I was so enraptured by this game that I forgot my constant anxiety for a few minutes. Thank you! I know you are working on other games, but perhaps you could do a small scale steam release like Theyest Thou?
When I play a top down shooter my focus has always been on the movement of the character, so this game is perfectly suited to my taste in that respect and I think it is a great strength here that the player is not so focused on aiming projectiles.
wish list for a full release: Reel in mechanic , like batman's belt grappling hook, but for murder - could be an upgrade Cross Code style platforming to make the terrain more interesting Dash/ roll mechanic
I played the web version (the web version of my game has a weird bug, maybe that happens to other people too?) In my opinion the game lacked necessary player feedback. I could not tell if the objects on the screen were enemies or point tokens? Nothing seemed to happen when my bullets hit those objects so I don't know if shooting them was good or bad. The VU meter on the left hand side didn't seem to mean anything as far as I could tell.
I adore the graphics, reminds me of Crawl which is one of my favorites. I wish there were rouge style random potions to add variation to the game. The concept is great and I could see myself spending many hours playing this if there were more variety.
This is definitely in my top three games of the jam! More Please!
@Cookie-CHR Thanks! There is a duplication bug in the HTML version when you stack instruments which makes it way too easy, but also we dialed back all the difficulty at the last second. This is our second Jam and the last one we did everyone said the game was too hard, so we erred on the side of caution. Really glad you enjoyed it!
@skyeward Thanks for playing and linking the stream! It was really great to see someone play it and the feed back was truly helpful. Thanks so much!
There are so many questions about the story behind a world that led to drones in the streets searching for cats. I adore that fantastical aspect of the game world.
Small Critique: Engaging with the core gameplay mechanic actually made winning the level almost impossible. It is much easier to simply walk through the level than it is to try and manipulate the loops. Which discourages players from actually using the mechanic. Also using F as the action key can cause the player to take their fingers off of the D key when they need to pick something up. The gameplay would be smoother if you moved the action key further away from the directional buttons which would encourage the player to use both of their hands to control ; the result of which would be continuous movement while picking up objects making it easier to avoid the robots.
I really enjoyed the graphics very much and over all it felt very polished. Well Done!
Critique: Music Please! Please move the cycle button from the tab key. When I use the tab key I have to move my hand away from WASD and the spacebar which interrupts the gaming experience. The current set up only requires one hand, alter it to use both hands and you will engage the player more. for example you could control it using the arrow keys; when no key is held down it defaults to Comment Out // when you hold down one of the arrow keys a different operator is selected. Also I would like it if when you zap a baddie the score appears as floating numbers above their head for a second. Graphical feedback is fun and it will help new players figure out what is happening.
