Congratulations on making it into LD and posting a game!

This is a solid start, wish there was sound as it's a little lonely (which you've addressed, looking forward to V2!) and I'd appreciate a more variable jump height (where you release the button before the apex of your jump to cancel it). Really those are the only things I can think of that you could improve. There's a lot to like here: a nice cohesive art style to the game, plenty of environments, solid control, a chunky number of levels and an interesting hook. Ya nailed it!

@mavvy Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I want to add some sounds, and also the jump height variation.

Overall, pretty decent game, I enjoyed it

LD version has this error after it finishes loading "Failed to read the 'serviceWorker' property from 'Navigator': Service worker is disabled because the context is sandboxed and lacks the 'allow-same-origin' flag."

Going to go check the itch version.

Edit: Finished the itch version. I like how there were so many different ways to explore the areas and the size changing was neat. Definitely needs music and some parts were confusing, like sometimes I was not sure where to go. If possible, it would also be nice if there was a way to tell if the items were (spoiler) based on their location and appearance, but I know that can be really hard to accomplish without being painfully obvious or so confusing the player has to guess instead of think.

Fine little platformer, wish there could be more to do by changing sizes (for example, carrying heavy objects by being big), but it's a good start.

ggross 2024-10-13 15:55

Nice game! I like the different environment design (desert, volcano etc). The mechanism of size control is interesting, and I hope it can be more deeply developed in the levels!

appreacherone 2024-10-13 16:01

@kobato-games I don't know why it is behaving like this, it worked fine for the others who played it. And yes, if it is not working, just use the itch version instead.

appreacherone 2024-10-13 16:08

@ggross @tele I don't think I'll go into the size-control thing any further, as I consider this part of the game to be finished (the story is this short, etc.). However, I thought I'd release the source code, so that anyone can add to the game at their leisure. Also, feel free to publish these modified versions (just give credits to me), or give them to me to release on my itch page (with credits for you, of course).

I think you had a really cohesive vision for a full experience here, which is hard to do for a game jam. Good job with that.

If there was a way to tell the difference between the correct and incorrect choices, I did not notice it. That's sort of required for the choices to be meaningful.

appreacherone 2024-10-13 17:34

@zyrconium There are no spirits at the good choices. Also, the bad choices are miscolored, but it is impossible to spot, because you don't know the right colors. In V2.0 (the next version), I will add these things: a backstory (with images about the items), sounds and music, and a variable jump height. If there are something more, that you, or anybody else want to see in the game, just write it down. I will consider its add.

Wow! What a great game, I like the design, the concept of the game and everything is very cool!

nicolas-diniz 2024-10-14 17:14

Controls are nice. The story and world make sense. Apart for one shard, I did everything at full size. I wish the changing size mechanic was more used. Overall, very well done !

sp1d3rb0y 2024-10-14 17:25

Nice idea, greatly executed! Wish there were more disadvantages for being tall or small, like having to deal with your weight (walking on clouds for example). Was blocked at the end in front of a door, maybe I made the wrong choices? That was a neat experience though, had fun!

appreacherone 2024-10-15 13:04

@sp1d3rb0y Yeah, I forgot to add an interaction popup at the ending door, you should press E to open it. This, and other fixes and improvements will be present in the Post-LD 2.0 version

Like your idea. I see unlimitied potential for a full blown game! Congrats!

nice

prostocupoftea 2024-10-20 09:44

Cute little game, couldnt get the true ending even when i payed attention so ghosts would 100% be around the item. Also, you never know how important music is untill you dont have it-

Overall a nice experience, cute concept for a platformer!

paul-maxime 2024-10-20 12:21

I didn't understand why the size changing ability was useful since I could finish the entire game in max size, then I realized the tutorial lied to us and we actually had to find other gems without spirits. :D

It took me a looong time to find the true infernal shard, it looks exactly like the walls so it's nearly invisible, I only got it by jumping randomly in the area to find some kind of a secret passage. I even tried to get inside the jars while small in case it was hidden inside!

dianavi 2024-10-20 17:18

Original concept that corresponds to the theme; it's cool for a platformer! ^^

chuchugeralt 2024-10-21 21:46

Nice game! Really liked the idea of changing the size of the character. If would have been even more interessting to see more options to incorporate that feature.

Also: I´m really sad that I didn´t help the poor spirits!
