmare) and maybe allow for an enemy type that tries to break traps since I think that's pretty common in tower defense style games. I wasn't sure if they would just keep coming (since the theme implies they might) so once it looked like I wasn't going to die, I just exited. Would love to know if there's more that I missed. Overall great job! Really fun to play and for the short time, the art style and music are fun - it turned out awesome. I hope you all continue to work on it and thank you for playing The Apocawiz and leaving feedback! :) Congrats on submitting! | |
| Apr 6 09:06:17 | 9h 21m | Live For Later Or Live For Now | ♥ 2 | Posted this same comment to itch because I thought that was this. Either way! Good jorb! It was good. I died. :) Just like in real life I can play video james and look at tvs and check stonks. Very good. Would die again. Also the music is top notch and it's a very effective concept. The design does a nice job of pulling you in and making you feel a real sense of dread as you make your way towards the inevitable. My second round was definitely more joyous though. :) |
| Apr 7 05:32:32 | 20h 26m | [Don't] Prune the Money Tree | ♥ 2 | Congrats on finishing! I really enjoyed playing this. The art and the music were both terrific. I really loved the vibe that the music gave off and despite how it ramps up when you're getting close to failing it all still felt very relaxing. The concept was well executed and it makes sense for the theme. I really liked that a lot. In terms of the gameplay I was very relaxed and managed to keep the plant going for nearly ten minutes. I don't know if there's a cap but based on the theme, I didn't think so. It was a really enjoyable play, but I do have a couple of suggestions for future revisions. The shop menu was pretty much out of sight out of mind. By the time I remembered it existed, I didn't have the ability left to use it. Maybe have their be an alert if the player hasn't used it yet after a minute or two? Just to remind them it's there. A similar thing goes for the monitor. It seemed like it would be useful to check, but off to the side that way, I didn't want to leave the tree. Lastly I think the pruning indicators might catch some people as misleading. I know that it just means they're mature but it gives the player the impression that it's "okay to cut" and it seemed like I was harming the plant when I was cutting "good" branches. I'm sure that's unintentional, but I think that can be fixed. In terms of a jam game this is super polished and well put together. I hope you all keep working on it and thank you again for playing and rating The Apocawiz! :) |
| Apr 7 10:06:05 | 4h 33m | Chtonic Arhipelago | ♥ 3 | The art style and music were both really well done and contribute to the mood. Procedurally generated stuff is wizardry to me, so this is very nicely done in the time allotted! Similar to someone else's procedural mishap, I did have my pickaxe and axe blocked by trees so that I couldn't see them the first time I played. It may be something in the future to just make sure that initial spawn area is clear/has trees/etc. That minor issue aside, coming away from a jam with a game that really gives the feeling of a famous indie in 3 days time is extremely impressive. You all should be very proud. Thanks for playing/reviewing The Apocawiz. I appreciate it! And congrats on finishing the jam! :) |
| Apr 7 10:18:03 | 11m 58s | Snowcastle Meltdown | ♥ 1 | First I just want to say congratulations! If I'm reading this right, it was your first game! That's awesome! I think you did a nice job putting this together. The concept comes together well and some of the other commenters already made good points regarding possible changes. I agree that it did feel like the was an optimal path so it may make sense to time out the caves the way you time out the traders for a bit in order to force the player to explore a bit more. Looking forward to more LD's for you! :) Congrats on finishing and thanks again for playing and commenting on The Apocawiz! |
| Apr 7 10:27:56 | 9m 53s | Earworm Jam | ♥ 4 | Had a lot of fun playing this and it's a really cool and inventive concept that fits the theme perfectly. I did have some pretty major audio issues (in Chrome) and even reloading didn't solve them. Oddly having it open in another tab that I wasn't looking at caused the audio to play perfectly. Not sure if that helps you track it down, but hopefully it's helpful! Great job and congrats on finishing! |
