The different potion effects was a cool idea. I found the controls incredibly confusing, but figured them out eventually. Once I did it was an interesting, if fiddly, game.

I had fun playing this, each of the potions felt unique and usable and the solutions to the puzzels weren't too difficult to understand once I knew how to play. Good game

I agree with the other comments, the game is quite interesting and has a cool idea. However, I got a bit confused with the controls 😅 maybe adding a readme file with the controls, or adding them to the game page might help future players 🙂

Thanks @delta-key for the suggestion! I think I will add a readme to the game and make a note in my install instructions. Cheers to everyone who has played it so far!

Liked the idea and the graphics were delightful. As others have said, having the controls explained outside the same would have been pretty helpful because I missed some of the information in-game. Great work!

The idea sounds actually really good also I also agree with other comments... even with the readme figuring out what exactly todo and what you can do is kind of try and error. Nevertheless a cool idea with a lot of room for complicated puzzles

Fun game, it opened my VR though when I would play it! I like the platforming concepts and how you mix them, although the combinations seem hard to wrap my head around. Nice idea though.

sakura-magika 2021-10-09 23:24

i like the concept, but i found it pretty easy to get stuck, and also to glitch my way past a lot of the blocks in an unintended way. if i jumped at the blocks, i could stick to the edges and getup around them.

also, the platform colliders seem to be solid blocks, which made it impossible to back track because my head would bonk into them, which was pretty frustrating.

it seems like the blue plants are supposed to be exploding, so you launch yourself over the spike pits? i wasn't able to get it to work in the end, the physics was rather unpredictable.

it was pretty difficult to read the on-screen instructions, and while the readme was helpful, i don't like needing to read about how to play a game outside of the game itself.

also, it seems like using potions is disabled when in potion crafting mode, but the sound effects still played, which was confusing. the sound effects also seemed to play even if i didn't have enough potion to actually do a spray/lob, so that was confusing as well.

i think there needs to be a much more clear visual distinction between crafting mode and playing mode. personally, i'd bring up a menu screen for crafting that has instructions always visible in it.

@prismapunch Sorry that it opened your VR! I'm pretty new to Unreal Engine, so there must be something in my code somewhere that accidentally activated it. Glad you liked the game even though the combinations are tricky.

Cheers!

Hey! Cool experience but difficult for me to figure out exactly what I should be doing. Still thanks for submitting!

shadowyxp-games 2021-10-09 23:29

@sakura-magika thanks for the detailed feedback! This was my second game made using unreal engine, and during the jam I found out that the physics I had made were framerate dependant, which was a huge mistake. I never realized that the wall tiles were able to be jumped up! That's really funny and concerning at the same time.

You had the right idea about launching yourself over the spikes, sorry about the physics, and have a great day!

I like the idea that you can use potions as a way to overcome platforming challenges. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to figure out what to do exactly and the game crashed sometimes, but I still enjoyed playing it and I also like the art.

Interesting mechanic, although the scope might have been too large for this jam. The game was held back greatly by clunkiness, frustration, and overall confusion.
