LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Awesome concept. I think I got lucky and won on the 3rd try. Way to think outside the box and give players a different perspective. Cool game.

I like the concept of keeping the progress after death. The enemies that start in inconvenient places can be a bit annoying, but a challenge as well. When the enemies hurt you after they're already dead or when the enemies draw you back into them after you hit them (maybe some knock-back bug sending them the wrong direction?) really frustrates.

I didn't notice much of a boost after playing some time. A progress bar toward that next level might keep more engaged.

I really like the music and graphics. Good luck!

Thank you all for the praise! Jake did all the writing, so I'll pass it on.

It was my first Ludum Dare, so I definitely learned a bit about prioritizing my time. I've talked to a few people and already had some of my own ideas on how to improve the UI with more time.

@patrick Good catch! I just tested it and it'll get caught in a bad state if you check the Dossier mid conversation, but not if you check it at the beginning/end (when the advisor/robot is talking). I'd say that's a feature..., but it's definitely not. I added the dossiers in there as I figured it'd be better for quick use during Ludum Dare, but I had a few ideas of what could be done in a more rounded out game.

@artur-hawking, @sylver-kovy Yeah, it's a bit of a different take. We're saying the more nobles you invite, the harder the game is at it means remembering more information and an increased possibility you may get someone to turn against you and make it even more difficult. Right now it just means setting your own difficulty, but with more of a campaign the timing of swinging particular nobles could be important.

Greedy Merchants by jlreymendez 2017-12-11T23:14:32Z

Interesting game! Way to get an AI done in such a short time frame!

I am a bit confused on the mechanics. I get the basics after reading the in game text, but the finer details I still don't get. Why are the significance of the two scores? How much do I get/lose from taking ships? I tried to watch the scores to figure it out, but it was difficult remembering my score and the opponent's score while colliding and doing the math real time during play. It looks like if my ship is taken I lose 10 of the flag and 5 of the coin. What is taken of the opponent's gold?

Minor bug: If I chose a non-red color (not the first option), I continue the game and press start with the red color selected I get my old color.

I may just suck at playing games, but I also find myself getting caught on walls which was pretty frustrating. Maybe it could just preserve the last direction for the next intersection and not turn toward walls?

Anyway, awesome game.
