Nice game! A fun variant from the classic "dig to find ores". I really like all the animals you collected jumping at the spawn XD. Might need a bit of tweaking: the camera has a hard time following the player when you move fast and you often get stuck while trying to jump.
I think the pig didn't want to get out of the ground. Now she won't let me go D:
Bro, why are ducks stuck underground :D?
A very fresh idea for the theme, simple but fun. I liked the graphics and the music, the mood in general. I also found the whole thing kind of hilarious if you think about it for a second. Great effort for a 1-man project.
The only thing that felt off a little bit was the physics / character controller. It was getting stuck on the wall, so you will need to play around a little bit with the RigidBody2D component to get it right.
Super cute animals! It would be great if you could put the control keys in somewhere as it took me a while to figure out what buttons did what, but great idea overall! :D
Nice game, was fun to play. The music is a little repetitive but i didn't mind it that much.
Cute game :)
I like the shader used at the edges of the screen !
Player control is a little frustating, it collides too often with blocks during a jump. But I really enjoy the Minecraft like gameplay, I love contructing a tower by jumping and putting blocks below me ^^
Well done !
Hi, first of all, congratulations on submitting a game for LD! This is a huge achievement on itself. I think you have a nice idea of a game and a cool concept. You need to work to refine and polish it. I'd work on improving the controls: the horizontal movement has too much acceleration (you don't need it), the jumps do not feel good and the player gets stuck into walls (work on the collisions). After you've improved that, you can work towards having more stuff to do. If you commit to it and keep working on it you will have a great game! Keep it up!
Funny concept, and nice twist on the common digging gameplay! I liked the small dirt particles that are created when you mine a block, and the way the animals jump when you bring them back. It seems like you are handling the movement of the character by applying forces to the rigidbody, but for an arcade-style game like this, it will probably look and feel better if you just directly modify the velocity of the rigidbody when you move. There's also a Unity component you can use to easily get rid of the friction on the sides of blocks: https://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/class-PlatformEffector2D.html
I aspire to be a farmer that can dig with my nose.
This game is well made - I like the colours, and the minecraft blocky feel suits the digging to find animals concept pretty well. The pleasant piano music made me think that the game was perhaps influenced by Minecraft, and I think it works overall.
I found myself fiddling a lot with the controls, especially since I found myself wanting to press the W key to jump more than the spacebar. In a game like this where the puzzle is just finding the animals, I didn't mind it too much, but it would have made getting out a lot more intuitive. I would have liked to see more feedback from the game as to when you collect an animal - maybe a sound or a change of expression in the animal sprite or farmer, just something so the player has that visual feedback, the same way they get that satisfaction when putting animals back on the farm.
When collecting animal directly below me, I would "ride" the animal back up to the surface and the animal would bounce slightly underground upon going back to the farm. It also seemed very easy to get stuck on the sides of the blocks on the way up, though it did make for a fun "dash" ride through the ground using the pickaxe.
Overall, it was a good entry, with a lot of cute animals (especially when they're one on top of the other; I thought one of the farm animals was some chicken-mouse hybrid when it was actually just a cat and a chicken on top of each other).
Fun game.
I did have a problem with the controls. I'm reasonably sure it was all related to the fact that you stick to walls if you are moving towards them. This makes jumping up flights of stairs very hard as you have to be constantly swapping between the move and jump keys rather than just holding the move key and pressing jump at the right times.
I think it could also do with some way of knowing when you have finished rather than having to ensure you have checked everywhere and even then it just leaving you there with no finish to the game.
