| Apr 30 17:23:04 | Humble Miner | ♥ 2 | Pretty relaxing little game; easy to just absentmindedly delve deeper while listening to the music. I wasn't sure if my torches were doing anything since they don't seem to light the floor around them. I would have liked some sort of objective, or threats/obstacles, some challenge to overcome. By the time I tried to repair my pickaxe, it would have cost 5100, way more than I could afford. Nice job! | |
| Apr 30 17:51:49 | 28m 45s | Memory Dive | ♥ 1 | I love the visual aesthetic and atmosphere of this game. The music really helped set the mood, although it only came out of one speaker for me. It took me awhile to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but going back and reading the entry's description cleared it up. An in-game explanation would have been nice. This is obviously a story-focused game, but the gameplay unfortunately competes with the story, instead of helping to tell it. Dodging the obstacles prevents the player from really focusing on the story. The "correct" memories seemed arbitrary, and it was annoying having to read through them all over again to find the "correct" one. Once the "correct" memory appeared, it was too long to read while avoiding the obstacles, so I couldn't follow the narrative. Nevertheless it was certainly a unique and atmospheric experience. Good job! |
| Apr 30 20:59:08 | 3h 07m | Sword Whisperer | ♥ 3 | This game is really fun! Shooting the sword and guiding it behind the enemy shields is very satisfying. I loved gathering my army of sword-missiles, and then scurrying to pick them up when I ran out. I like the retro graphics as well. And I love that the swords stay in the enemies until they die; seeing a monster chasing after me with a bunch of swords stuck in him is truly beautiful. Occasionally my sword seemed to go through enemies without damaging them. Also, sometimes my sword would fly back to me when I didn't want it to; I think I was keeping my mouse too close to my character. At one point I lured the shield enemies against a wall, then hid on the opposite side and killed them while they stood totally still, unable to get to me. Maybe that's a legitimate strategy? I felt like I was being cheap, but it was still satisfying. The camera is a bit slow to follow the character; there were a few times when I ran right up to the edge of the screen and was damaged by an enemy who was offscreen a second earlier. I could circumvent the issue by using my sword as a scout, which was kind of funny. The music fit the retro vibe, but it was very repetitive and not very interesting. Those are all minor complaints, though. I started playing it again after I beat it because it's so fun. Great work! |
| Apr 30 22:00:22 | 1h 01m | The Deepest Dungeon | ♥ 1 | The Gameboy aesthetic is spot-on. Great pixel art and music; it really looks and sounds like an old handheld game. I had never heard of "clicker games" before, so my criticisms are probably more relevant to the genre than your game in particular. That said, since there was no challenge or choices or story or significant player agency, I didn't have fun and didn't really understand how it was a game. Once you buy the "auto" ability you can just stop playing. Maybe if the enemies got cooler, or the environments changed significantly, it would be fun to just watch stuff happen. But by the time I got to level 5 the only developments were that the enemies took longer to die, even after leveling up my weapons, so I just ended up watching my character stand next to idle enemies for longer and longer. Clearly this type of game is just not for me. The presentation was excellent. |
| May 3 16:35:05 | 66h 34m | Falling Bot | ♥ 3 | I had fun with this short and simple game. I didn't realize you could fly up, or destroy platforms, until reading some of the comments, but once I understood the mechanics they were easy to use. I wasn't always sure which objects were in the background, and which objects I had to avoid. Catching the canisters was difficult, but fun-- although I beat the game with almost a full tank, so chasing them wasn't terribly important. |
| May 3 18:53:01 | 2h 17m | Crypt Raider | ♥ 3 | I had a lot of fun with this game, particularly with the first three levels. I love the concept and atmosphere. Exploring tombs, striking down skeletons with torches, all great. I did not expect 2D skeletons, but I like them. The music and skeleton sounds all fit very nicely. It was very dark, and the environments all look very similar, so I had difficulty knowing where I was at times. I got to the end of level 4 many times without realizing it-- I thought it was a new room, and I didn’t think to turn left. I don’t mind difficulty, but I felt the later levels were unfair. I was often killed by skeletons who appeared right before me. Sometimes skeletons walked inside of each other as a single unit, so I struck down one skeleton only to be killed by the hidden second skeleton. The fifth level in particular seemed unfair-- the skeletons could activate the arrow traps, but they couldn’t be hurt by them. Timing my runs through the arrow traps became impossible when the skeletons kept blocking my way, so by the time I managed to complete it, it felt more like a stroke of luck than anything. Nevertheless, I really liked the first few levels. The breakable wall mechanic was introduced well. I would definitely play more of this game, especially if there was a bit more exploration. Great job! |
