I think the windows download link is bugged? I can't get it to download at least.

@cardsnapper thank you for letting me know. I uploaded it to itch as well, hopefully it works for you!

This is very impressive. Original and funny gameplay. Sense of urgency and suspense because of the fact that one must inevitably guess a little bit. Just enough graphics to make it cute, enjoyable and clear. And maths ! This should be used in school ! Taxulator.png

Ah god dang it, I forgot to hit the record button in OBS.

Okay, so big wall of text in lieu of a video:

Playing the game in ultrawide honestly worked out fine. I wish there was a non-fullscreen alternative (I think that contributed to my OBS hotkey not starting the recording?), but the fullscreen didn't ruin anything. No text was off-screen or anything.

My ADHD brain took way too long to figure out what to do, and how to gain information. I also pent slike, a whole day just moving upwards off the map, which didn't help. heh.

On my first run I scored zero points. I learned some names, and figured out around day 9 how to get their jobs and stuff.

On my second run, I actually did get the full info of three people, and taxed them correctly. I got around 7000 points, but I forgot the full number. (I *really* wish the video recorded...) I started panicking around day 8 and ended up under-taxing many people, but I scored pretty well.

I wish there was some ambient noise or music. Maybe a day-long loop, where you could know people's schedules by hearing a motif in the melody or something, that would be cool.

Nice game!

Good job on this one, it's pretty original and the animations are just top notch. I really liked the fact that you can rearrange the little papers however you want. 10 days are really short to manage to get a decent score, maybe add some more time?

This town is lucky, I was the worst tax collector ever. Except Bernard, he payed the 13 he owed to the government. I don't care about the others, as long as bernard pays his taxes, I'm happy. I'm as happy as I'm high (because of my long legs)

super cool game I loved it <3

I've fallen in love with this visual style. The Tax Collector turned out absolutely amazing. It's great to see such a polished and complex game!

The animation of the tax collector made me laugh. The visual style is cool. I also went to travel beyond the borders of the map.

Interesting concept, but there’s a noticeable lack of usability. In the end, I managed to properly count only one resident. Overall, it feels like a project that’s a bit too ambitious for a compo. For some reason, it slightly reminded me of Shadows of Doubt. The main character’s animations were a real delight =)

I like the concept and gameplay loop a lot! The artwork of the tax collector with his long legs is also amazing (though the animation is a bit too much for my personal taste). I think this game is great, but it also took me few runs to finally understand how it works. I did not understand how taking notes works and gathering information almost felt random. It might be helpful if there would be an icon over the head of citizens if a note worthy action takes place and also if the location were easier too read (maybe just with simple text). So when I see someone entering a school, I could deduce that they might be a teacher. It also seems all citizens start work at the same time. It might be interesting if some people are working different shifts, so there might be someone around all the time. But again, overall I think this is a great entry.

Nice game! I played till the end of day 10. My score wasn't that high, around 4600, but I figured out how to play and collected correct taxes from 1 person.

I think this game feels more like a job than a game. It's fun watching a simulation of a town, and it's fun watching animation of the tax collector. But all the tasks you do are collecting information, calculation and presenting your results. The game lacks decision making.

Maybe if you collected the taxes too well, the people would lose the homes and go live on the streets, or change their diets to something less expensive. That could enable some decision making I think.

Also, I found it difficult to read long text messages because they're in all capitals. Maybe you could have chosen a different font that's easier to read.

At first I didn't quite catch how to find out where people work. It was also hard to read long text panels at first, but somehow I managed to understand how to play by day three. It is kind of fun and i really like the animations.

The walking animation for the tax collector is simply fantastic, no notes. This is a really clever take on the theme and I like the note-taking system! The subtle humor thrown in there is great too. It took a bit to figure out exactly how the systems worked and how to figure out the day to day activities of the townspeoples ("income units") but it feels satisfying to work it out! Great work!

Animation and visual are so good. I'm delighted, the game really suited me.

ciphereo 2025-10-22 13:56

It's really well done. The animation is very funny. The tall tax collector is so amusing!

boshlonavish 2025-10-23 14:17

Really charming graphics. Interesting and unique gameplay, but the 10 day limit feels a tad too restrictive

palerus7 2025-10-23 18:36

Love it, even though a bit too muc work for me to get done in the time limit... Still really cool!
