interesting idea!
- **For other players:** Be patient! It took quite a while to load on itch, with no loading bar. - **For author:** You probably want to adjust both github and itch links so they're clickable (full https uri) ---
Very nice game! I loved the art-style. You must have a lot of skill/practice to make so much art so quickly!
My favorite parts: - The art style. - The ending! - Enemies! I actually ran head-first into everything I could find to see if anything was dangerous. Pleasantly surprised that there was.
Suggestions: - I think the game-loop would have benefited a lot from 'lives' (3 hospital visits and it's game-over). Traveling back and forth was not *that* engaging, and I think having lives would already make it way more intense - Better affordance on enemies so it was clearer what was dangerous - A rechargeable 'boost' mechanic could have made the movement more engaging - SFX/Music would have been nice. It's too bad you couldn't get that working!
Anyways, superb job :v:
I think the turtle could benefit from an extra frame for movement, or leave some kind of particle like a bubble behind him from time to time. Maybe have a package show up on the turtles back, or having another object being dragged behind it. I think the board could have the actual image of what you are looking for, not just the name. I like the zoom on the next target, but still would like to have an arrow pointing towards them and the office, possibly only if you are more than a screen away to still let them explore the immediate vicinity. I feel like the sharks weren't scary enough, if you're supposed to avoid them that would help with delivering that message. I think the angler fish was scarier than the sharks.
@sirlich Thank you so much for the kind and useful feedback! I spent most of this jam on the art :D so ended up kinda neglecting the gameplay/mechanics. Your suggestions sound like good improvements to the game.
@ellaris Thanks for the feedback :) I did intend on animating some of the characters along with VFX but just ran out of time. In the end I decided against an indicator to encourage exploration but I see your point. Thanks for playing
My respect for custom engine! What a breathtaking story. Controls could be more responsive but very good for Compo.
I really enjoy this kind of art. It was really pleasant to play. I also think this game could use the 3 lives instead of being delivered to the hospital. I kinda get lost in the sea, so maybe a map or an arrow couuld be useful. Great job!
Such a cute art! Hospital idea is so funny. Also enjoyed atmosphere and appreciated the details such as ocean getting darker if you go deeper.
I cracked up when I first arrived at the hospital! The unique art style was refreshing and the game was executed well. There's some improvement points you would've probably done with time (animation of the turtle swimming, sounds effects when enemies arrive, indicators that they are enemies, ocean music). Was a fun game to play and I actually wanted to complete it.
The art is really appealing! Love the feeling of exploration during delivery. How did you make it with custom engine?
@jamesw Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've been working on my own engine on and off for the past year. It's written in c++ and uses OpenGL for the graphics. I do intend on releasing it on Github in the future for others to potentially use but I want to fix some things and add some features before that point :) you can take a look at the source code for this game to get a rough idea of the engine's API
I love how expansive the main game level is and the different eye candy in the level (especially the sunken ship). I did get a little lost when trying to find the octopus though so maybe a arrow indicator or something that points the way to where I need to go might help with that. The cave idea was also really cool and what was there really surprised me! Nice work!
This one was nice. My favorite part was the ocean getting darker as you got deeper and the threat of danger that comes from the sharks makes for a very nice feel, not sure what happens if they get you as I always dodged them. Had a moment where there was no fish or background for longer than I liked but that was small. Loved the ending.
I see turtle, i click on it (i luv turtles) played the game, shark went to walls >.>.. loads of times went into the hospital. Ending made me sad. Though loved the art and the gameplay
can't load the game
(I cannot rate it therefore)
Edit: Finally loaded but it took so much time!
It was a surprise, it is one of those games with an ending! I found it all very original, congratulations!
I rated it with a high score
@ddesigndude @raggedyjam Thank you so much for the kind comments.
@boeruchan well I can tell you the turtle happily survived with just a few bruises ;)
@josemwarrior yeah it does take a while unfortunately. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
looks great! enjoyed the exploration, though i was honestly getting a lil scared going deeper underwater haha. the movement felt alright, could have done with some spice. overall great job!
It's cool how the atmosphere changes the deeper you go. I liked it!
Hah I love the ending, so good!! My favorite bit is how you had it pan to the recipient when we visit the post office -- makes it so much easier to search out where to deliver the package. Lovely lil game, very well done and super cute!!
Very cute artwork. I like turtles. Would have been nice to have some visual to indicate the package had been delivered.
