Nice arts and a cool loop !

dobrila 2020-10-05 23:56

Loved the arts and the idea. Sound is awesome ! I would maybe make the attacking a bit faster ..

sparrow-lynn 2020-10-06 00:11

I just played this for like an hour. That was some fun loopin!

dangerousfat 2020-10-06 00:32

@dobrila It may not be obvious, we didn't point it out, but there's a pause, play, and fast forward button in the bottom right hand corner that really speeds things up.

Thanks for rating and playing!

kromeboy 2020-10-06 07:35

Played a couple of run til i was able to complete the loop of all fight. Does it has an ens?

dangerousfat 2020-10-06 09:12

@kromeboy No, it just keeps looping and the enemies keep getting harder. Since the theme was "stuck in a loop" we figured it was more fitting to just keep the loop going forever.

Thanks for playing our game!

This has been sooo fun to play, this type of games are addictive lol nice loop

tennotako 2020-10-07 01:42

very nice sprites !! good game. well done !

tori 2020-10-07 20:39

I love the art style ! make me very nostalgic :) this is too addictive for me tho (but in a good way) i think it's well balanced, which is hard to do with those type of game, great work !

gizmolo 2020-10-07 21:19

Awesome game! Could easily seen this being turned into a mobile game of some kind. Played for over an hour, no doubt the most time I've ever spent playing a game jam game haha! The only thing I'd say is it'd be nice if there was a lose state and different levels / variations of waves. Maybe you could make it where each level you have a certain number of total "adventures" you can attempt, and a certain number of wave completions it takes to beat the level. So maybe this first level you get 10 attempts, and then you have to go through and beat the wave 3 times. THEN for the next level you start fresh with your adventurers. At some point I had all the money I needed and all the adventurers I needed that it got boring. Oh well, fun game nonetheless!

dangerousfat 2020-10-07 21:31

@gizmolo Thanks for the great feedback! We had a ton of additional ideas on how to spend gold and add more variation to the waves, etc. Unfortunately, jams being what they are, we ran out of time.

Thanks for playing and rating our game though! Much appreciated!

ismael-rodriguez 2020-10-07 22:46

Hard for me to speak on this as it's not really my cup of tea. I guess I would like to progress quicker, let me fill out the party right away rather than needing to watch the game run for x minutes. Show me the oncoming wave of enemies and let me try to pick against it? (kinda like plants v zombies)

archimagus 2020-10-08 01:04

Thanks for the feedback @ismael-rodriguez Completely understandable, it's certainly not the kind of game that would appeal to everyone. We did want to add things for you to do during the battle, like user activatable abilities but as like most game jams, we ran out of time. We also wanted to have more choices for characters and for what abilities they have.

gizmolo 2020-10-08 04:35

party.PNGI continued playing after my workout tonight lol. Here was my party. Was never able to get more than 3 waves completed. Hermit dude and his 3 big boars always popped my fighter in wave 4. MAYBE 4 waves is possible if fighter was lvl 11, but damn y'all made leveling rough haha. Not about to grind to 11. So addicting! I hope y'all flesh out the idea and have a full mobile release! (Anyone get more gold than me? lol)

archimagus 2020-10-08 05:02

@gizmolo That's awesome dude. Yeah, we never got that far in testing, if we do make a full mobile version we'll make sure leveling is a little better and make sure you can get past more waves.

There is an android build on the game page now if you want it on mobile. I want to get game saving in so that you can progress after shutting the game down.

dangerousfat 2020-10-08 05:02

@gizmolo Man you are a trooper! You're right that fight right before the Troll is super rough and unfortunately it's just a little luck to get through it. Both your wizards are 1 level away from getting another shot to their magic missile though and I bet that'll help. We've been talking about developing it further after the jam and appreciate all the feedback we're getting! I'm so glad you're enjoying it!

archimagus 2020-10-09 03:09

@gizmolo Just to let you know, I posted a version for all the platforms except WebGL that save your progress when you quit so you don't have to start over every time.

gizmolo 2020-10-09 16:57

@archimagus perfect! thanks for the update :)

eugenik 2020-10-09 18:13

Played it, loved it. 5 stars

peachtreeoath 2020-10-11 22:03

Nice work, I'm always down to play games like this :) Did you have a particular game you modeled it off of? I know there's quite a few with this sort of layout, but Almost a Hero is the one I've played the most in this format.

What I liked about your game is that it's more straight to the point than some idle RPGs. I know this is probably due to the jam time limit, but this version really focuses on raw numbers going up and quick playthroughs rather than a huge emphasis on strategies and counters. So there's more emphasis on power/progression and also the feeling of being stuck in a loop.

Tbh I expected more incremental games when I first saw the theme. There's actually been very very few so I'm glad you gave me a change of pace. Addicting game - great job on the design decisions you made!

Sidenote: I also noticed you have dark/cthulu-esque theming in a lot of your games, doesn't seem like a coincidence anymore ;)

archimagus 2020-10-11 22:38

@peachtreeoath Thanks for the comment. I haven't played Almost a Hero, but when I started talking about this sort of game as an idea, the other guy on the team suggested that game as an idea to look at. So it is, the slightest bit modeled after that as I did go look at a few screen shots and one video. I wanted to have our characters walking along a path and encountering the monsters, but we didn't get to that.

We wanted to have a lot more for the player to do in the game rather than just sit and watch once you've filled out your team, but you know how jams go.

As to the dark themes. Yeah, we made "Little House of Horrors" and it did quite well (still gets played about 20 times a month actually) so we've done the eldrich horror things a few more times as that theme seems quite popular.

firellon 2020-10-12 20:28

Quite well polished and drawn idle game, I bet it would go really well on a mobile! I guess more abilities and also some big underlying story that would give some big purpose to the whole looping would make the game even better :)

dangerousfat 2020-10-13 01:26

@firellon That's the plan! Thanks for the praise and thanks for playing our game!

tauheed-game-dev 2020-10-16 13:46