| Apr 7 10:43:26 | 15m 30s | Quota Qrunch | ♥ 3 | Incredibly creepy and fun to play. Reminded me a lot of Blendo Games, which I love. It also reminded me of a friend's game Bucket Detective - so much so that I just had to re-look at the names to make sure I didn't miss that he worked on this. Haha. Really fun stuff. Fit the theme well and was really innovative. Thanks again for playing and rating The Apocawiz. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Congrats on finishing! |
| Apr 10 05:27:40 | 66h 44m | Aliens...S | ♥ 2 | That was a good time! I felt like the theme was clearly implemented and the game overall played without a hitch. I got to about round 5. Don't know if that's good or bad - but it felt like I was doing pretty well. I was a little unclear on what pickups were what. Sometimes I thought the blue was health, other times it seemed like a weapon upgrade. I'm pretty sure it was health and the parts were upgrades, but sometimes it seemed like health changed my weapon? I liked the alert letting me know that the alt-weapon was ready. In a post-jam version it would be great to know which weapon you have, maybe Contra style. Overall it was just a really fun experience. Thanks again for playing and leaving feedback on The Apocawiz. And congrats on finishing the jam! |
| Apr 11 23:15:41 | 41h 48m | Mushrooms of the end | ♥ 1 | Wow. I thought I posted this but didn't press enter, I guess. Whoops! Here's the review: I enjoyed myself with this! It took me a bit to figure out that holding the mouse vs. clicking was the difference between water and smashing bugs. Also that first wave was quite the hilarious shock, so I appreciated the warning that pops up. I played it a few times and made it to the second level with the additional mushrooms, but couldn't quite get the hang of keeping more than the original alive. Still a really fun experience and a good, simple idea that is executed well. Congrats on finishing! And thanks again for feedback and review on The Apocawiz! I really appreciate it! |
| Apr 12 01:21:04 | 2h 05m | Settlers & Prophecies | ♥ 1 | Ran through it a few times and had fun doing so. I definitely agree that placing the harbor was confusing (I actually was never able to do it). Building on only one side of the road was also a bit confusing. I'm not sure it makes sense to have the fields only work where there is road, but I get that you have to set up the mechanic somehow. As a suggestion, you may want to include what the cost of things like the Rodent Control will be, since the initial cost is all that is listed. Likewise, knowing what the taxes on the Inn and Market will bring in would be helpful. Graphics were great. Music was cool, but I did experience the stuttering you mention. Overall it's a solid experience and I hope you continue to develop on it. In terms of a building sim it's pretty incredible that you put all this together in such a short time! Congrats and thanks for playing/commenting on Apocawiz! |
| Apr 12 02:19:15 | 58m 11s | Mow Bot | ♥ 1 | I had a LOT of fun playing this. Took me a bit to figure out exactly what was being asked but I picked it up. I also didn't quite understand at first that you could move the mow bot to another place to start. It also didn't matter, I had a blast pretty much the whole time. The music and graphics were good, but really it was the fun of solving the puzzles that kept me the most engaged. Very simple. Extremely engaging. Loved it. Thanks for playing Apocawiz and leaving such kind feedback! And CONGRATS on finishing the jam! |
| Apr 13 09:12:11 | 30h 52m | Buhanochka Z | ♥ 1 | I agree the controls and camera are pretty floaty so it makes it very difficult to escape the pursuing enemies. I think the music does a really good job of enhancing the deadly mood as does the lighting/artwork. I ran it a few times and once I got the hang of the controls a bit more I was able to survive for a while. Congrats on finishing! :) |
| Apr 13 09:17:18 | 5m 07s | Fortold | ♥ 1 | "Well that happened." :D I think the humor is really the part that sticks out the most for me with this one. I chuckled multiple times - "...into the Time Fire to appease the Time God" (of course!). I delight in the silly, so this description was very up my alley. I'm sorry you didn't get as far as you wanted, but I think the concept is really good and I liked the sort of stealth-ish gameplay it seemed like you were leaning towards. Thanks for reviewing and commenting on The Apocawiz. Sorry it took me a bit to respond! |
| Apr 13 09:36:23 | 19m 05s | Holding On | ♥ 1 | Really loved the artwork and the music. This is a super interesting way to interpret the theme as well. I feel like this came together and is a remarkably polished and complete piece. You should be super proud of this - I hope you are. Congrats on finishing! And thank you for playing and rating The Apocawiz. I really appreciate it. |
