This was such a blast! One suggestion -- maybe instead of space to shoot once charged, just releasing the mouse click? Also i wish that there was an alternative for the right mouse (right mouse is a bit of a pain for macbooks 😅 )
This is fantastic. During the tutorial I wasn't sure what this was going to be, but as soon as I tried my first battle I was hooked.
So incredibly fun to play. Well done!
Super fun!
Really nice game!
That was a neat roguelike sea battle game! very smooth, the AI was reasonable without being too impossible or stupid. Overall good entry!
Good roguelike battle ship game.
The upgrades are interesting, the navigation of the ship is smooth.
I like the graphics and the fact that you can remap inputs.
I think there should be another method for aim and shoot, holding the mouse on any side of the ship and releasing the mouse button to fire.
Great overall !
Having to turn the whole ship to line up a broadside sounds like a good way to make positioning matter. I also like that a bad voyage still leaves you with something to put into the next one.
Left my ratings. If you have a moment, we'd appreciate a rating on our game too: [Robot Workshop](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/60/trashfight).
I really enjoyed the way the combat mechanics force you to consider positioning, especially the need to fully turn the ship to get a proper broadside. It makes every voyage feel risky, but knowing you can refit and trade afterwards gives the whole journey a great sense of persistent purpose!
Really interesting mix of familiar genres and mechanics! I'd absolutely love to play a full-fledged version of this, with different ship types, weapons, boarding crews, and all that good stuff.
A few things I found a bit awkward, though:
The fonts on the cards and dock upgrades are a little too decorative. I'd keep them for headings and use something more readable for the descriptions.
Also, there's no UI on the main gameplay screen. Is that intentional? I never quite figured out how much HP my ship had.
The progression map is a bit hard to navigate, too, since all you know about the upcoming stages is a bunch of question marks. Usually, a map like that lets you plan your route based on what's ahead. But that's more of a concern for a full release than a jam version, of course.
Seriously awesome game. Great job!
And hey, any chance you'd be interested in teaming up to develop it further? I'd absolutely love to draw some ships for this! :D
I really liked it, I was especially surprised by the clever opponents who are really trying to kill you, they are spinning and spinning, also happy about the possibility of travel and a large choice, I came not so far, maybe there are more opponents than 1 ship, but I really want more diverse enemies
I like this roguelike about ships: the controls are simple but not trivial, easy to learn and hard to master, and you pick a path and fight other ships. There are several enemy ship types, and every sunk ship gives resources you can spend in the hub on upgrades. There are a few upgrades, they're decent and offer some variety (a repair crew or a crew that charges the cannons faster at low health). There's also a reward system for each cleared node, a quick upgrade for that specific run. One thing I didn't quite get is the cells: whether I went to a search, escort or shop node, it was always a simple fight and a choice of the next branch. Still, a really enjoyable game, looking forward to seeing it grow!
Really nice game! Great job
Very solid entry in terms of gameplay. A lot of content for such short jam which works mostly good. I think tutorial missed information about Codex, so I suffered through first sails without knowing how to check my health, and not having any indication wasn't helping either. Also, felt that balance might be adjusted a bit, since at the moment it feels somewhat punishing having to be able to get wiped on third battle in few seconds even with some upgrades. But otherwise that's really fun to play game.
Didn't expect it to be a roguelike! The sounds and visuals are top-notch 💯
