Hey, you are missing some download links :x
Yeah, need a download link or something
Thanks @tescoone and @mduo13 - hit some technical snags at the deadline with this posting, and couldn't change/remove the game post entry. Was able to fix things though, and changed it over to the LD Jam instead of Compo since I missed the deadline.
Missing your links bud
Doesn't work with 16:10 aspect, can't see half the map. Or there's just invisible wall where you meant to go. Can't play it either way.
@spaint Appreciate you giving it a try and for the feedback- I would love more info to improve the experience/my approach if you're up for sharing or providing a screenshot. I tried to replicate what you stated, but I can't find any issues on any aspect ratio. My best guess is either you managed to go too far left, past obstacles I put in the way for that direction, instead of down.. or you were still at the main menu, and didn't click the 'begin your journey" button? (And in both those cases it's a good lesson for me to do a better job at how I present and do level design/'guide the player'/etc.)
@redhermit I'll get you a screenshot later, but point is i was just watching unicorn falling down the first time thinking it was a cutscene or something. Later i restarted and saw that there's a man on the edge of the map. Some restarts were wasted trying to get the controls, but i managed. I can't go left because of invisible wall and i can't go right, because my screen is over, i can kinda see dropdown starting but can't navigate it offscreen.
It's fixed! Thanks for the additional information @spaint - it pointed me in the correct direction. The main menu/start screen GUI and Buttons to start the game weren't scaling properly it seems- it works in simulation, but I tried an actual 16:9 screen and saw the issue. Should be resolved now in the download.
@redhermit It works now, thanks. Nice idea with physics hooman dismemberment, damage sound was pretty funny too. Sadly lacks better level design and more mechanics, i almost always could just drop down ignoring everything. Death mechanics is pretty obscure to me too, i lost all of my body parts and still lived and then just died after something. Lost body parts can also affect gameplay somehow, that would be fun. After polish can become a fun physics arcade, good job.
Well, this one was disturbing. The title screen suggested similarities to your previous LD game, Cursorial, but this one turned out to be WAY different. The only gameplay-related suggestion I have is to make checkpoints more distinct, now they look like danger and I even tried to avoid it for some time. Audio is top notch, but there's something unsettling with visuals. Maybe if main character weren't so bright and cheerful it would look better.
Yes, this is stirring some emotions, but i can't quite place them. (which is what games are supposed to do, make us feel stuff). And I'd love to take a peek at the animation code:) Top audio, Top mood. Good job!
@spaint Thanks for taking the time to give it another try, even after the initial frustrations! Agreed on level design, lack of mechanics, polish, etc.. I spent like 70% of my time figuring out how to make an active ragdoll.. much harder than I thought it would be, so the rest ended up rushed (need to learn to better schedule my time and scope, as always, from LD events ;) -- again, my thanks for your help, and feedback from the playthrough.
@yngvarr Yeah, I went in a very odd direction with this game.. I was disturbed too. Agreed on the checkpoints, I worried they may be considered dangerous.. first iteration of them was kind of like a dark souls bonfire.. with more red, and I thought 'this looks way too dangerous', and tweaked the particles/colors.. but not enough obviously, and with it lacking polish and tutorial, etc.. definitely need to better present to my audience mechanics- Yes, color/look/post processing needs work too, I tried to change the game to the Universal Render Pipeline so I can better work with lighting in the 2D space, and match things up, but failed- didn't have enough time to make it happen for the deadline, and reverted back to the basics. -- Appreciate you playing and the honest feedback, all great tips to take into account in my work!
@enderr42 Appreciate you playing- I'll post the animation info on Discord for you, it's a weird hacky combination of a skeleton rig with physics, a few basic animation timelines, and 'balancing' scripts on various bones to keep them 'upright', but various triggers in the level to disable the balance scripts for full on ragdoll..
Wow. This game was SO funny. My boys thought this was one of the funniest things they've ever seen. We did manage to get a couple of checkpoints after ripping our bodies apart a lot. xD Really really neat job here!
THIS WAS HILARIOUS
First time I saw the Character, the game was a 5 of 5 for me. I loved the loosing of body parts, the mood and the goal of the Game. I was initialy pretty confused because the Jump Button didn't worked at first, but after it worked it went well.
Its a bit of a struggle when you fall because you fall soo fast and have not good air control but I asume that it worked as intended.
SO Overall, great Job and Well Done. Really Awesome.
