Looks nice! However I’m only able to fire missiles straight to the right. Is that on purpose? I imagine there should be a way to aim, but I can’t find it and I don’t see anything in the instructions.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD50 → Dino Might

This game is a bit too hard for me >.> I never got to the point where I could place a turret, so I don't know how that works. Does the music generate on start, or is it something you generated and then put in? It seemed like the same every time I played. I felt that it took too much time for the waves to reach Earth, and that going out to meet the asteroids was a mistake, so I ended up waiting a lot in this. The fact that there's a prepare stage before the first wave is particularly frustrating with this, because you can't really do anything. As with the other comment, I found it strange that you launched missiles only in one direction, though that they homed kindof alleviated that. I did find that you could stack missiles up on Earth, but I was sad they didn't shoot off towards an asteroid if it got near. (That's really a bug, anyway, but it would have helped me!)
@vaincil That's part of the polish missing, the missile are homing as long as you fire them "in range" to your targeting sensors, but there is no visual or audio feedback to let you know that :O Firing blindly just fire them straight to the right.
@incobalt You should be able to place a turret right from the start, they only cost 10 dinobucks :) The music was generate by Wolfram Tones, I applied some reverb, phaser and made them much slower (and the menu music is actually reversed too). Going out chasing asteroids is viable from the start (using the "boost" button to go much faster), especially if you place at least a turret to cover the opposite side where you're going. Lol @that stacking of missiles, it's 100% un-intentionnal, I guess I forgot to actually implement the "autodestruct after X seconds" on them
For the first time ever I think I'll actually work to polish this game in the coming weeks to make a proper post-jam, actually funny version. I'll ping everyone leaving a comment here once it's done :)
Thanks for the feedback ;)
Interesting concept! It was definitely difficult, but I enjoyed flying around and the pixel art was great. Thanks for sharing!
controls a little strange for me but have potential, nice graphics and mood
Nice game. I didn't survive very long, but I start to get the hang of it. Took a while before enemies started to arrive.
Pretty fun game! I like that you added some story to it as well. I survived the first couple waves without issue and had some fun. At that point though, I tried to figure out how to change direction (using a 360 controller) and discovered that the y face button ends your game without confirmation. I had checked the controls at the beginning, but nothing was listed. So that was a little upsetting.

(Warning: this section is a little pedantic)
Just a heads up, I'm not sure it's allowed within Wolfram Alpha's license terms to use their music in games. I've seen a github post saying the compositions are cc0, but I've never been able to find proof. [Their license page](https://www.wolfram.com/legal/terms/wolfram-tones.html) however says:

You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer or sell any information or content obtained from this Site. I didn't mark you down for this, just wanted to mention so you don't get in trouble! Especially if you expand this past the compo.
ps: If I'm wrong please let me know! I have had a few projects I wanted to use it for, but didn't feel I could

Pedantic warnings about licenses aside, thanks for a fun entry!
Echoing @cppchriscpp's thing about wolfram's annoying license. I was excited when it came out, but the license basically allows you to download and listen to it and almost nothing else. Maybe it's changed a little, since it seems like it can be noncommercial now, but they don't allow derivatives (for no good reason, honestly). I'd generally steer clear for safety's sake!
@cppchriscpp Just to be sure, were you trying to "change direction" because the missiles were always firing to the right when no asteroid were at range ? :D Your "pedantic" section is no pedantic at all ! What's funny is that I just started using Famistudio and Milkytracker and intended to actually spend some time making my own music and sounds for this jam. But yeah... One of the easiest thing thing to do to cut corners and have more time is make all the music using Wolfram Tones :D I 100% intend to make my own music for the next version, but I don't think I'll ever commercialize this game
Hmmm, just re-read the licence again. Removing the music right away, because apparently they're dicks ? I read it as "no modify/copy etc... for commercial use", but yeah, it's even worse than that...
@incobalt Yeah they don't even accept any diffusion of any kind, removing the music right away.
Yeah, you got it on why I tried to change direction. It just felt like I had to be missing something, though after reading the comments I clearly wasn't
And I don't think Wolfram Alpha would come after you for a ludum dare game, but if you ever tried to monetize it or get it out there past LD, it'd probably be a risk. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on that D:
Cute graphics! I feel like the leadup to the battles are a little long but I like the guided rockets. I wish there was a way to get a sense of which asteroids are closest. I started to try to go out to find the asteroids but died when the one I picked was much farther out than a close one that hit the earth.
